dangermousieI am three eps into Relics of an Emissary and it's such fun!
I spent most of the first ep wanting to massacre the protagonist, who is basically the ancient equivalent of a police captain. He is hated by his subordinates and his targets alike, and his methods of questioning witnesses freak out even the other guards. If he had a conscience, it got lost somewhere a long time, submerged in brutality, ruthlessness, bribe-taking, lechery and other good things. Luckily for us all, at the end of ep 1, there is a big explosion on the boat he is on and, while he is the sole survivor, he loses his memory and somehow acquires an awesome personality. He is still an amazing fighter and good at crime-solving, he is also (probably for the first time in his life) not a bastard. In fact, he is kinda righteous. Someone should have whacked him a long time ago.
Throw in palace coup, a gorgeous eunuch (seriously, such a waste!), a scheming royal or two, a feisty princess with a fondness for cross-dressing and loathing of the hero, and the mystery what exactly happened on that boat, and we are set for a fun fun ride!
That is how the good captain interrogates witnesses.
When one wakes up without knowing one's identity, what does one do?

Anyway, somehow amnesia = becoming human being, here.
It doesn't hurt that he gets to feel what it's like to get on the wrong side of the law.
Awesome feisty princess who cross-dresses occasionally. :P He saves her in a street fight and has no idea why she hates his guts. Ummmm, because you were a psycho before?
Remember the girl he 'interrogated' (I use the term loosely). Her whole family got killed as a result of that investigation and his new self lets her stab him in penance and tells her she can kill him any time she wants but he wants to bring the bodies back first. Seriously, why did nobody whack him on the head earlier?
Anyway, great fun!
