Seeking jdrama recs

dangermousieSo, I have been experiencing a craving to watch some jdramas - I haven't really watched one since early 2010 when both Sunao ni Narenakute and Tsuki no Koibite exploded in such horrifying messes.
Jdramas and I have a somewhat complicated relationship - when they work for me, they really leave me breathless, the problem is the most of them do not work for me at all. Your average random kdrama I will probably enjoy OK, your average random jdrama will make me turn it off after 15 minutes.
The problem is this: the only kind of drama I hate more than a school or office story is a detective serial and between those three, that is basically 90% of current jdramas (I much prefer older jdramas - they come across as both more naturalistic and mature). It doesn't help that the jdramas fandom likes to talk about and sub are usually in one of those three genres so even if there is the most awesome low-key period romance out there, I probably won't hear of it or have subs.
There is also the shallow fact that I find jdrama actors less hot than their Korean, Taiwanese or Chinese counterparts - jdramas tend to staff their dramas with scrawny, barely legal idols and it's not my thing (I love dramas with older guys - Takenouchi Yutaka comes to mind - but they seem to be a minority of subbed ones, at least).
Anyway. But when the jdramas work for me, they really work, and I miss watching them. So some recs? For reference purposes, here is my favorite jdrama list:
1. Love Shuffle
2. Aishiteiru to Ittekure
3. Pride
4. Itoshi Kimi E
5. Hana Yori Dango 1/2
6. Tatta Hitotsu No Koi
7. Forbidden Love
8. Utahime
9. Sapuri
10. God Give Me More Time

So, recs? For the record, I hated Hana Kimi, Long Vacation, Love Generation and Absolute Boyfriend (to use some popular new and old examples)
