Of hard-drives and hot boys
Sep. 19th, 2006 01:23 pmI've finally caved in and purchased an external 400Gb drive. That should last me a while :) Now I can dl to my heart's content. Once it gets here, that is.
I've also been rewatching bits of Hana Yori Dango jdrama due to jetlag and a faint nostaligia for my vacation, and OMG, so good, as always.
I have decided that even though I don't ship him with Makino at all, I really adore Rui in this version. He ends up thawing and being so sweetly protective. EEEEE! I am a sucker for male-female platonic friendships in fiction because they occur so very rarely. The bit where he quotes her own words at Makino to get her to go after Domyouji is adorable. And I still love love love Shizuka coming back to him. I am a hopeless romantic, sorry.
Also, the scene of Domyouji running to Makino's rescue is cracktastic and fabulous and cool. Especially since he is still clutching her scarf in one hand (he was about to throw it away when bad guys called), and the whole thing is rather medieval in a 'lady's standard' kinda way (just as I love in Mars when Ling before going to a race tells QL he wants something of hers as a keepsake, anything as long as it's hers, and she ties her ribbon around his wrist. SWOOOON).
I have to say that combining the girl Makino helped AND Sakurako AND Junpei (who was a guy!) into one person is kinda an overkill (here is where time compression hurts HYD). I mean, Sakurako was never a viable romantic rival of course and her frame-up with the pictures was nasty (her later 'fine, you can have him but if anybody else tries to get him, I'll fight them tooth and nail and nab him for self' thing is hilarious), but it's a huge order of magnitude difference between this and her beatdown of Domyouji via goons, so considering she had him beaten within an inch of his life here (because she was in a Junpei hat as well), her later inclusion into the story just is odd...Also, Junpei had a legit grudge (however wrong the means he chose to carry it out. I like that the story doesn't gloss that Domyouji can be quite a bastard) but here, Sakurako's pissed-offedness is way disproportionate to the stimulus.
Also, the actress cackles in glee which is odd. But who cares, because the rest of the scene is so good. SO GOOD. How even when being totally beaten down, he is ignoring everything to concentrate on Makino. And how he tells her to close her eyes, so gently. AWWWWW! And I love how he ignores Sakurako's ranting to fixate on Makino's scarf and trying to reach for it. And then later, when Makino asks him 'why' (he came that is) he looks at her like she is a dummy and goes 'Isn't it obvious? I love you.' OMG OMG OMG. Guys who are that straightforward are HOT. Why it takes her a number more eps to finally make up her mind is...inexplicable :)
I also love at the end of the show, when he tells her on the phone she was number one (at the contest). And I love that he is going to go away, because that way he can protect her (I love how his mom realizes this is one bet he will definitely take). And then he makes X-mas date plans because I think it makes him feel good to pretend he could actually go. And then sends Rui to deliver the message about his going away.
The end is sweet too (her running next to the plane is cheesetastic but so good). And I love that even though he tells her she is in love with him, when she responds 'I AM in love with you' he looks so taken aback and so startled and so...guuuuuuh, as whatever he said, he didn't really believe it before. And then there is kissing! I can't wait until Hana Yori Dango 2.
I have also continued my watch of It Started with a Kiss. I was up to ep 6 before, but then hurricane Love Storm happened and I put it aside. Because I am more awake now and because I can watch at whatever pace I like now, and not try to cram everything into two days, my enjoyment is HUGE. I love it. So funny and cute. Zhi Shu is totally attractive (half the time he cracks me up and the other half I want to smack him) but I really really adore Ariel Lin in this. When she practices tennis in her room, it's hilarious. It's funny because ZS tries to act so disinterested but he gives her tennis advice and when she gets hit you can totally see him freak out and he can't help but go over and see how she is.
I do wish he'd have to work for HER at some point though. And I want some angst. But ISWAK is adorableness itself.

Date: 2006-09-20 01:36 am (UTC)Re: Shin. But the boy bawled his eyes out on her shoulder. And kissed her in public. Which was AWWWW. I think Shin is reserved by nature though so he'd never be exuberant...

Date: 2006-09-20 01:40 am (UTC)RE: Yes.. but I mean he still seemed to keep his mean manner. Yes, he lowes her, but he is wierd in doing that. And he holds a grudge like a B. :\ It frustrated me so badly how he handled things.. all the way to the very end.

Date: 2006-09-20 03:52 am (UTC)IS THERE GOING TO BE A SEQUEL?!?! AAAAAAH!
*celebrates*
I have all your Japan-entries bookmarked to read later, when I'm not hamstrung with seething jealousy. ;)
Also, don't worry. You know I'm with you on the one-sided relationship thing, and ISWAK warms up pretty quickly. It's done beautifully -- so that the viewer knows he's in madlove with her and all twisted about it, but she has no idea.
