I am a very sick person, but this is very hot. Go, Dong Chul! Kill them all!!!!

Even hotter than this:

Seriously, ep 12 of East of Eden almost maxed out my angst tolerance. Just how many bad things can happen to characters I like? Rape and attempted suicide in the aftermath? Check. Severe torture and then learning your girlfriend was raped and then more torture? Check. Beatdowns and having your mother disown you? Check. Being reminded yet again your family only sees you as whether you are relevant to their status? Check. And I am still 20 minutes from the end of the ep!

If I were someone in this, I'd want to be the bad guy. Up until his inevitable comeuppance, he is having a good time, at least.

Also, I think my moral views are somewhat different from some of the characters.

1. Abortion: I can understand Ji Heun not being able to go through with aborting the child that is the result of her rape. This sort of thing is always a very painful and personal choice. But I was screaming at her to do it, and screaming at the Priest during his 'counselling' when he was all 'you have to live and get this child raised and some people only show their love disfunctionally [i.e. the rapist]' WTF? What she needs is rape counselling and someone to remind her it's not her fault and she has worth (she tells the Priest her body is dirty and gets no response, WTF!), and to encourage her to eventually rebuild her life, whether as a single person of worth, or to go back to the man she loves and who loves her and only cares for her hurt, not the stigma. She needs to be told it doesn't matter except in the way it hurt her, it doesn't matter in the sense of her having less worth or being unclean. (That is why I was so mad the Priest was telling Dong Wook not to see her. WTF! Somebody should tell her she is still worthy of love and respect. I really wanted for her to consent to see him, but she wouldn't even look at him because of her 'dirt' and he would obviously never break into her room. ARGH).

2. Dong Chul and Dong Wook's Mom: SHUT UP. She is a righteous person, true, but she is awful also, isn't she? First thing to do when your long-lost son comes back to you after more than a decade is not to throw his past in his face (hello, he escaped juvie to get you money, you ungrateful cow) and tell him to never see his brother. GRRR. Also, I live in a country where a lot of states allow casinos, so to me the fact that he works for a casino is: "so what?" There are perhaps better jobs out there, but it's hardly as if he is the slave of Satan.

3. This leads me to point 3. Momster is horrified when Dong Chul says that he wants to have power. Why? It's all well and good to seek the protection of the law, but in Dong Chul's consistent experience, the system is broken and whoever has money and connections can trump the law. So I can see him not bothering with school (it's sort of a mirror of what Dong Wook is doing, with his student protests: the current system doesn't work). Mom is being entirely unrealistic. Law worked so well to get them justice. It wasn't law that got Dong Wook out of torture cells alive, is was Dong Chul begging someone powerful to intervene.

4. Myung Hun. So repulsive and so real. For him, it is always about him. He is asking forgiveness from Ji Hyun for the rape because he wants forgiveness for his own peace of mind. He has the nerve to ask her to make him a human being (once again, all about him), it is all about his love, his needs, his wants. Not about her. To be fair, he has a point saying that this is all he has ever learned in his house. (Ahhh, irony. If he was brought up in Dong Wook's place he would not be the psycho he is. Would Dong Wook? I have no idea if DW would be good (unlikely), but he'd certainly be more functional: he has a much stronger personality).

Anyway, caps.

The scene of Dong Chul reuniting with his Mother:

I liked this scene of the confrontation between the unknowing biological brothers. Ahhh, the irony of Myung Hun saying when he was little he envied Dong Wook for having such a tough older brother.

Nope, still not liking Hyo Rin.

Poor woobie Dong Wook.

I loved the reunion of DC with his stepmom who is more loving than his real mother, actually.

The scene with his Mom killed me. He has reverted to such a child-like, defenseless state, and she is being such a BITCH. He did not do anything wrong. GGRRRRR. When she tells him he should have come back after she was dead? STAB.

The whole leave forever gggrrrr speech. Woman, remember how you regretted never saying a kind word to your husband until he was on his deathbed, even though you loved him? Are we trying for a Mark 2 here?

Awwwww.

After the day from hell, he comes back and heeeee. Grace totally waited up because she was worried but now she is being all jerky about it (because she is mad at herself) and he is not in a good mood either, so there is snark. You can work out your issues through sexin'! I am just sayin'!

Oh my God. This scene killed me. Dong Wook learns Ji Hyun was raped.

And he runs to see her, and he is begging for her to let him in, but she won't even turn, because she feels so dirty. OMG, and the bit where he is stroking her face through the glass. *dead*

And he leaves, defeated. Only to be grabbed by the Army, which forcibly 'drafted' him at the request of Mr. Sociopath. UGH. And he is screaming Ji Hyun's name.

Some time passes (I am too depressed to present you with a montage of DW getting tortured in the Army, too). Dong Chul is being all gangstery. Mmm.

And is recruiting flunkies.

When we continue, more cheerfulness (but also awesome caps of brotherly reunion which for some reason didn't load this time).
