I continue to be unhealthily obsessed with Ma Jun/Yu Kyung. The only ship type I love more than "he puts her on a pedestal and worships the ground she walks on" (e.g. Min Woo/Miju or most revenge dramas) is the "they are so dysfunctional beyond words" one.

I continue to think that regardless of what will and won't happen with Ma Jun (I am spoiled about the end btw if not about the rest of it), not being with Tak Gu is for the best with Yu Kyung. As her scenes with Ma Jun indicate she is so very damaged and full of darkness (no sweetheart could keep up with Ma Jun yet whatever games Ma Jun wants to play, she can play even harder and Ma Jun is the ultimate Mr Screwed Up). She is very broken inside and the way to heal is to actually to admit you are and work from there. But she could never show all of that to Tak Gu who holds her on such a pedestal and who would never get it, being so lovely and darling himself. In her case, she is actually better being with someone she doesn't idealize so or even someone whose good opinion she craves (and Ma Jun can only really work with someone messed-up. Any sweet-natured normal girl would either run screaming or just not get it). Not saying any relationship with Ma Jun would be any healthier - they need to work a heck of a lot to get from where I am (ep 13) to anything remotely workable and psychically unscarring. But these are a different set of problems. They are a little too alike - both damaged in different but severe ways by their insane parents.
Anyway, this is a verbose prelude to caps of MOST AWESOME MESSED-UP KISS EVER.
She's been told she is three months behind on rent and who is there to overhear it but her least favorite person. So he asks her for a drink and she agrees.

Chemistry (btw I like how it's subtly shown she is not comfortable in the very expensive bar).

Their conversations are always sharp enough to cut. This time she is the one who starts though. And then they keep one-upping each other, as if seeing who will blink or show weakness first - at first MJ is really taken aback but there is no way he will give up - if she pushes, he will push back. She is trying to push his buttons as much as she can by denying anything real in his feelings and forcing him to either admit he genuinely likes her or is desperate enough to need a whore, and either way is desperate enough to want a woman who won't love him - either one a humiliating prospect for Ma Jun. In a way, by refusing to see anything good or sincere in Ma Jun it's sort of a weird confirmation for Ma Jun of his own view of himself - MJ clearly knows his own darkness but nobody else seems to treat him appropriately - being either idealistic (TG), doting and self-obsessed (Mom) or indifferent (Dad). In an odd way, YK is the only one who takes MJ at his own evaluation and by pushing it forces MJ to confront whether he really as bad as YK thinks he is or he himself believes, or not. Am I making any sense?). Of course, it doesn't help that she is feeling horribly humiliated by his mother.
YK: So what are you going to do for me first? Clothes first, or money first? Or are you going to pay my rent immediately? What can you do for me first?
MJ: What you...
YK: You said you'll do everything for me. That's what you said.
MJ: That depends on how you start. If you start with a kiss, or if you start with a hot first night.
YK: Is that what it takes? Kissing you, and spending a night with you? I can become your woman with just that? It's easier than I thought. Okay, sounds great.
MJ: What?
YK: A kiss, a night together,\NI can give you all that. Instead, for me to like you or to look only at you, don't expect any of that. Don't even think about interfering with who I keep in my heart, or who I long for. If you start acting that way, it'll get tiresome. What do you want to do? What should we start with? A kiss? Or...
MJ: You...You're less fun than I thought.
But clearly the round goes to YK as MJ walks off after YK basically tells him she'd rather be his whore than give him any emotional attachment. See a therapist, people.

And then he comes back and kisses her. REALLY kisses her.

And she hits him with all her strength.

And he tells her he knew she was going to do that. He knew she was bluffing about her offer and she should try to be less boring. Yes yes, good luck convincing yourself you kissed her to prove a point, boy.

Gee, imagine, she walks off after that! Shocking.

Have a bonus Tak Gu and Mi Sun.

Would my flisties run away if I admit that Ma Jun is my favorite character and Yu Kyung my second favorite. It's as if, whatever BK is doing around them, they are doing their own version of Something Happened in Bali at all times. MMMMMMMMMMMMM.
