Thoughts on VM season finale
May. 9th, 2006 10:15 pmEeee. Finale.
These started out as thoughts during the eps and evolved into an analysis.
So, Woody has chlamydia. Veronica has chlamydia. Connection? Someone has slept with both of them? I can't believe Duncan was molested, so was V with someone else? When? When she was unconscious during ATttD? Am I on crack? Hmmm.
OMG. Logan and not Duncan is Veronica's dream boyfriend. In her utopia dream, when she could have just as easily had Duncan as BF, it's Logan. Eeeee. And she is sweet and guileless.
Continuity porn! Alicia!
Isn't it bad for Woody to change meds? He'd die.
Jackie is a waitress? I don't care. And Wallace is a selfish jerk ditching his Mom after graduation to chase Jackie. ETA: Yeah, she has a kid, whatever. Too many twists, show. I guess it means she is off the show. Yay.
Logan's face as V graduates? Adorable. Perfect.
Weevil arrested during grad? As his dying grandma watches? Sad, but really cool from dramatic point of view.
Woody's 'explanation' of his molestation? Horrible. Also, does it mean Cassidy had sex with unconscious Veronica? (chlamydia connection) But then why does he have trouble performing with Mac?
Logan/Aaron scene? With Logan once again dependent on Daddy Dearest? Ouch. Aaron-Veronica scene? Also good. I love me some creepy slime-ball.
Oh. Come the FUCK on. Cassidy set up his father, crashed the bus, killed Curly, blew up Keith, framed Woody and raped Veronica. And he seems to get a kick out of it all. Yeah. What next, they forgot to give him horns? Totally unrealistic. With Aaron, all hints were in place, with this? That's just a cheap shock. Troubled kid seeking any way out I could buy. Kid with a chip on his shoulder? That too. Clever sociopath? No fucking way. Ugh. Cheap. And I really wish they didn't revisit ATttD which was my favorite episode and was perfect as was.
But. BUT. BUT. I don't FUCKING care. Because Logan. And Veronica. Logan running on the roof. And saving Veronica. And getting shot at. And Veronica and Logan taking Cassidy down together. And Veronica, hands trembling, all set to shoot Cassidy and Logan, Logan being the one to talk her down. Though the look on his face when Veronica, with tears in her voice, says to Cassidy "You raped me!" He pauses completely dead in his trying to talk her out of it. And then he does. And he holds her.
Cassidy's suicide? Actually, rather sad. And the look on V and Logan's faces? And poor Mac. It's clear that whatever else, he really liked her.
And then the shot in the Mars apartment, with Veronica sleeping in Logan's lap, and him sitting absolutely still. It's such a mirror reversal of the way the season began, of bloody and beaten Logan in V's lap. And then he cooks her beakfast. He is actually quite amazing at taking care of her. I think, in some ways, that's what he needs, someone to take care of. And then Keith, walking in after all. And the hugging, and the joking about finding Logan on the couch.
And then we find out that Logan is driving her to the airport for her trip, and they are going to "talk" and there is giddy kissing and I am screaming at my TV.
Duncan ordering the hit on Aaron? I screamed. All of a sudden, for the first time since Season 1, I am interested in his character: shades of grey galore. Beautiful. And I love that Veronica realizes that Logan's flippant reaction to Aaron's death is just a cover. I love them being unflappable in the face of Kendall's jeers. "I thought you didn't come out in daylight." Heeeee. V and L should be careful of their relationship though, every time something really big happens to jump start it and it must be sooooo exhausting :) Or Epic.
Hmmm, what did Kendall offer Keith? And is it to clear her of Aaron's murder? I'd imagine a lot of that money she just inherited. I don't think Keith really stood V up: but that cellphone of hers had no signal in the airport so he couldn't call her and tell her he wouldn't be coming.
And in conclusion. Logan! Veronica. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!
Hey, even if the show is not renewed, I could be at peace with where we are left at.

Date: 2006-05-10 02:36 am (UTC)All implausability? TOTALLY DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE IT ONCE AGAIN BLEW MY FUCKING MIND.
Seriously, all the clues made sense, and poor Mac, and oh my gosh I did not think that Beaver was going to jump off of the building. I love the pyschiological aspect of it, where all season Veronica was helping Cassidy with whatever, and he throws it all back in her face with the taser and the asking for the favor (which totally made my blood run cold) and trying to blow up her dad. I seriously thought that it could happen, and it was so well done I didn't really care if it didn't.
Logan. Wow. I also loved the pause when he found out about the rape, and when he took care of her, and they were kissing and Veronica finaly seemed almost happy again. I love him more than ever, and you know how much I loved him before.
I have never loved Duncan more. I love that while Keith and Veronica had to stand idly by, Duncan went out and did something. It sort of colors all of his actions in previous episodes.
Also. Veronica. Logan. Kissing. Me: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
I started bawling during the Wallace/Jackie scene, just because. Wallace does that to me: he makes me cry, regardless of what's going on in the scene.
Also, you didn't mention this, but I think one of the most awesome moments was while Veronica got her diploma. And she had this little acknowledgment moment with Clemmons, which I didn't think of before the episode, but just sort of realized I wouldn't feel complete without.
In conclusion? I'm never sleeping. Ever again. I'm just going to go around saying "Veronica. Logan. Beaver." for the rest of my life.

Yeah. I love Logan.

Date: 2006-05-10 04:01 am (UTC)The Logan/Veronica interaction was the highpoint of the show, and not just from a shippage standpoint. Their scenes were highly charged and well played. But from a ship perspective, OMG! So lovely!

Date: 2006-05-10 05:23 am (UTC)Yeah, I didn't really get that either. He can rape and kill people, but he can't sleep with Mac? I guess it's different when it involves someone you care about.
I screamed. All of a sudden, for the first time since Season 1, I am interested in his character: shades of grey galore.
I know! Duncan finally grew a spine. It was a great way to leave his character, if we never see him again. I always thought Duncan was most interesting during ATTD when he was acting shady, and I like to maintain that that's the real him, no matter how hard the show tried to convince us that he was perfect boyfriend material for the whole first half of this season.
Like you, I thought Beaver (no, I will not call him Cassidy) being responsible for so many things was a bit of a stretch and I didn't really like it, but I don't really care because even in her dreams, Veronica is with Logan. :)

Me too. And that makes him so much more interesting!

Date: 2006-05-10 01:03 pm (UTC)Total agreement. I'm just going to copy and paste what I just wrote in my own reaction post...
It would have been so much more affecting if he was so fucked up by what Woody did to him, so desperate to keep what happened secret, for his parents and Dick and his friends to not know that he was molested as a little boy, that he did something so unconscionable. It would have been tragic on so many levels. They could still have killed him off (sniff) if they wanted to, because his suicide really made so much sense, but making him so psychotic just feels like they've raped one of my favourite characters. Which, you know, appropriate in a sick way.
That said, Kyle Gallner was amazing in the scene on the roof and his final exchange with Logan made me squeak. That's the kind of emotion they could have got from the whole scene! Come on, this show has so much moral ambiguity on it, would it really have been that much effort to make a murderer a tad more sympathetic?
And you know, murderer or not, I still wanted to cry when he jumped. I'm going to miss him.

Me too. He wasn't a sociopath, he was someone tremendously damaged by what has been done to him. If it wasn't for Woody, he would have grown up a normal enough kid.
A purely evil guy wouldn't have jumped. He would have been like Aaron and taken his chances in court. His accusers would after all be Logan and Veronica, who after Aaron trial would totally be getting a rep of a boy who cried wolf.
But he couldn't face his abuse and the rest coming out.

Date: 2006-05-10 05:24 pm (UTC)The signs were there from the start of the season that there was something making Beav unhappy and the signs that he wasn't just the put-upon forgotten son but something much darker have been building for the last five eps. Sociopath? Totally -- as Wednesday says they "look just like everybody else" -- killing Curly was maybe a step further than I would have gone but, like the Alterna-Prom scene between Logan and Veronica, once Beav admits to raping Veronica at Shelly's party, there was this 'click' for me that made everything he'd done come into focus. Particularly diming Logan to Veronica last year and hiring her to look into Kendall -- I think running his father out of the country exceeded Cas's expectations in terms of revenge but rubbing Big Dick's nose in Kendall's affairs? That would be totally in keeping with Beav's set-his-brother-up-with-a-tranny idea of revenge. Also, how sorry do you think Beav was to see Cervando and Dick's boff-of-the-week go over the cliff along with Peter and Marcos?
I'd say B- for execution, A+ for plot-construction.

Date: 2006-05-10 05:26 pm (UTC)I do think Cassidy meant to run his father out of the country. He admitted to knowing what Daddy was up to. No way wouldn't someone as smart as he know that the properties were actually in Neptune. That was one heck of revenge.

Date: 2006-05-10 11:54 pm (UTC)Then there's the rape, which I still don't buy completely. And the Logan-saving. That didn't cheer me up much since I adore Beaver and hate that RT tried to force him into this little flat-character box that shouldn't have been there. Still, LoVe was cute. Damanaged and they still need to heal as a couple, but as induvisuals first. that's what he needs, someone to take care of. I'll buy that, but I still think Logan still has issues (drunken sex with Kendall after confessing epic-ness?) that need to be resolved.
Part of me feels too much was fixed in so short a time. RT has to revisit some of these "endings," some are little too convinent. Now that Woody, Beaver, and Aaron are dead, what's next?
Kendall and the Fitzpatricks, but I was never very intrigued by them.
