I have to say it.
I do not understand Cally hate.
(for those who are wondering, I mean Cally Tyrol from Battlestar Galactica)
And I mean it. I don't mean 'I can see why people dislike her but don't share their opinion' as with Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi.
I honestly do not get it.
Cally is young, sure, but she is tough. She fought off a rapist by biting the guy's ear off! She recovered from being spaced in S3! She survived the occupation of New Caprica, etc etc etc.
She is a perfect sort of a Union wife, who is not afraid of toughing it out, or fighting, or even dying in that fight.
She is competent at her job.
Seriously, why?
Sure, she complains occasionally, but everybody on the show does that! And she complains much less than most (even though she wasn't even career military but it stuck in this job eternally)! Oh my God, how dare she voice, once or twice, that she wishes she had more time to spend with her husband and new-born son rather than working! Sacriledge. Horrors.
Wow, she voiced that desire (while still doing the work) thus she is loathsome. Because the rest of the cast are such obedient, uncomplaining little puppies.
OMG! She hates Cylons! Horrible. Unforgivable. Because how dare anyone hate the race which annihilated her entire world, her family, and almost everyone she knew.
I know, love and coexistence with Cylons is the new bright shiny of both the fandom and the writers, but my love for Athena notwithstanding, come on! How unrealistic is it that most of the mains seem to be OK with that. If I was one of the humans, I would be a lot more aggressive and hating than Cally, trust me. And so would any fandomer, I am sure.
Or is it (a subset of Cylon hate) that she shot Boomer? Come on. Boomer was a Cylon who she thought was a human. Not only is there a sense of betrayal, and the fact that she just shot the Commander, but...Cylon. Someone she is fully justified in hating.
Seriously.
I do not get Cally hate.
If you don't find her very interesting, OK, whatever. But why is she deserving of hate? Why is she whiny? Why?
