Saw Lake House with Keanu and Sandra Bullock. Not a waste of my $7 but not anything I'd unequivocally recommend either. It dragged in way too many places and I was left with the familiar realization that Bollywood has ruined me for Hollywood's attempts at romance. It just that the two don't even compare. This said, I was dog-tired when I saw it, and even with all that Keanu was way too sexy (and when he sobs, his yum factor increases a hundred-fold), he and Sandra had great chemistry and I ended up sniffling a bit, like a pathetic girl that I am. Plus some scenes (the very last one, the one where they dance at a party, Sandra alone in a reslaurant etc) were lovely. So overall, fun, and I feel a Keanu picspam coming up. Plus, this movie is BEGGING for a Bolly remake (yes, I know it itself is a remake of Il Mare).

The Superman Returns trailer was wonderful. I can't say the same for some dreadful romcom with Jude Law and Kate Winslet. Will I see it? You bet.

The theater was pretty full for Monday, but there was only one man there :D

ETA: This has evoked a desire to rewatch The Matrix Trilogy. If I do so, expect a lot of pointless rambling, since those movies left me and Mr. Mousie talking for hours.

I love Jude Law and Kate Winslet, yet hate romantic comedies. What to do?

And that is indeed the root of my dilemma. Let's hope the review gods are kind and it's halfway decent...

Heck, who am I kidding? I saw Lake House. But it wasn't a rom com, only the 'rom' part and I can deal with that much better.

I'm dilemmified over that movie too-it had Jack Black, which is like a walking review in itself, but at the same time I like Kate Winslet, the plot looked okay, and believe it or not I've never seen a movie with Jude Law, and he always looks darn hot, so I'm curious. Still, I can't really expect it to be good, and I have a sinking feeling about it in general. But, in the words of dangermousie, will I see it? You bet.

I agree with your overall synopsis of The Lake House, except that I think overall I would recommend it. Those few scenes that you mentioned are just so beautiful and it's quite an unusual movie all around. (Plus the Keanu factor doesn't hurt.) And great chemistry. That dancing scene was purrfect-left me in a glow.

Yes, you are right. For people who like romantic movies and don't mind the inevitable bit of cheese, this was a good foray into the genre. Loved the dancing scene: she is so oblivious but she feels attracted to him anyway, he has all these other emotions and can't help but lean in to kiss her because it's such a stolen time. And I loved the very last scene. That was some hot kissing (loved her going 'you waited' and he doesn't even let her complete the sentence but swoops up on her).

I do wish it had a better screenplay because it had SO much potential.

Btw, hope you don't mind but I went to your lj and it seemed interesting so I friended you. You don't have to friend me back. And your post on b>Reality Bites is definitely inspiring me to rewatch it!

I guess that would mean the "lake house" is a "chick Movie" . I kind of got that from the trailers. Hey do you think I would like it, knowing what a romantic I am ?

Yup, it's definitely a chick flick. I do think you might like it. The love story is nice and the characters are good people and it's a lovelyt example of the genre.

I like Keanu Rives - I know he has limitations as an actor, but he is such a eye-candy! Sobbing Keanu is probably something I must succumb to..

He is definitely eye candy of the highest order! And I do admit he knows how to pick movies that are right for him.

I loved the Lake House. Keanu (one of my favorite hollywood men) and Sandra have great chemistry and i too was like "this is going to have a bollywood version in about 3 seconds" the entire time i was watching it.

Yes, this is BEGGING for a Bolly remake. I can just see SRK doing the angsting!

I saw The Lake House a couple days ago, and my only real gripe is the ending. Because it made no logical sense and broke my brain.

Otherwise it was decent. Decent. I think I like Keanu as the angsty!hero better, though. Plus, his version of sobbing always makes me laugh. No, I don't know why, but I just don't buy it.

I didn't see the trailers. Was there any James Marsden in the Superman Returns one? Mmmmm drool.

Yesss, it made my brain break. But I got to stare at Keanu for 2 hours, so I guess it's a small sacrifice. ;)
