dangermousie | Doctor Who - The End of Time

So, I watched Doctor Who's "The End of Time" and my feelings are decidedly mixed.

OK, I loved seeing the Time Lords and all (Timothy Dalton!) and the Doctor/Master/Time Lords scene was very dramatic, but I was super-irritated at the whole 'let me destroy my species yet again' schtick from Ten - Nine did it and only to save the Universe from Daleks and it fucked him up so badly but here he seems to be pretty fine redoing it and also it seems retconned that the reason he got rid of Time Lords earlier it was because they were evil and contemplating end-of-time plan. Hmmm. Me no like.

I loved seeing Wilf - I adore him. And finding out the Master's insanity was the Time Lords' fault. John Simm was, as always, super fantastic and his scenes with Tennant totally crackled.

I would be more sympathetic towards Ten's 'woe I have to die to save Wilf woe' angst if he wasn't really dying - he is regenerating! They tried to justify it a bit by his claiming it's not really him after reincarnation but a different person with same memories but - bwaaaah? I got kinda irritated with the 'enough moaning already!'

Longest, most drawn out death scene ever. Much as I liked seeing other companions and much as my shippy heart just exploded at his seeking out Rose (or her younger self) last and the way he looked at her, seriously, that 'seek every companion under the sun to say bye to' scene was super too long.

Oh God, I can't get used to Eleven's face. Forget plain, he's actively hideous. No wonder Ten didn't want to regenerate - he knew he'd turn into him

Honestly, I am not sure I will tune into S6 (or whatever number it is). I think every season has been not as good as the previous one and I have been left cold by this one and its ending. I mean, I think S1 is some of the most brilliant scifi I have ever seen, I loved S2 and it was excellent even if it wasn't as brilliant, S3 was uneven but had some amazing amazing eps, and S4 was not as good as S3 even when you factor in that I liked Donna more than Martha - it was basically tolerable for most part. And I really was bored by S5 (or the specials which were de facto S5).
