First off, I think I am a dork but I watched this waaaay too many times. (Scroll all the way down and to the right and click on the VM link for the video).

Secondly, the rest of this post is meta on Mars versus Mars. I love the A-plot on this one: Keith pitted against Veronica, and they are both right and both wrong (yes, Rooke is a slimebag, no, he didn't sleep with Carrie). Of course, since Rooke is an excellent teacher, I guess the best place for him is at an all-boys academy.

But forget all that, because I want to talk about the B-plot, L & V's search for Lynn. I love that 2.14 starts exactly where 2.13 leaves off. The expression on Logan's face as he stands outside's V's door? It's incredibly hard for him to ask, and he knows he has no right, but he is desperate. And a bit too strongly in denial (why do people think she is dead? Let's see, Logan. She ditched her car with open doors in the middle of a bridge and left a suicide note). But Logan is so fragile and desperate here, because despite how lousy Lynn was as a mother, if she is gone he has nothing left but Aaron. *shudder* And the fact that he doesn't want to locate her, just wants to know she is OK, even if it means she abandoned him is heartbreaking. So is his comment to V that if his Mom would have killed herself, she would have used Chardonnay and sleeping pills. No kid should be able to say that about his Mom as if he knew this for a fact. Wow.

And I love that V, who knows what it's like to have a parent abandon you, agrees to help so readily. It's not that Logan used to be a friend, it's because she can so well imagine herself in his place. Though she is differently deluded: she thinks her Mom really cares for her.

And so we get V and L working together. I love the scene in the parking lot when she tells him about her plan about the white trash woman talking about seeing Lynn jump. Teamwork and snark make their appearance. Yay. And they are definitely on the same wavelength in the sheriff's office: they just have this incredible chemistry and vibe which makes me grin every time I see them have scenes together. I'd forgotten how wonderful it feels. And then of course, poor Logan, having to listen to that woman say that she will say anything to tabloids, and making money and fame off his mother's death. No wonder he blows up. And that horrible moment when he realizes that the woman who claims she saw Lynn alive is a deluded fan and you can tell by the slump of his shoulders that the weight of the world just dropped on him and he wanders out of there without even looking where he is going (and how typical that Weevil is, ultimately, willing to help). And then of course when he watches that video of his Mother's body falling. And he stumbles out and I feel like he can't even see at that moment and he is so in shock he is just looking for a place to hide.

I also love how he is trying to keep V at a distance throughout all this, make it a professional job, because if it's not, if she is doing it because she feels sorry for him or for old times sake, it opens a whole can of worms he is not willing to deal with, it brings in emotions and makes V his friend and he isn't ready to open himself up like that. But that scene in her office when he teases and they talk back and forth about tabloids and 'you mean the girl with the pig arm can't really bowl?" And his crack about penicillin (ahhh, irony in light of S2). That is chemistry. Can't bottle it, can't fake it, but when it's there...I love LV lighthearted moments. And then of course we get to next ep which I haven't rewatched yet, but I remember his touching her arm and holding it, and it's the first voluntary physical contact he's made with her, and it shows their growing awareness of each other and him opening up. Yay.

Also, I started watching Supernatural Pilot (about 10 minutes in) and it's very good. In fact, I am hooked, hooked, hooked! Sam's desire for normalcy and Dean's acceptance of his role (because what else can he do? Someone's got to do it) is good. Eye candy isn't good though. It's AMAZING.

Sam's desire for normalcy and Dean's acceptance of his role (because what else can he do? Someone's got to do it) is good.

Dean has serious, serious issues that a lot of his bravado hides that keep slowly leaking out until by the end of the season you realize he's probably a lot more screwed up than Sam ever was, not that Sam isn't getting to that point now. Jensen is just masterful at playing someone who is incredibly vulnerable sometimes, but who doesn't want your pity (quite a bit like Alec). "Dead in the Water" (episode 3 or 4) is the first one you really start to see how much strain is being put on him so you see why he is the way he is in the sides for 2.01, willing to consider just laying down and dying if it will give him a little peace.

And Sam, well Sam's issues are a book in and of themself.

Assimilate! Resistance is futile!

I really can't wait to watch more. If I find it that addictive on a crappy small youtube screen, I can't wait to see it on DVD!

Such a good L/V plot in this one. I think this was when I realised that Logan had stopped being an OPJ and turned into an actual human being. Although I loved him as the OPJ too! I think you are totally right about him trying to keep V away because if he lets her in it will be more than he can handle. After all, that's exactly what we see in the very next eppy. WHICH I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVEN'T REWATCHED! It's one of my favourites. As you may have guessed.

Yay for the SPN love. Although the supernatural aspects of the plot often leave a little to be desired, the Sam and Dean interaction is pretty much always fantastic. And you are SO RIGHT about the eye candy. Also, I friended you thanks to your little rewatch series! Hope that's ok.

I've friended you back!

I haven't rewatched RB yet because I've stopped last night around 1 am with MvM and went to bed. It's definitely next on the list. I love love love LOVE it.

I just love how gradual and believable the Logan 'reveal' was in S1. he started out as this cliche rich jerk nemesis and ended the season as one of the most amazing TV characters ever (IMo of course).

And how sad is it that Logan, in his hour of need, has no one to turn to but Veronica, someone he is enemies with? The boy really is lonely...

I don't know about you, but I have this tendancy to forget that they "used to be friends" and obviously pretty close ones. I think that Logan turns to Veronica because he realises that what he needs is someone who knows him. Not the jackass he is now, but the real him. He wants to talk to Veronica because she knew him before his life totally fell apart, and no matter how much of a jerk he has been to her, she knows him like noone else. Except possibly Duncan. But he would be no help AT ALL. He is lonely, but I think that is because he chooses to be. He doesn't want anyone to get close, because that way he can't lose them.

That's a wonderful point, and not one I thought about before at all. Thank you!

I don't think he actively seeks out friends (he is way too prickly for that, and you are right, too scarred as well), but if someone manages to make him let his guard down (through showing they don't really want anything from him but just like him or are nice to him), he just jumps onto it...they boy is sociable yet lonely, after all.

That icon cracks me up every time I see it!

I love reading your thoughts on VM. It makes me want to rewatch that episode. I adore the whole V/L relationship while they're looking for his mother although I had no idea where they were going with that relationship at the time. It's really one of the most important parts of season 1 for me. Those are the scenes that stayed with me.

Also, I will not admit in public how many times I watched that E clip. It was so adorable. I remember gushing in my LJ to an embarrassing extent.

I will not admit it in public either. We can be addicts together. And yes, VM actually works even better on rewatch, which considering that I loved it initially, is a huge deal...

P.S.

I know. It's amazing how good season 1 was. I don't hate season 2, but I don't find it nearly as rewatchable.

I'm definitely addicted to that clip. We need a support group. I just rewatched it again when I read your post and I still think JD is about the cutest thing alive.

In response to your PS, I'm not sure I agree with the best friends who are in love but I love that Dohring sees them that way.

And then he starts randomly jumping around for no reason, all hyper about whether the interviewer figured out the mystery. Lay off the coffee, boy :P

Well, they are in love (or at least giddy about each other) and they are friends. Don't think they are best friends though...But yeah, the fact that he phrased it that way was adorkable.

I know-isn't that the cutest face ever?

He's so giddy, with the little hop. He should bottle that stuff. Seriously, JD is one of those things that can almost always make me smile. You have seen the ready to run video, haven't you?

Yes, they definitely have aspects of that kind of relationship-they knew each other as friends first. I know they'll never be best friends on the show because RT likes the angst and the OPJ Logan too much, I think, but at least JD is a big sappy shipper. That makes me happy.

Oh man. It's here.

Prepare to laugh and be embarrassed and awed by a very young JD. Seriously, as down in the dumps as I've felt lately, I could watch this and feel cheered up for a while by this hilarity. It's the definition of adorkable.

And yes, it is a bit embarrassing but he's young and I love that he's so willing to make a fool of himself.

Yes, I love how she reaches out to pull him back (when they're sitting there waiting) without even looking up -- she just knows. They are so MFEO!

I FINISHED WATCHING VM! SEASON TWO!
And, well, I have to say I saw it coming after I first heard the recording, but still. I really liked Beaver.
That depressing fact aside... I wish I saw more of the L/V reunion! AND! Where the hell is she going to college anyway? And are the screenwriters so stupid that they don't realise that Stanford gives REALLY GOOD need-based aid?
Also, why didn't Veronica give a speech at grad?
(is confused)
Plothole aside...
OMG CASSIDY!!!

Date: 2006-07-01 04:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
If she isn't a valeditorian (which I don't think she is), she won't be giving a speech. Maybe she did give it and we (thankfully) didn't see it. Since they didn't know if they were going to be renewed, they left her college status open.

Yes, the Stanford thing is a plothole. Any show transitioning to college will have it though. I do think that V will want to stay in Hurst not just because of the money. Her friends are there, and her Dad whom she almost lost, and Logan. (Funny how in RL almost no one stays in their hometown for college but in TV land, everyone does).

Yes. Poor Cassidy. OMG.
