Veronica Mars overload
Oct. 2nd, 2005 11:54 pmI have watched 12 episodes today and am completely caught up. I have so many comments but my brain is fried. I love Veronica: bright, tough, smart. However, if I were a guy, I'd never date Veronica: she is either going to sneak into your private files (Duncan), accuse you of various felonies (rape: Logan, Duncan; murder: Logan, Duncan; drug dealing: Troy) or use you to get confidential info (Leo). Seriously. A guy is better off with a blow-up doll. :P
Also, poor fucked-up, suicidal Logan is so my new TV boyfriend. Smart mouth on him and he is so sweet to V. He actually tries to apologize and explain (when she thinks he raped her) and is willing to give her some space (when she tries to get him caught for murder) and comes clean to her at the end of "The Trip to the Dentist" re: GHB, even though he doesn't have to. I find the whole "he wants her to trust him" really sweet, especially since she thinks she does but she really doesn't, and the whole "I hurt you and I should protect you" is majorly awwww-worthy. He keeps taking her back (I guess it's a pattern with the guy: look at Lilly). Though I am a bit confused why Veronica bolted out of the bedroom when she discovered the video surveillance. So, his guest house has video recording? So? I am confused.

You can see why I get so gutted at the thought that she blows him off even temporarily in season 2 - he's been through so much but I think ultimately - one day they'll be together. The writers just so enjoy making Logan suffer.

he's been through so much
The thing that surprised me is that not only does he keep taking her back, he is the one making the first moves. I mean, look at this:
I.
a. they make a date and she blows it off completely (that scene of him all alone on the boat really is a major "you want to pat him on the head" scene. I've een stood up before and it's the worst feeling. You get this anticipation and keep checking your watch and then yo get worried and then..basically it sucks).
b. She blows him off at school
c. At this point, I'd have a yelling match with whoever, but he shows up at her door wanting to find out what's wrong. He tries to explain and justify stuff(which he never does).
d. She accses him of raping/facilitating rape.
e. Then she finds out it wasn't him and presto: they are back together. No "work for it, Veronica" no "huh, you don't trust me, Veronica." Just smoochies.
II.
a. They are making out after he's openly called her gf and stood up for her in front of all 09ers. He goes to get a key she runs off and avoids him for a couple of days
b. She gives explanation that won't convince a 5 year old and he is kissing her forehead and telling her she can have space just tell him first etc.
III.
a. They are dating and she turned him in to the cops for murder.
b. He has a fight with her on the beach and a little trip to the suicidal side.
c. Same night he shows up at her door. They are dating in early summer before she dumps him.
OK, how come I've never dated anyone so good at putting up with stuff? (My husband thought V should have had to work harder to get back into his graces each time, other than "forgive and forget." I guess it means I can't pull stunts like this with him huh?) It's really consistent with his behavior with Lilly too (there's indication all over S1 he knew she was the village bycicle). I think it's because he is so desperate for love and caring that as soon as he gets it anywhere, he just latches on and doesn't want to give it up. He really wants to believe it's real, this happiness with Veronica (and previously with Lilly) because he's never had it. His family has also taught him to overlook some major flaws: he clearly loved his mom, and she was a alcoholic, drugged headcase who let his father abuse him. I don't think his standards for the other person in the relationship are that high...
It's a pity he has so many issues after the end of S1 (understandably so) because as his behavior when he is dating V shows, there is a surprisingly sweet and caring guy buried in there and it's not his fault that his circumstances keep fucking him up.
