This post is mainly a giant collection of recs.
aliterati has a great post on Krrish and one comparing Fiza and Mission Kashmir. And speaking of Hrithik, below are a bunch of links to an interview Hrithik did with Simi Garewal (who acts like a Hedda Hopper, and looks like a plasticized mummy, I swear). The whole thing is worth checking out for the unbelievably cheesetastic credits alone, but it's even more worth it for the fact that Hrithik appears to be polite and quiet-spoken, rocks his pink shirt and dark suit, and almost induces a sugar coma in me when (in response to Simi asking him if he knows anyone that's perfect (they have a discussion about perfectionism)) he replies that whoever coined the phrase "Nobody's perfect" hadn't met his wife Suzanne because she is perfect and he is all beamy and looks like a little kid. Either he is a better actor than I give him credit for (possible) or its totally awwwwww-inducing. The whole interview in English and seriously, think of old type Hollywood stuff. Such a throwback thing. Plus, he is fucking hot and sweet, even if not the brightest crayon in the box. And then Suzanne comes out and they have a double interview (it starts with the second youtube link) and I am dead of the cute. Seriously. And it includes the worst, cheesiest poems ever written by man. And the cheesiest most adorable wedding videos. I swear. The whole thing is cheesetastic and irresistable. I am still cracking up at Suzanne's comment that it's the biggest high when all these women went crazy for Hrithik because there all these women who want him and he loves you. Such a girl thing to say. I do have to agree that Suzanne is very beautiful. Very pale though. Is she anemic or something? (btw,
crumpeteer, Zayed Khan is Suzanne's brother. How bizarre. Everyone is interrelated in Bollywood). And either she is slouching in a bizarre fashion or she is already pregnant in this shoot. When was it done anyway? ETA: yup, pregnant.

I have also just discovered the cross-over to die for: In Harm's Way. Dean Winchester. Logan Echolls. (Not that way). In a bar. LOVE IT. And a Dean and Sam fic (not that way) Ain't Scared of Lightning. It's utterly brilliant.

Is the only one where I couldn't look away because of his expressions. And I'm not even much of a Hrithik fan.

Me too. I like him in movies, but he is that rare actor where I find him more attractive and appealing in RL than I do in movies...

Date: 2006-07-11 06:44 pm (UTC)Good point. It's weird. But in movies he is often almost too gorgeous, too tall, too larger than life. Which is odd because one would think that sticking a gorgeous man among other gorgeous people (actors) would make him stick out less.
Yet he comes across as much more real and approachable in real life.
Maybe that him in acting/charisma mode in the movies. Then again I tend to think he would stick out in a movie (whether as good or bad) pretty much regardless of how he acts it.

Date: 2006-07-11 06:48 pm (UTC)Exactly. I think it's also his movie manner versus his RL manner. In a movie he is all hero-like: capable of beating up 10 goondas with one arm tied behind his back, serenading the heroine in the Alps, camera fetishizing him to a huge degree. In RL he just comes across as nice, and startlingly normal and even a bit self-effacing. And that very antithethis of a Bolly hero: quiet. Quietly nice. And I find that more appealing than the heroic hero thing.
It's interesting, that nice vibe he emits. I have no idea if that's how he really is or if he is good at putting it on for the cameras, but it's interesting how consistent it is. I can't think of other Bolly actors that have it. E.g. with SRK, I am always aware of how freaking smart and sharp he is and how amazingly charismatic, but not the sheer niceness or anything like that.

They also have their parents who have quite an impressive love story themselves (what is it with all those BW actors meeting their wives at the age of 14?).

ROFL. Didn't SRK also meet Gauri when she was 14 or so? That does seem bizarre.
Apparently Aamir and his first wife had a cool love story too, and we know how that ended up :P

Yeah, Zayed's parents, SRK/Gauri and Rishi Kapoor/Neetu Singh are the ones I know of. Actually Zayed's parents reminded me a lot of a more put together version of Rishi/Neetu (Rishi and Neetu are more adorable though). They both seemed very interesting and smart. They mentioned that Zayed's father was quite the intellecutal, running around with Tolstoi under his arms, making a lot of contact with political figures during his career.

Yay. Another person who likes Rishi and Neetu. I think, bright or not, they are definitely adorable. And I also loved them in their movies together...

Simi: John, for a billion dollar, would you go through a sex change.
John Abrahams: Never.[...] I'm very happy with my manhood. *pause* I'm very proud of it.
Me: *snerk*
And Priyanka retelling the story of how Abhishek stole her mobile phone during the shooting of Bluffmaster and she got back at him by stealing his phone and sending a fluffy sms message to a person in his addresslist. Namely? Rani. LOL.
I have to say, I was also rather impressed by Sanjay Dutt talking so openly about his drug history.

Now I am doing the mental equivalent of rolling on the floor.
If you ever do want to check out an old Rishi/Neetu movie, I recommend Amar Akbar Anthony. It's cheesy and hilarious and fun and quite good.

Date: 2006-07-11 07:13 pm (UTC)My first was: I bet Bipasha is very proud of it too ;p
But yeah, he talked very sweetly and sappily about his parents and then Simi brought them on through a video. He had the funniest expression going on when they brought that in. They looked very nice. I also liked the part about how they wanted him to change his name (he could have used Farhan which is his name too).
