Un Homme et Une Femme (France, 1966)
Nov. 9th, 2011 06:29 pmI am in the mood to rewatch one of my favorite movies, the French Un Homme et Une Femme (A Man and a Woman), one of my favorite movies of all time. The movie's two protagonists are both widowers, and the movie follows them as they navigate both their sense of loss and their growing relationship.
Here is a MV which uses the movie's famous theme song and is a good look at the type of movie it is:
I have first discovered this movie as a child - it was (and still is) one of my mother and father's favorite movies. When I was a kid, I admit I found it slow and meandering. Now that I am a grown-up who's in a relationship, this movie has become one of my favorites - it's both one of the most romantic and most realistic movies I've seen.
So, yeah, this is pretty much an oblique push. Check it out! If you care about this sort of stuff, I believe it won both Best Foreign Picture and Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars that year.
