The whole story is so sad and such a waste of all that Jedi, of all of Anakin's vast talent. But since Palpatine entered his life, the only purely good thing (outcome wise) he did was kill him. The enormity of such failure of such promise...

And the seduction? I am in the middle of it right now and it makes such perfect sense: when you combine Anakin's personality and his particular buttons + his dreams + PTSD which he has after all this combat + the fact that this is happenning so fast + lack of Obi-Wan + the fact that he hadn't slept in ages, which always makes you stupider...when you add in Palpatine, the kid has no chance. But the gradual distancing from Padme, as a result of his desire to protect her...argh...

More later...I have all these thoughts swirling around...

*sighs deeply* He was doomed the minute they took him away from Tatooine without taking Shmi as well. Actually...he was doomed the instant Padme walked into the shop. Sad.

I think without Palpatine being there, he would have been OK. Even without Shmi, without Qui-Gon. Even with Padme.

Heck, if one of a number of events went differently in RotS, he'd still be OK...that's what is so depressing.

That so often happens in life, too...If one little thing could be altered, things would be all right. Fiction is just easier to analyze.

Fiction is just easier to analyze.

But is also insanely frustrating as you see the characters running full-tilt toward the chasm and are unable to stop them...

Very, very true. I often find myself yelling at characters in books or movies because I know what's going to happen and I can't warn them. It's silly, really, but I always want to change things!

Oh I know. I ended up yelling at the book more than once. Usually it was "I hate you!" at Palpatine. My very amused husband's reaction (repeatedly) was "Duh. He is a villain." :)

I pity my husband as he has to sit next to me at the theater...

I think that if I have any kind of a heart at all, I should let everyone off the hook and see it by myself the first time around. Because I pity anyone who has to be with me!

LOL. But I know I have to see it at midnight and he wants to as well (other women drag their SOs to chick flicks. I drag mine to LotR, Matrix and SW). He was able to put up with me when we went for thr LOTR marathon (12+ hours in the theater) with me weeping the last solid hour, so he should be OK.

*grins* I think he will be okay, then!

Anyone who sat through ROTK with me should be all right at ROTS, but I hate to put them through my sobbing all over again. ;)

Hey, maybe they'll be sobbing themselves...

I guarantee you my mother will be. And my friends might join me, too. (The girls, anyway!) We all hobbled out of the ROTK theatre with our arms locked around each other. We're silly like that.

But that is a huge chunk of the fun: sharing the emotional experience...

Very, very true. Other fans make it much more worthwhile! :)
