OURAN!!!! And other stuff
Jul. 20th, 2006 07:43 pmNew dubbed Ouran ep is out. And it's hilarious and sweet, just like the rest. I have to say, I don't see why Haruhi doesn't want to hang out with the club on her vacation. Personally, I'd find it a riot. Also, I was rooting to Tamaki to win because the boy is so hopeless when it comes to Haruhi. Yup, Tamaki fangirl here. He is just so freaking sweet and straightforward. And plays piano very well. And it's amusing that Kyouya was helping him. And I am cracking up at the fact that if Haruhi notices anyone as a guy, it's Mori, and he is polar opposites from Tamaki, what with the laconic, reserved thing.
My playlist (all 15 subbed eps in order) is here
I am freaking addicted and will check out the manga actually.
Btw, is Bleach worth buying? I'd have to get it on ebay as Netflix doesn't have it. And is it complete?
Also, Tsubasa Chronicle music is my favorite anime music out there. In some ways, Syaoran reminds me of Sousuke from FMP. So earnest. Every girl should have someone as good as Syaoran around. Btw, what's up with Tomoyo and Kurogane? Are they a ship? Is he her knight? What? He seems to be a violent guy yet even after she sends him to another dimention, he still says he will serve only her. How do they know each other and what?
And talking about ships, OMG. Syaoran/Sakura are totally going to be added to the pile. I am only 3 eps in, and I already love them. So sweet and angsty and just perfect. If anyone is curious, this AMV is quite good as a trailer both for the ship and the anime. And it uses the credits music so I love. The story (to sum it up very breifly) is this: Syaoran and Sakura have been friends since childhood and have since fallen in love, even though she is a Princess and he is a commoner. However, right before declaring her feelings, Sakura accidentally activates an artifact which scatters her soul in a myriad of different feathers throughout the dimensions. She will die without her soul. Syaoran must journey with her throughout the worlds to gather them all back. Now she has no memories, no feelings, no self. In fact, with no feathers at all, she is inanimate. The more feathers they find, the more like herself she becomes. However, as a price in order to acquire the ability to travel in such a way (he ends up travelling with an interdimentional being, as well as a warrior Kurogane and a magician Fai), he has to give up the thing most important to him: Sakura's feelings for him. Now, even if she regains all of her memory and her soul, she will not know him or remember him. At all.

Date: 2006-07-21 12:48 am (UTC)Kurogane is basically the Princess's bodyguard and she DOES like him, he just gets carried away and does need to learn to tone it down. Call it tough love. Kurogane's issues are always more straightforward than Fai's, who I love. Fai's such a sweetheart, but there is a deep sadness to him that Kurogane(!!) is the first to pick up on.
And I love Syaoran. He's the white knight of the whole thing, but his own past has plenty of issues that start coming out as the series goes along. He's also blind in one eye (they don't let you know that until later).

Date: 2006-07-21 12:51 am (UTC)Thanks for the Kurogane illumination. I was wondering about that. What was going on? Was he trying to off everyone to prove his superiority or just picking fights?
I do love Fai. He is one of those sweet, effective guys. He reminds me a bit of a mix between PMK's Souji and Alice 19th' Kyo.
Ooooh, Syaoran has issues (that don't have to do with Sakura losing her memory that is). yay! I think I'll like him even better. I do think he is just so pure hearted, but not in a cloying, saintly way.

Date: 2006-07-21 01:00 am (UTC)Fai's a sad soul since he's basically on the run. There's a bit of resignation to him that Kurogane doesn't have (which is why they're good for each other) and it irritates Kurogane that Fai is very disinterested with saving himself, since that stands against everything Kurogane believes in.
There's more to Syaoran than meets the eye. He's not a complete innocent.

I gotta say, Makona would irritate me. Not big on cutesy fluffy things.
Fai's a sad soul since he's basically on the run.
What IS he running from? Are they going to go into more detail?

Date: 2006-07-21 01:35 pm (UTC)Nine manga volumes in, they haven't explained all that much about Fai except that on the world he's from when the king is revives he's going to come after Fai for some reason.
One of the best bits in the manga is when Sakura wakes up and has no idea who Syaoran is and while he was expecting that, it still hits him hard and he goes out in the rain and starts crying. Fai and Kurogane are watching him and Kurogane makes the comment that Syaoran's going to have to get stronger and Fai makes the astute statement that "sometimes it takes strength to cry when you should".

Date: 2006-07-21 04:01 pm (UTC)In the manga Kurogane actually doesn't have the obnoxious attitude all that long.
He's started chilling out already in the anime too, which is good, as the first ep I just wanted to smack him.

Date: 2006-07-21 04:47 am (UTC)I know, the piano playing was just beyond adorable. You forget that Tamaki has this sort of hidden skill and then it comes out. I also love how everyone swoons for Tamaki, but Haruhi is indifferent. I love Mori so wood chopping was great. And I love how anime emphasized how random it was. Heeee.
I am SO hooked on Ouran. can't wait till next week!
And thanks re: Kurogane and Tomoyo.
And yes, S&S are so adorable.

Date: 2006-07-21 03:08 am (UTC)I've watched the first four episodes on YouTube and omg I cannot agree more about the music. GORGEOUS.
And I was wondering the same thing about Tomoyo and Kurogane, which is weird because in CCS one of Tomoyo's defining things is her pure, selfless love for Sakura.
I'm really, really enjoying the series. I already love Kurogane and Fai which is awesome because I'm not predisposed to love them since they aren't CCS characters.
And Syaoran/Sakura in CCS is just made of cute to the point that your heart melts, but Syaoran/Sakura in Tsubasa was seriously breaking my heart. I love them so. Tsubasa also marks the first time I've been into an anime that's not completed. Which reminds me that I totally need to order the manga.

I know, they are SO heartbreaking here. They are so sweet and caring and you know they are in for a world of pain. I feel horrible for Syaoran because having to deal with the love of your life (not to mention lifelong friend) treating you as a stranger, and voluntarily chosing it to save her life, knowing that it was YOUR choice (not as if he had much of one bust still) is horrible. In some ways, it's going to be so much worse for him when she wakes up. She will sound like Sakura and walk like Sakura, but she won't know him. And it's horible for Sakura, even though she won't know about the loss, because it's something she would have loved to hold on to. The concept reminds me a bit of the one Angel episode (x-over with Buffy), "I will remember you" but it uses it as a starting point.

I've just got hooked on Ouran, which is another incomplete anime (and it has even less eps out than Tsubasa). I tried to stay away but couldn't help myself. And I can just see the withdrawal hitting. Not good.
