I know I owe everyone replies and I promise to get to them soon (especially since I get to discuss Legend and Last Scandal - it's no hardship).
But you know which drama I have been thinking about on my walk home today? The upcoming Chuno. The latest I have heard is it's coming out at the end of December.
Let's see, here is what I know so far - Chuno is a 'fusion' period drama directed by the guy of 'Conspiracy in the Court' (which I also want to see, and which was apparently quite acclaimed). Jang Hyuk plays a "chuno", i.e. a slave hunter and Oh Ji Ho plays a "nobi" - a slave. OJH has been made a slave as a result of a false accusation (apparently slavery want not just heriditary, but could be taken on for debt or ordered as a form of punishment) and he runs away. So Jang Hyuk sets out to track him. The heroine of this (who might or might not be played by Han Hyo Joo - it's not yet decided) is apparently the object of affection for both the slave and the slave-hunter, and is someone from slave-hunter's past (apparently he is searching for her at the same time he is on the 'hunt').
I admit that this drama lags only narrowly behind IRIS as my most anticipated of the year - I like my period dramas dark and addressing the rigity/injustice of the class system (all my favorites do that - Hong Gil Dong, Damo, Kingdom of the Winds, Return of Iljimae, even Legend because DD is controlled not by limitations of class but by predetermined destiny and his role is set for him), and if there is some sort of passionate love story, that is all the better, so this seems taylored to me.
With a set-up like this, they could have cast puppets and I would have been for it, but seeing that Jang Hyuk, one of my all time favorites, is in it - gleeeee! I think it would be nice to see HHJ as the heroine but as long as they cast someone halfway competent, it will be good (if Han Hyo Joo is out, please please please cast Han Ji Min! Though I am OK with most anyone as long as it's not Gu Hye Sun who is the only Korean leading lady actress I cannot stand). I am rather more puzzled by Oh Ji Ho - I have only seen him in Fantasy Couple and he was undeniably a gorgeous, gorgeous man, but his acting and charisma were severely lacking. I am just going to hope that he's either improved since FC, FC was a fluke, and/or that the PD will get a good performance out of him. Because otherwise Jang Hyuk is going to eat him for breakfast - he is a major scene-stealer as is.
