It was nice though not mindblowing.

However, three (unspoilery) observations is all I feel like writing:

1. Seeing Ben Affleck get killed over and over again? Sheer genius. I might even rent it.

2. Ben Affleck should lose 20 lbs and donate them to Adrian Brody (who is really hot and SHIRTLESS btw but seriously needs a sandwich).

3. At last, a movie in which Adrian Brody does not play mentally retarded, continuously tortured, or horrendously abused. Yes. Miracles are possible.

Trailers were really good too (best thing about seeing movies in the fall? Trailers don't suck). I was especially taken with The Departed, even though I am really ambivalent about Infernal Affairs remake by anyone, even Scorcese. But still, am amused by the fact that here is Affleck, playing a secondary lead in a relatively obscure flick, and here's Matt Damon playing a lead in a Scorcese film. I am all for it. The trailer for Flags of Our Fathers looked interesting too (if a bit too on the sappy side). Ryan Phillipe can come and plant flags in my backyard any time.

Also, met up with [livejournal.com profile] klmorgan and it was a lot of fun! Though I am afraid I will get sucked into even more manga! :)

I absolutely refuse to see The Departed entirely on principle. I don't care if people say it's good, it will never be as good as Infernal Affairs. Leonardo DiCaprio's Boston Irish accent is not a good enough substitute for Andy Lau and Tony Leung staring each other down on the roof of a Hong Kong skyscaper with the entire panorama of Hong Kong Harbor in the background. Even the presence of Marky Mark (yeah, yeah, "Mark Wahlberg", you'll always be Marky to me!) is not going to convince me to see this film. I maintain that I would see this movie if I could be convinced as to whether Damon/DiCaprio could take Lau/Leung in a fight. And no, they cannot. Tony and Andy would kick their collective pansyboy Hollywood asses. Also, Tony Leung speaks perfect English, with the slightest hint of a British accent OMG, why is he not famous in America yet? And dude, I can say the same for Takeshi, who I (and my mother) love with an undying passion, as he is capable of confessing his deep affection for me in three Chinese dialects, Japanese, and English.

Wow, this was supposed to be a very brief statement on my intense loathing for The Departed, but, um, I got kind of sidetracked. But you know that I do this often. ;)

The thing is, I love Scorcese and I like the cast, but why why WHY remake such a classic? ARGH.
