Chuno - ramblings on ep 10
Feb. 4th, 2010 10:21 amJust reading the live recaps for ep 10 of Chuno brutalized me.
GAAAAAH GUUUUUUH and all sorts of mixed emotions.
So Keutnomi (I finally remembered his name) - Un Nyun's older brother - was Dae Gil's half-brother OMGWTF UGHWRONG. You know, his choosing to kill DG's family and burn the house down makes even more sense now - it wasn't just that he was protecting his younger sister, but if you think about it - the amount of rage he must have felt. DG's father has two sons - one with his noblewoman wife (i.e. DG) he gives everything to and he lives in luxury having opportunity to study for civil service, wear nice clothes etc. The other one he had with a slave woman so he has no problem making him a slave. Oh, that must have been unbearable for Keutnomi, no wonder he snapped.
Also - before you start thinking Chuno is an 'incest does it best' drama - Un Nyun and Dae Gil are not related, even if Keutnomi is half-brother to both of them - he shares a father with DG and a mother with UN.
And we finally find out what made DG's father decide to beat/sell UN - Dae Gil went and begged his permission to marry Un Nyun. That's romantic and brave but also, in 17th century Korea, utterly insane! I kept wondering why DG's family got so upset he had a slave gf, even if it was a gf he loved a lot - I am sure that happened often. But if he wanted to marry her - oh yes, that's another matter entirely. I am sure his Daddy wouldn't have cared if DG just slept with UN and got 12 kids with her (look at himself - he'd probably think it was adding to the property value and creating more slaves) but marry -- yeah.
And DG finds out Kuetnomi was his half-brother! And that Un Nyun married Tae Ha. My God. MY GOD. He is not going to be able to function. And Keutnomi kills himself on DG's dagger when DG is still shell-shocked. Ughughughugh. I mean, glad as I am DG did not kill him, this is a horrible outcome - DG gets all the blame for the death (from others) but no satisfaction of revenge (but I liked that he couldn't kill him, and he certainly couldn't have killed his half-brother and oh such a mess).
In other news, it's official. Tae Ha and his men (except for Chul Woong who clearly in a foundling) are made from the same tough, awesome, insane cloth. So Tae Ha asked the "traitor" to betray him so all the men get to be made slaves instead of executed and can save the Prince later? My God. MY GOD. (I keep saying this a lot but - )
Also, UN would be a great travel companion - when TH is wounded she treats him, she makes no fuss about blood or danger, when she knows she is slowing him down, she tells him to run ahead etc. She is a perfect mate for Tae Ha. AND HE LEFT HIS SWORD WITH HER WHICH MEANS HIS PLEDGE TO COME BACK OMG OMG OMG. And she holds it and flashes back to their moments together. The girl is IN LOVE. Officially in love. AND THERE IS KISSING WHEN HE COMES BACK KISSING KISSING KISSING KISSING.
You know, I am so bipolar about this. Because on one hand, I am so happy for Tae Ha - he is such an amazing, selfless man and he deserves love and happiness. And UN deserves to have someone who's noble in the true sense of the word and who could really cherish her, and they are also so compatible, from their social status (equals!) to the fact that they are both deep-feeling but reserved people. If the plot left them alone, they could be very happy together.
BUT.
BUT.
DAE-GIL. He loves her so utterly and he lost literally everything because of her. And if not for the accident of timing - if he found her a few weeks sooner, he would still be in her heart and she would still love and want him.
Oh, Dae Gil :(
