Apologies for the recent Supernatural spam. It's a lot of posts and it also kinda derailed all the other topics. I promise it'll be more balanced by next week once I am done with the eps.

But to get back on topic. OMG. How much love do I have for this episode? About as much as Dean has for Sam, that's how much.

We get a bunch of cannibalistic, human-huntin' hillbillies who kidnap Sam and it's all very grisly. I just love how Dean gets so outraged when he realizes the perps are human. He is used to hunting ghosties and ghoulies and protecting people and seeing when people, who have no excuse of being dead or intrinsically evil a la poltergeist, actually choose to be monsters? I don't think it's something Dean will ever come to grip with.

And Sam is in a cage, being all resourceful and calm and knowing, just knowing Dean will come for him. He does look up to Dean, doesn't he? All their bickering aside, he knows how capable Dean is and that Dean will give his life for him. And he is right.

And Sam disappearing is almost Dean's worst nightmare come true. I love it that when he goes to the cops, he is desperate, however much he tries to hide it beneath a professional demeanor. He just can't rest until he finds Sam. And when the cop finds out he isn't who he says he is, he is begging the cop, with his voice breaking (is Dean the brother who cries, or what?) that he will let her arrest him, everything, as long as they can find Sam first. And he mentions about carrying Sam out of the fire when they were kids and how he's felt responsible for him since then, and it's something that's the very bedrock of Dean's personality, but I don't think he's ever really voiced it before.

And then of course he goes down fighting in the hillbilly stronghold, and gets tied up and tortured (ouch, hot pokers!) and is all defiant and angrily snarky until he realizes that his brother is about to be killed and he is the one who sentenced him. And then he is just desperate, and half-pleading, and he crumbles, and there is this blinding rage, and when he yells that he is going to kill them all, I so buy that. He is pretty frightening and if they did kill Sam, I can see him wiping them out if he got the chance, the kid included. And I do love that he picks for Sam to be the one hunted because he has a fighting chance. It reminds me of Zoe in Firefly, when faced with a choice between Wash and Mal and being able to only buy back one from the horrible torture, picking Wash (and yes, he is her husband, but it's because she knew Mal would stand under the torture better).

I love Sam leaving the cop with Hillbilly No 1. I think he knows what she plans to do and he lets her. Sam's getting darker.

Dark, and good, and I love how Dean just won't admit to Sam how worried for him he was, even if a dumb, deaf, and blind person could tell.

LJ ate my original post, so I'm trying again.

And Sam is in a cage, being all resourceful and calm and knowing, just knowing Dean will come for him.

I love that part, as Sam finally shows some of the brotherly awe he does have for his big brother. Dean may be insecure and have plenty of hang ups, but Sam is completely confident in him.

This becomes a very serious part of Dean's make up later on. If you think he's scary here, wait until "Devil's Trap" where he literally would have beaten Meg to death except that Sam stops him and he declares full scale war on hell and you believe he means it. What's even more unsettling is that he's gorgeous when he's mad. You see Sam also start getting this horrified look as the scene progresses and he sees how much Dean has snapped.

And I do love that he picks for Sam to be the one hunted because he has a fighting chance.

And Dean has all the confidence in the world in Sam too. He trusts him and the two work as a unit. Seperately they're only mediocre, but together they're special.

In some ways, Sam sees Dean the way Dean sees Dad.

f you think he's scary here, wait until "Devil's Trap" where he literally would have beaten Meg to death except that Sam stops him and he declares full scale war on hell and you believe he means it.

Ooooh, can't wait. Dean is so brittle, no wonder he snaps.

This was one of my favorite episodes of the season. It was extremley amusing :P "I'll say it again. Demons I get, people are crazy!"

Seeing Sam in that cage was such a turn on

Dean being tortured was even more of a turn on
