I am a bad bad fan. I am the kind of fan who the creators probably like just a bit more than the fans who write scented letters with "if you don't get together my OTP, I will sic my rabid cat on you" written in blood.

Why? Because of my incredibly short attention span and multitude of unconnecting obsessions, if it stops grabbing me, I am gone. No lingering and giving benefit of the doubt, hoping it would get better. Too many other things to obsess over.

What brought on this post? Veronica Mars. Two sucky episodes and a huge kerfuffle in the fandom from what I can tell and people who are frustrated about Veronica's character and the lack of L/V and the soapiness or a combo thereof and my reaction? I am going to give it one more episode and if it doesn't get better, that's it. Buh-bye show. I am not upset or excited or mad or anything. Just a huge drop in interest and a strong desire to watch/read something that will excite me more. People who stay in the fandom once it starts annoying them always surprise me a bit. Bitterness isn't fun. Heck, not being super entertained isn't fun. I have a limited amount of time and there way too many cool things in this world *coughanimecough*

I know there is a similar kerfuffle in the BSG fandom but surprisingly I like S2 just as much as I liked S1. But then my interest is largely intellectual and I never thought BSG was the best scifi show ever. Black Market wasn't that exciting but it was OK enough. And I always like the writing.

So, Veronica Mars you are on your last legs with me :)

In other news, Trigun continues to be as good as ever. So good. I am still confused as to how Vash defeated the Dread Space Pirate Roberts during their duel (as Vash can't kill and ended up all bleeding on the floor anyway from reopening his wounds) but whatever. That red coat certainly comes in handy in a Spartan-like fashion because it covers up when he is shot with red on red. Oh, and the fact that it's Milly and Meryl that rescued him for once is kinda cute. I also loved the fact that when he gets surprised in the corridor in that firefight, he is shot and wounded but he is freaking out about shooting a little too well at the other guys and he tries frantically to help them and he doesn't even care he is bleeding himself. Also, he has really freaky dreams about that woman with the long hair (and petals?). I bet she is Rem. Poor guy.

In yet other news, my copy of the DVDs of Hana Yori Dango has arrived. I am in love with the DVD cover which shows rejects from 1980s fashion, a girl in skin-tight purple leotards and leg warmers and various men dressed just as badly, my favorite being a guy wearing a black full-body leotard and a red shirt tied under his chest. My eyes are bleeding.

Re: VM, I wish I could be that way. I'm a loyalist. It really has to suck before I give up. I get emotionally attached to things that I'm fannish about.

I will be sorry to see you quit the show for selfish reasons, because I'll miss seeing your posts on it. I always enjoy your thoughts, even when I don't comment.

Well, I am not quitting yet. :P If I like this following ep I am back in. It doesn't have to be another ATttD to pull me back in. Just something I like rather than groan as I did with OAV and DR.

Well, I hope tomorrow night's is good, so you'll stick around. :) Plus, we're overdue for a good one.

That may be my favorite icon. [livejournal.com profile] porpentine made it.

Give it two eps. I like 13 better than 12. Well, I am super-sensitive to 1. "pull every black stereotype you can think of out of your ass" writing and 2. Wallace-based stories, so 12 is iffy for me. If neither bothers you, you might be ok. Love Wallace, but I don't like eps based on him, though Betty and Veronica is slightly bearable.

Well, you are the spoiler queen so I'll do as you say. :P I like Wallace OK, but you are right, Wallace-centric eps aren't very exciting.

Oh, god, that looks like the HYD movie. Which is completely not the same thing as the series. You did get the series, though, right?

Oh, I got the series, all 51 eps (which I will get to when I finish Trigun). But the covers on the DVDs for some weird reason, are from the movie. I am just happy that these DVDs, while they are all in Japanese, are numbered in English, so I won't have to do the Rurouni Kenshin thing and try to figure out the order going by guesswork. :P

Yeah, that would be Rem and the freaky dreams are justified. I like Milly and Meryl simply because they're two females who can hold their own in the anime world. I also love the growing relationship between them and Vash where at the end you realize they really all love each other and are close friends. Like I said, the series gets more serious as it goes, but by then you're already invested in the characters and you bleed along with them. I teared up in "Diablo" and "Vash the Stampede" and I bawled in "Paradise".

All I know is that if Vash dies at the end a la Spike from Bebop I will kill somebody.

You're not a bad fan...you're a more stable fan, honestly. I wish to GOD I could just pack it all in and forget about shows that disappoint me. But once a show has me in its sweaty clutches (ie. Roswell, VM) there's no escaping until the bitter end. Keyword being bitter, lol.

Heee. With Roswell I am so glad I discovered it on DVD as I would just forward past all the stuff I didn't care about and get on to the good eps and parts. If I had to watch S3 in Real Time I would have fallen asleep because Isabel always bored me and I certainly would have been breaking out about Max/Liz all of S2 but since I had the ff button and knew how it all ended, I ended up really enjoying it.

I just found out recently that two close friends of mine are big Veronica Mars/Serenity fans. I had no clue!!! Lol. And the first thing I thought of was you! :)

There was kerfuffling? Why didn't anybody call me *pouts*. What was it about?

I'm pretty petty and I move on quickly, too. Though for me it is less tied to a pairing but about a show getting stupid or boring in my eyes. I have like zero character or pairing or show loyality. I'd never sit through a bad show or storyline just to be loyal to a character or pairing.

I am an easy viewer. In most cases, I'll buy any ship or lack of ship if it's logical. It's not lack of L/V that is bugging me (as long as they have some interactions I am fine because they are fun to watch. But I can't root for a couple neither of whom is particularly interested in the other). It's the soapiness and clicheness and huge plot holes.

The kerfuffle was over whether VM has jumped the shark or not :P

See, I thought that VM and BSG were both sub-standard episodes. I guess you win some you lose some (as far as tv plots go).

I thought BSG was substandard too (still not my least fave, that would be S1's Water) but while it wasn't great, it wasn't bad: it was OK. VM has been running "bad" for a while now.

1) Yes and
2) Yes. And I'm the biggest VM fan that I know (well, IRL).

For what it's worth (which I guess isn't much), I thought tonight's episode of VM was a huge improvement upon last week's.
I think it's good that you can move on just like that, though. I can't. I get too attached. :P

Oh, it's worth a lot! I haven't seen it yet (plan on doing so tonight) as Husband wanted to watch it too and by the time he got home we both wanted to finish Trigun instead, but I am looking forward to it, actually.

Oh good. :) I think the problem with a show like this is it's better to watch on DVD where you can see all of it at once instead of waiting each week, where you might lose interest or forget what happens.
