This really sums up so much about Take Care of the Lady - it's such a gender-reversed Boys Over Flowers. And I do mean BOF the Korean drama and not the source material for BOF. It has all of BOF's strenghs and pitfalls and creates a considerably mixed bag.

Like BOF, which even at its hair-tearing-out worst, was immensely watcheable, TCotL is really easy to watch - I have a short attention span and many is a much superior drama I have left unfinished or fast-forwarded through but I find it ridiculously easy to watch this.

The characters are rather like the gender-reversed BOF protagonists - a spoiled, eccentric, flawed rich heroine and a spunky, hard-working, and uncowed hero. While Lee Min Ho was better than Yoon Eun Hye in the role of rich brat (YEH is not bad or anything but LMH was incredible, easily the best thing about BOF) this is balanced out by the fact that Yoon Sang Hyun who plays this drama's poor hard worker is another Universe from the atrocious Gu Hye Sun. For one, he can act.

TCotL is nowhere near as good as the first half of BOF but nowhere near as bad as the second half of BOF. Just like BOF, it seems to think the rich brat does not have a serious off-putting flaw when he/she does and that flaw and lack of the story addressing it in any meaningful way drives me nuts - in BOF it was Jun Pyo's pathetic paralysis of will and intent in the second half, here it's Haena's violence (if it's not funny to have a guy beat a woman severely, it's not funny in reverse. I doubt the drama will ever make her learn that lesson though).

But overall, it doesn't appear to have been written by an insane person so it might end up ahead. Meanwhile, I am entertained though I do want to beat Haena myself so she'd know what it feels like. Ugh.

In other news, I am not big on celebrity couples or anything, but this is so darn sweet, like something out of Full House, Last Scandal or Star's Lover (the latter, ironically, starring Choi Ji Woo). Choi Ji Woo, a huge huge Hallyu star, and her actor-currently-in-the-army boyfriend Lee Jin Wook (less famous but, imo, ridiculously hot) were spotted by passerby out on a date while he was on leave. AWWWW.

Apparently she visits him where he is stationed, too. AWWWWWW. I adore CJW and I really really like LJW (I think he deserves to be more famous than he is - I have Someday in my netflix queue because he's the lead in that one) and I think it's sweet that they seem to be so functional despite the unconventional age difference - CJW is 6 years older than he is. And I like that they are open about it, unlike most Korean celebrities.

Here they are walking the ramp for Andre Kim a few years back (I think that was before it came out they were dating):
