dangermousieOK, I was going to do a nice coherent post once I finished Goong ep 22 and not post in the middle, but I am sorry.
I AM GOING TO KILL SHIN'S FATHER.
OK. Somehow, it's Shin's fault that Yul has feelings for CG? HOW? Does the King's logic not follow our Earth logic? Is he from another universe where logic does not resemble ours? (And let's not mention the fact that he himself was last generation's Yul). But OMG. The King is being an utter bastard and blah blah blah blah and all Shin says is to ask to please not hold Yul's feelings against CG. Whoa.
GRRRR. Horrible King fahter person. I am so mad I can spit nails. It's a pity he is fictional because he deserves a thrashing.
Let's not get into the whole 'you are my son but I am going to treat you as if you are dirt and on purpose prefer Yul in front of you. All that approval and care I deny you I am going to give him' thing King has going. OK, when your son has tears in his eyes and is not even asking but stating it as a fact to his household retainer something to the effect of 'my father loved Yul's mother so that is why he prefers Yul' there is something wrong with you as a parent. And you know what pisses me off? When CG does her penance protocol thingy, she asks forgiveness for Shin as well as herself and she tells the King how much Shin both loves and fears him and the King's response? I don't hate him but I have to point out when he is wrong. BURN. BURN.
Among people who also should burn is Yul. Um. The girl is suffering this penance thingy to protect you and it takes you a long time to speak up. And when you do, you are unrepentant and you also break Shin's heart and generally I don't like you. Booooo!
I feel horrible for CG. She can't tell Shin about being sorry so she pours her heart out to that cloth dummy to which she glued his face and is crying (I love how it's intercut with images of Shin sitting in his room watching the photos he took of her). And she tries to do the penance thing and gets sick. OMG, when Yul comes to take her back and she thinks it's Shin for a second...eeeeek! Evil TPTB giving me all that angst!
But no one is having quite as horrible a time of it as Shin. In addition to his horrible father, the girl he loved just asked for divorce after he expressed his feelings (OMG, he has tears in his eyes when he tells her that). He is freaking out about CG but can't and won't show it (I love when his servant points out that he's been staring at the same page for hours and he later goes and checks up on her when she won't see). And then he has to hear Yul confess his love of CG to everyone (thus bringing back and implying the fact that CG likes Yul back). That scene where Shin walks out after Yul declares his feelings and he is standing in the hallway, leaning and looking so unbearably depressed and seeing himself as a child is just heart-breaking. And then he is waiting outside CG's penance room and Yul leads her out and she stumbles and he reaches out to steady her and he is all 'are you alright?' and she tells him she didn't ask for his help and asks Yul to escort her. OMG. His face.
I love the scene where he walks into her room as she is sleeping and reaches out to touch her face and he really really wants to and then just pulls back his hands. His life really sucks.
ETA: OMG. He tells her he didn't come for her (during the penance thingy) because whenever he thought of her and Yul plotting to betray him (with the TV thingy) and do all that, he'd get physically ill. And then he adds 'I am going to make you live here with me for the rest of your life. That's the price you'll pay for betraying and hurting me.'
OK, there is something wrong with me, but I am finding him uber-hot there? It's all the intensity and the quiet controlled anger and the angst. I'd be all 'OK, can I start my penance right now? Should I take my clothes off here or in the bedroom?'
ETA 2: OMG. And now he is sitting in the attic, wearing the tennis shoes she made him and talking to his 'alter ego' bear 'Please don't cry. It's embarassing.' EEEEE!
ETA 3: And she is going to be deposed! And she tells Shin she is still glad she liked him once she came into the Palace. And walks off. And he is crying and then the Yul/CG scene broke my heart. Because she tells him she won't see him once she leaves the Palace because she can't keep him longing for her when she can't reciprocate and she says that Shin once told her that people like stars have a period of revolution, 25 million years and everyone will meet again in 25 million years. And she tells him 'Yul, if you meet me in 25 million years, run away. Don't even greet me.' And he asks 'why?' And she says 'because I will like Shin then too' and then he says 'I'll just wait for yu again then' and BAWL.
ETA 4: And now there is a fire and all Shin is thinking about is CG. EEEEE!!! I am going to have a heart-attack from this show.
ETA 5: THE HELL?????!!!!???!!! And now SHIN IS CHIEF SUSPECT IN THE ARSON? Because evil QM framed him! OMGNFW! Because they lured him there with a supposed text message from CG but of course there is no record. I am afraid I am yelling at the TV right now. Literally
ETA 6: And now no one will believe him. Except CG. And Shin is talking to Retainer and says that he always wanted to fly free but he gave it all up when he became Crown Prince but he started dreaming again when he met CG and he thought maybe I can fly if I am with her. And then he says he always wanted to put off the garment 'Crown Prince' but not this way. OK, is this even dorama trying to overcompensate in having no angst early on? Because that's sufficient, thank you.
ETA 7: SCREAMING HYPERVENTILATION OMG! CG finds Shin (who is freaking out so much he is literally on the verge of throwing up) and she hugs him from the back and he stops dead and she tells him she won't ask for divorce or anything. She was only able to breathe in the Palace because of him so she'll stay by his side. And he tells her he might not be a Crown Prince any more. And she matter-of-factly says 'I don't love you because you are Crown Prince, I love you because you are you.' And OMG. The look on his face and he goes 'what?' EEEEEEE!!!!!!!! And he tells her staying with her he might break her wings and she says it doesn't matter, as long as he asks her to stay. And he is quiet and she starts to walk off and he desperately says 'Stay by my side. Don't leave me alone' And then OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG there is kissing and it's real kissing and it's really hot and awkward and sweet and sexy. And then he is lying in the chaise and she is lying on top of him and they are both being really giddy and I am dead from the cute. AM DEAD DEAD DEAD DEAD. As I said KISSING. HOT KISSING. OMG.
ETA 8: Is this a frelling rollercoaster? I can't watch! And now the King says CG needs to be sent overseas for a time. As a punishment. By herself. And Shin is fighting against it but there is no budge. So he says he will take care of it. I can't watch. I can'tcan'tcan't. Eeeee. And the scene that follows is just guuuuuh. Tender!Shin just kills me!
ETA 9: EEEEEE! You have no idea how much love I have for the scene where Shin comes to see CG early in the morning after his interview. And she teasingly asks him why he came in this early and he pauses and quietly says 'I missed you. I can't even breathe when you aren't around.' And she has this beaming look on her face and asks him to repeat it and so he says 'I miss you. I miss you even when I am with you.' And OMG!SQUEE. They are so adorable (and don't even make me mention the hiccups scene or the fact that I love how reserved and quiet Shin is but he is so clearly happy and relaxed with CG. EEEEE!

Date: 2006-08-25 02:56 am (UTC)I've been loading up on all my doramas during the summer hiatus myself, what with BSG not coming back until October of all things. Another great korean drama to add to your watchlist (which looks an awful lot like mine--mine just keeps getting longer and longer these days, though!) is "My Girl". I just finished watching it a few weeks ago. It was on around the same time as "Goong" and I had heard fabulous things about it, but I was too busy keeping up with "Goong" and the subtitles as it was being released earlier this year.
Also, if you haven't already heard, there's going to be a second season of "Goong" coming out sometime next year, which is very exciting. :)

I had a feeling that you'd fangirl about it, because I recall you complaining about the lack of real kissing scenes in dorama's when I was lurking in your journal. Like, I loved the fact that they were making out, but I was surprised since, well, anyone having even the barest knowledge of asian culture would know that such a Hollywood-type scene isn't commmonplace. Plus it seemed a little out of place. But I COULDN'T TAKE MY EYES AWAY.

Date: 2006-08-25 05:17 am (UTC)I love Taiwanese doramas, so I'd rec 'Mars' (which is my favorite dorama by far). Meteor Garden is a great deal of fun too.
My favorite Japanese one (and it's angsty too) is 'Forbidden Love' 'Hana Yori Dango' is beyond delicious. I haven't seen 1 litre of tears but it's supposed to be angtolicious and is on my short-list.
There is a whole bunch of MVs for the ones I am planning to watch shortly, they are good as trailers. I am especially interested in 'Devil Beside You': http://dangermousie.livejournal.com/503563.html
'Silence' is my current fave and it's uber angsty but only first 4 out of 19 eps are subbed so far so I'd hold off on it (I have trailer for it with subs, broken in two parts, here: http://dangermousie.livejournal.com/482652.html#cutid3).
