I think I am sick. In the head that is. Because I keep gleeing over how the Heroine thoroughly dumped the Hero in Spring Waltz and told him she could never ever ever forgive him, and walked away. And he collapsed on the floor. So very satisfactory.

The reason I am sick? It's not like I dislike the Hero. I rather adore him actually - he is a snarky yet sweet-natured woobie. He hasn't been horrible to the Heroine either, in a way a lot of drama heroes tend to be (as soon as he figured out he loved Heroine, which was reasonably quick, he broke off with Secondary Girl and confessed his feelings to the Heroine as opposed to putting everyone through piles of misery while having self-awareness of a plank), so I don't think "he had it coming!" either.

No, I think I love it because of the reason she does it. For once it's not all about Heroine's great lurve for the Hero, thus her action being all about him - i.e. the very popular drama trope of Heroine having to ditch the guy she loves to protect him (see Save the Last Dance, My Girl and a billion other dramas). And for once, it's not a result of a misunderstanding caused by Secondary Girl or whatever (Chunhyang and a billion other dramas). In fact, when Hero thinks it's the latter and apologizes for Secondary Girl's grabbing and kissing him before he could react in front of Heroine, I want to hug him and tell him it's the least of his problems.

No, for once a heroine ditches the hero for her own sake, and not an unreasonable one, either. She ditches him because she finds out the truth (it's the kid she used to be friends with when kids, under another name now) and she hates his birth father like poison (with full justification) and she hates him too (wrongly, but she doesn't know that - on information she has, she is justified, and even if she had the info earlier, I could see how she'd still hate him - indirectly everything is his fault, the poor guy). I love that assertion of selfhood, if it makes sense. I am sure they will get back together as she finds out the truth about what he did for her/decides she loves him too much to give up/just plain wants to spite Secondary Girl (I wish :D)) But I really like that here it is all about her and what she thinks and feels and needs and not about being selfless or mistaken in a transparently silly way.
