Just finished ep 1.06 of Veronica Mars.

Got a lot of thoughts on a lot of things later, but first? The scene with Logan and the belts? That's really hard to watch. And how creepy is that that Daddy makes him pick the belt (it doesn't look or sound like a spanking either, but a pretty nasty beating). And of course the creepiest thing about that scene is Mommy just sitting there like a Stepford Wife, with her glass of alcohol as her husband is beating her son. How maternal.

OK, that explains why Logan is so terrified every moment after he finds out that the footage of his bum fights things went on line. When he walks into the house and his father is waiting up? Never seen him be so...cringing. And when they are in the car together, he's pretty much shrinking into himself. Even with the hugs, he's trying to stay as far away as he can.

OK, that explains a LOT about Logan, actually.

What I like (wrong word, I know, but I can't think of a better one right now) about the whole Logan abuse thing is that it's a completely seperate storyline. The writers aren't trying to make his behavior towards Veronica alright or okay. They're just saying "this is why he is this way".
But, yeah, it is creepy.

Oh yes. I like it too. His behavior is explained but not justified.

The thing that I thing is horrible is his mother. Why doesn't she walk in there and try to stop it? Will see succeed ot not if she did it? Have no idea. But at least that way Logan would know that somebody cares about him.

Well, that's part of her character. Not that I think that is right, at all, but what is she going to do?
Wait, do you know what happens with her character? Because I think that with that, her behavior is explained but not justified as well. (Nice was of phrasing it, btw. I couldn't find the right words).

Ummm, at least try to stop it. Because seriously...that's just unacceptable. I'd intervene if it was a stranger, let alone my own family.

That also explains his rage in the 1st episode, when he asked Veronica if she knew what her prank (planting the bong in his locker) would cost him. I'm certain that he wasn't just grounded.

You know, I didn't think about it, but you are right. His rage there seems to be wholly disproportional to her actions, especially since in the later episodes he gets annoyed or into verbal wars with VM, but there isn't this blank rage. But now that I realize that he is in for a jolly evening of child abuse, that definitely explains it.

Also, what kind of person beats their child when the child is 17? Let alone from the little bit we saw, he just beats his back with a belt? That's not spanking or anything. That's just whaling on someone.
