I just read Jacob's recap of Farscape's "Exodus from Genesis" and I want to hit something. preferably him. The recap is, as always, overly pretentious, with no mockery or funny bits, and pseudo-philosophical, and much much too long, but what I can't wrap my brain around is someone so basically not understanding the show or the characters or the freaking theme of the thing so utterly. Ugh. Show? One universe. Jacob? Another. So stop with the freaking recap. (Hello? Farscape is the sewer into which Star Trek can run so it can be neat and clean? The HELL?)

Ugh. TWoP gets stupider by the freaking day.

There's a fine line between the spirit of humor and the spirit of meanness. As an avid watcher of Mystery Science Theater 3000 I've seen how you have to navigate that line. There's a difference between poking fun and pretentiously mocking. TWoP has crossed that line. Instead of finding the humor in the ridiculous, many of the writers tend to sneer down their noses at shows. There's a difference between laughing at in good fun, yet still enjoying the show and ripping apart just because you feel it's your duty. I feel many of the writers don't even like the shows they're watching. It stops being funny and simply becomes mean spirited.

Exactly. I was trying to read some other recaps and just got bored. The reviewer was mean, unfunny and just too damn long winded. Oh well...

I read his recap of "A Human Reaction," and I was like, "WTF? Is this your dissertation, dude?" I haven't read any recaps by him before. Is he ALWAYS like that?

I haven't been visiting TWoP much lately. Sounds like that's a good thing!

He is always like that. I am usually 'just go write a book of essays you are dying to and leave us alone."

Yeah, TWoP is sliding downhill, IMO.

Twop never really made me laugh, thus, I long ago stopped bothering to pay attention. I did, however, hear they were doing Farscape, and was saddened, as I was sure it would suck.

Yes, I am a smug, petty person.

Yup, the ones I did read definitely sucked sucked sucked. Icon!!!

Also, this particular recap was saying how women in Farscape were all traditional nurturing mommies (comparing it unfavorably with BSG) which just made me want to grab my head and go whaaaaaaaa? Is he seeing the same Aeryn I am?

IS HE SEEING THE SAME ZHAAN? You know, the one who likes to blow shit up and KILLED her lover while they were having sex? God.

Chiana is not a nurturer. Jool is... *snicker* And Sikozu? *dies* Oh, yeah. They're all nurturing mommies all right.

*points at icon* Aeryn wants to say this to him.

Hm. I actually like Jacob's recaps of Farscape for the most part, and don't find his interpretation of the characters and themes at all out of whack, even when I don't agree with them. Then again, I find his recaps of Doctor Who completely unreadable, and he's using the exact same style, so to each his or her own. *shrug*

Myself, I always wished that I was watching the same BSG that Jacob was because he was getting so much more out of it than I was... TWoP recaps of shows you love must be approached with caution, I find.

Yeah, Jacob is generally not my thing. I did love his recap of Serenity, so I think it depends on what he is writing about.

Jacob's very prententious (IMO) style is deeply unsuited to such a pop-junk (and I mean it in a good way) show as Dr Who. Talk about killing the spirit!

That's a very good way of putting it. Having grown up on old Dr. Who, I do not get his impulse to find deep meaning there. It's got its themes and its moments, but yikes.
