Jul. 10th, 2006 06:18 pmSaw "Shadow. "OMG. This was a great ep. I get the feeling that Dean never grew right or grew up (due to the pressures of his childhood he never got any childhood) so all he wants is all the family together. So much of him is tied in with that. It's like a little kid who needs a family safety blanket around him. I must admit Sam's attitude is much healthier. Sam sees that family or not, when you grow up you can go your way and do your own thing. He, unlike Dean, has his own identity and self worth. That scene where Dean tells Sam about his family desire, he just comes across as broken and naked emotionally.
I loved the boys' reunion with their father (though John? Still not a favorite). Very Bollywood. Love Dean (who looks like a little kid) and Dad hugging but Sam looking unsure of his welcome. But then of course they hug later too. And whoever has the 'yes sir' icon, you are right. It's hot. In another universe from hot is Sam getting molested by Meg. Ugh.
And then of course, at the end, Dean is the one who has to break the family up because he is more good at following orders, despite what it would do to his psyche, and Sam is the one who cries. Everything is so OMG in this ep. And the grime and the blood and the angst.
"Hell House" was rather lightweight, but I loved the geeky website owners with their "What would Buffy do?" and "This is our ticket to fame. Money. Sex. With girls" and "Sweet Lord of the Rings." Heeee. Also notorious for that wonderful shot of Sam's abs. In between being a great student and making Jess happy, the boy must have spent three hours a day in the gym. It is interesting, though, Sam's thoughts that some of the things they fight exist only because people believe in them. And the look on Dean's face as a result.

Date: 2006-07-10 10:37 pm (UTC)So true. Then again, Sam getting molested by anyone is it's own universe of hot.
It amazes me so much how different Dean is around John. He's usually so cocky and disrespectful and lively. But even at the mention of his father, he changes so much. He gets so quiet and obedient. It's really cute. It's such a different side of him.
Hell House annoyed me, because of the pure and utter stupidity of that girl who decided to go into the house that was haunted instead of kissing that guy who was even kinda hot. If you're going to choose to get yourself killed because of a dare, then I don't really pity you too much when you die.
But it was a really good idea about demons only existing because people believed in them. It made me think back to "Bloody Mary", because if that logic is true, then she probably exists only because so many billions of people believe that she does.

I love how both of the brothers have perfect bodies even though they never have time to go to the gym. I mean, demon hunting is probably quite a work out, but it isn't enough to give you the kind of body that Sam and Dean have. All that they really do is chase things occasionally and shoot a lot. You can only get that kind of body by lifting weights at the gym. :o]

Yup. Definitely the Chosen One(s). Chosen to have gorgeous bodies, that is.

Date: 2006-07-10 11:08 pm (UTC)And Dean IS a different creature around John. He's meeker, quieter and much more serious. Of course Sam is different too as you see his hackles automatically start going up. He and John are far too much alike. He blows up at John later on for keeping stuff from them, yet he did the same thing to Dean in "Bloody Mary" and Dean took it at face value. Sam forgets whose son he is sometimes.
And the "yes, sir". Hot. Enough said.
Then there's the boys working in tandem again with a slightly horny demon. Dean's expression in that scene is priceless.
And the famed ab shot. Worth the price of admission.

Date: 2006-07-10 11:47 pm (UTC)I think he is extremely codependent. Maybe because he doesn't seem to have too much self-worth, so he finds it in being with his family?
And yes, Sam and John are very alike. Both strike me as a lot tougher, emotionally, than Dean is. I wonder why.

Date: 2006-07-11 04:27 am (UTC)Take Logan from VM. He too has issues. He too is a drama king. His life too sucks. But I'd find him appealing over Dean any day because at least we see him rage against it, act out, fuck up, try something, reach for something, come back angry. Dean is just too creepily passive for my taste sometimes.
I'm sure the building of Dean's charcter and self esteem will be a character arc of the show, but yeah, just not pleasant to watch for me.
