dangermousie: (Goong by beautifulxmess2_)

Sometimes, as I sit here at 4am trying to wrangle with figuring out downloading/burning/god-knows-what, when I have no interest in technology whatsoever, or when I look at my newest DVD and realize that the subs were done by someone with a clear grudge against the English language, or when I think about the fact that I am watching a beautiful, touching story entirely in unsubbed Mandarin, a language of which I understand exactly nothing, I really want to smack myself and just throw up my hands and I end up wondering why the hell don't I just stick to the shows running on US networks.

But you know what? Ultimately, it's rather worth it. Because if the choice is between a great deal of inconvenience or not being able to watch something that can make me laugh or cry or sigh deliciously, then heck, inconvenience is OK, however pissed off I get.

Why?

Because, even with dreadful subs (they are written by someone with only a hazy understanding of the English language and no knowledge at all of punctuation, spelling or capitalization. I dread to get my other K-doramas now), Goong is a great deal of fun. I finally gave up on trying to figure out the computer stuff for today but I am too wound up to go to sleep. And you know, bad subs or not, I am hooked.

The heroine (Chae-gyung) just really cracks me up. I like Shin OK, though he really is pretty cold-blooded. If I had to marry him, I'd be sure to bring a really warm blanker because brrrrrr. I understand that he has to be all detached and controlled and everything and I cannot wait to see how he is going to clash with new wifey. I like Yul better, so far, but I know that's common in the beginning. And [livejournal.com profile] catdecember promised angst, weeeeeee!

Oh, and now Shin called his real gf but she threw the phone away and it made me a bit sad for the boy. Awwww. Also, the fangirl club outside Chae-gyung's window screaming "Give us back the Prince! Give us back the Prince! Chae-gyung, kill yourself! Chae-gyung, kill yourself!" is pretty hilarious. Girls, if she could just take $$$ for her family and not marry the guy, she would.

The thing is, the show clicked for me about two hours in (the net version clicked a lot faster because the subs were *gasp* good), when Chae-gyung walked into her parents bedroom and climbed between them and asked her Mother to rub her stomach. And all of a sudden, funny as this show is, it felt real. I remember doing this when younger and the thought of a fictional Korean character doing this, made her real. Actually, props to the casting director because Chae-gyung really does look young. I do adore her character and I am kinda worried for her at the palace. She doesn't know anyone and she is too young and not used to controlling herself (Shin might be only a bit older but he is obviously very good at filtering) and there is no one who likes her for her there. I don't think Shin will go in any way out of his way for her and the rest of the family plain don't want her. I am also curious, since I know Chae-gyung/Shin are the OTP for this, how on earth they are going to fall in love as they are so different. Hmmmm. Delicious. And worth the trouble.

But my offer of a $100 for anyone who'd burn me fansubbed versions of Goong, Full House and Tokyo Juliet still stands. Throw in all the Silence eps so far and well...But then there'd be nothing left to wish for, would there?

ETA: watched the ending and am confused. It could be the subs of doom but why is our heroine the Imperial Concubine? I thought the whole point was she'd get to marry the Prince and did so already. So what's with the concubine thing (and yeah yeah they get married at the end too but I am just lost)...

You know, I have all the files for Full House already. I can throw the files on a couple discs for you - but you will have to burn them to a tv-viewable disc since I have no desire to do that, for various reasons. I'm already making a copy of the files for [livejournal.com profile] koalathebear, so it's simple to make one more.

Also, I've been downloading A Love to Kill, but since Goong is in my queue already, I can just swap them. I have such a backlog that it doesn't make any difference which one I am currently downloading at the moment. I don't mind doing it for ones that I'm already interested in. So then you only have to download TJ/Silence yourself. ;) And burn files to tv-viewable DVD.

:) You'll manage, I'm sure!

Thank you! Are you sure though? I don't want to be a nuisance. *grovels*

Hm. Not about Goong, but I'm sorry I didn't get back before--I'd been away from a computer for a while. Anyway: I'll be back Tuesday evening, and then Friday morning we all leave for a week. And then I'll be home from the 19th to the 31st...

I am getting frustrated by the vanishing subtitles problem I keep getting for Tokyo Juliet; last nght they were there for episode 4 but now they've vanished. God knows how or why (I installed the sub software just to be sure but it makes no difference). Normally it is solved by reattaching the files but not now. *bangs head against desk*

At least with this stuff it's actually findable; I've spent months looking for the Irish langauge dub of Harry Potter because you can't buy it but it is nowhere to be found.

That is really weird: re subs. Did you get this from jdramas? Because maybe the problem would be gone if you dled from different source (aka torrents on d-addicts. I have no idea if those are hardsubbed).

True.

But the really odd thing is that it had subs last night! What happened? Obviously during the night when I was getting episode 5 from d-addicts something occured with my subtitle software, but I have no idea what. And to top it off the file I dled from d-addicts, which said it has English subs did not!

I think [livejournal.com profile] winter_baby on my flist was talking about Full House recently. You might ask her where she got her version from.

Thanks! There is an official Korean version with subs, but after seeing the nightmare is is Goong subs, I am staying a mile away from those.
