Just when I got my Duncan (from Veronica Mars) dislike under control,
ww614 posted exerpts from deleted scenes of NitW and poooooof. It flares up again. Buh-bye Donut!
And speaking of character dislike, I have a new most loathed non villain character: Hye-Won from Full House. Normally I don't have strong hatred reaction to fictional character because...fictional. But I have to make an exception. Precisely because she is not an evil monster twirling mustache as she offs the hero or heroine's elderly mother and uses the corpse to start a pestilence. She is just an appalingly selfish, shallow, self-centered woman.
lesbiassparrow, remember the appalingly annoying girl in Mars, Ling's ex, the one with the childish mannerisms and voice, who I hated with an abiding passion? Well, Hye-Won has replaced her.
Hye-Won does not have a babyish whiny voice. She is actually an attractive and poised woman. But still. Every time I see her on screen, I have to fight temptation to throw something at it.
Why? Because the girl in Mars genuinely wanted Ling back. True, she had a birdbrain and a birdheart but she wanted Ling. Whether or not he was with Qi-Luo was immaterial to her. Hye-Won has never had any interest in Young-Jae when he was so crazy for her. But as soon as she thinks he's letting her go and is married, she is all over him. And now she's told Ji-Eun she will win YJ's heart. And it's all about proving her superiority over someone else (Ji-Eun in this case) and desire to not let go even of someone she doesn't want.
And then there is the fact that even though Ling is screwed up beyond measure and Young-Jae is not, Ling is a pretty tough cookie when it comes to other people. He is pretty good at judging character (there is a reason why Tong Dao can't get far with him ever). Young-Jae is so dreadfully young and vulnerable and HW is going to walk all over his heart with cleated boots for ego's sake. She is just going to screw with his head as an ego boost. She just wants to feel good and desirable and doesn't care about what it does to anyone else. Because she doesn't want YJ. She obsesses over him because he is slipping away. If she got him, she'd not want him. I would have no problem with her if she wanted to break up a marriage because she had feelings for him. I don't think it would be praiseworthy, but it would understandable. But she doesn't have any feelings except pride. I am beginning to think she is really not seeing other people as people, just as means to make her feel a certain way.
The scene during YJ's premiere when she asks him what he is doing afterwards and he says 'nothing, I suppose' and she asks him to go somewhere, and when he asks 'Ji-Eun is going to be here. Can she come with us?' and she says 'No.' BURN. I do find it adorable that the boy is getting confused. The scene by his car when JE asks him not to go and he is all so confused and you can see he is torn even though he doesn't realize it is LOVE.
But you know when my dislike for HW was really set in stone? When after she takes him away, they end up on some playground and she tells him. 'It was here when you kissed me on the cheek when we were in third grade. And then you said you'd buy me ice-cream to apologize.' And she kisses him on the cheek and runs off to buy him ice-cream as he sits there, and he starts smiling quietly and he touches his cheek. And he is so adorable and vulnerable and she just goes for jugular and he is going to be so hurt, but that's not why this moment got me.
It's because this indicated she can read him really well and that she clearly knew how he felt for her all through the years. Before, I thought she was just dense and self-absorbed, which isn't too dreadful. But if she knew exactly everything and exactly how things make him feel, than the way she behaved to him through the years is awful. Every time she hurt him, it's not thoughtless, it's deliberate and she knew what it would make him feel. And that makes her behavior at the dinner where he was going to propose to her unforgivable. I hate headgames.
I hope she ends with no one.
We were watching more Saiyuki Reload, and the 'God' arc is interesting (Hakkai without his limiters!!!!!) but I keep wanting to know what happened to Kou.
I have been thinking about Hakkai though. I find it so interesting that in this world who you are (human, higher being or demon) is almost definitional. Let me explain what I mean. If you kill a thousand demons, you become a demon yourself. I get the feeling that is because no human (as they have no extra powers) can kill a thousand demons. So if you have, you are by definition not human (you are a demon or a celestial being. I think Sanzo is in no danger because he is Sanzo ranked). So you have to be a demon.
And how indicative of Hakkai that he was able to kill a thousand demons, with no special powers or even awesome fighting skills, through sheer strength of will and his determination to get to Kanan and save her. He is probably the most single-minded of the characters.
As to next anime once I am finished with SR, should it be Gungrave, Harukanaru or Samurai Champloo? Are there any good romantic angsty ones (yes, Basilisk but I am going to try to save it until later as only one volume is out).
And I finish with a really random thing. Music video of Matsumoto Jun (from the Japanese band Arashi and Domyouji in jdorama Hana Yori Dango). Mainly because I love the combination of really cool dancing, really awful outfits, and really hot hotness. Basically it's Bollywood redux.

And on completely other side of the spectrum, this clip from my favorite opera, La Boheme, has no pleather, but the most exquisite singing.

Date: 2006-08-15 12:38 am (UTC)I adore "Shura no Toki" and "Otogi Zoshi." In fact, the first half of "Otogi Zoshi" is my favorite of the samurai anime I've seen(the second half is also excellent, but deals with the reincarnations of the original characters)
Also, once it gets going, Bleach is rather similar to a samurai tale with superpowers, thematiclly, though you can see the similarities in designs early on(I haven't seen the anime, though) I pretty much view it as a modern samurai tale with ghosts and superpowers.
There's also Samurai Deeper Kyo, which is quite fun, though a little too wild at times. It was also my first anime series, so it has a special and prejudiced place in my heart.
But, if you liked one ep of SC< I can pretty much guarantee you'll love the thing as a whole9I I suspect there will be Furet and Shannon babble on your part once you watch the whole thing)
Also...meant to mention this before, but,...you hate duncan in VM. I now extra-heart you.
