It's just as well East of Eden doesn't have an American fanbase. The slashfic would be through the roof.
Because the main relationship in the drama is between brothers Dong Chul and Dong Wook, isn't it? The scene in ep 11 where they finally reunite made me teary. And made me yell 'hug already' at the screen. So good. Dong Wook transformed into a trusting little 10-year old again, despite the torture, and Dong Chul totally losing it. AWWW.

Other thoughts:
1. "What? Am I getting out of here alive?" Oh, Dong Wook, you are breaking my heart.

2. I love how fixated Grace still is on Dong Chul, however grumpy she is in person. But here is my (entirely unspoilery, speculative) fear: what if she is going to die? Her character description said something about a woman willing to give up her life for love. Yikes. Doesn't bode well. Hmmm. Don't die, Grace! At least not before you and DC make-out. I keep hoping he will just grab you in his arms and smooch you. Please?

3. I really cannot warm up to Hyo Rin at all. In fact, I am completely uninterested in her character. Lee Da Hae plays her very well, it's just the character itself I find unappealing. I am not big on self-righteous 'holier than thou' types: Dong Wook is a lot more dedicated and idealistic than she is (not to mention doesn't have a cushion of rich Mommy and Daddy) and is still not like that. Also, would it kill her to be polite to her parents at least once. Why she expects them to jump through hoops for her when she won't even speak politely to them, escapes me...

4. I can totally see why Ji Heon tried to kill herself. She is very traditional, so her not being a virgin (even if it's through rape) means she is no longer 'pure', no longer a good woman, good enough to be with Dong Wook. Not to mention that she can tell there is no chance DW is getting out of the torture cells. He is probably going to be dead very shortly (Man, I just realized, that Dong Wook was getting tortured just as Ji Heon was getting raped. Talk about an OTP that has more than its amount of angst). And even if he got out and she told him, than what? He is totally powerless and it would either drive him mad or he would ruin his life for vengeance further.

(from the preview. OMG. DW is trying to see her and she won't let him)
5. I do wish she'd stabbed Myung Hun first. Now there is an irredeemable human being. I love how this drama keeps undermining the tranditional 'blood will out' concept. No, it won't. MH might be the biological child of wonderful Union leader and his wife, who while tough and bitter, is not a bad person, but he was brought up by Mr. Sociopath so he turned into a monster (I love all the scenes where he unknowingly interacts with his bio brother and mother). I guess the remnants of his basically good genetic personality (which we saw when he was a child) are what are responsible for turning him into a total mess as opposed to ruthlessly and coldly effective. He is doing bad things to poor to please his father, not because he has ambition. His fixation is not money and power, it's Ji Heon. And then look at Dong Wook: he is the bio child of Mr. Sociopath but he was brought up by his 'mother', a good person, his 'stepmother' (another good person) and Dong Chul, surely one of the kindest and best brothers ever. So he is a wonderful man. Yeah. Also, oh the irony! Shin Tae Hwan almost had his biological son tortured to death.

(MH begging for forgiveness and not getting it)
6. Dong Chul. I love him. Not much more to say than that. I love how into adulthood he kept that reflexive unthinking kindness, even to total strangers (Hyo-Rin, when she is stranded). Also, when he is on that desperate edge, he reminds me of his younger self. It's funny, his personality is basically his Dad's (who was very good-natured) but overlaid with this desperation and pain. Yum.

7. If Park Hye Jin who plays Myung Hun ever plays a romantic lead, I am going to get so emotionally involved, it will be unhealthy. I mean, he makes me feel sympathy for even his unredeemable character, so if he played a bona fide good guy, I might just spontaneously combust. OMG. Please.
