I am soooo tempted to buy the novelization of SWIII (yeah, I have no shame). But I am torn. I am OK with being spoiled, but there is spoiled and spoiled, and this would be a whole other level of spoiled. Help meeeeeee!
Also, am so glad SWIII is PG-13. I understand that it might bug some people who grew up on the safe world of the OT, but Lord of the Rings and the Matrix were my generation's movies, so I love the darkness inherent in Anakin's fall from grace (much as it breaks my heart) and am glad it will be done graphically enough. You *need* PG-13 to do it justice.
I have a perfect geek marriage. Sample of marital conversation yesterday:
Me: I want to rent a movie. Feel like getting Alexander for the FF button and to mock?
Husband: I think it would be fun to rent Clone Wars sometimes.
Me: We have it. I bought it.
Husband: No, I meant the cartoons.
Me: I know. I bought it.
Husband: when is it going to get here?
Me: It's in the house. Wanna watch?
Husband: Yay.
Me: I love the fact that you don't mind I am geeky.
Husband: Are you kidding? I love it. A lot of guys's girls wouldn't like that stuff at all because it's scifi or uncool.
Us: watch Clone Wars and have geeky discussions re: Jedi.
*happy sigh*
Also, decided to check out Clive Cussler's book "Sahara." As far as thrillers go, he could be a worse writer, but boy is he into self-insertion. Dirk Pitt is his "sexy" (i.e. Bondian ergo boring) alter-ego. It's written well enough that I'll not call it a Gary Stu, but it's pretty close. Especially if you read Cussler's biography on the back.

Date: 2005-04-12 04:03 pm (UTC)My husband doesn't care for Bollywood. He doesn't mind it too much ocassionally, but he is always happier when I am on my scifi kick.
Btw, love the icon!

because it's so rare in a girl
So true. I was shopping once, and I bought a whole bunch of things. One of them was AotC DVD. When I took the stuff to the check out couter of Borders, the sales person asked me if I wanted AotC (and only AotC) giftwrapped. I guess girls can't like SW :D

Date: 2005-04-12 04:29 pm (UTC)We had torture. We had charred smoking corpses. We had dismemberment. We had impalement.
You get into Indy, we had exploding heads, melting faces, mummies, more impalement. The second movie, with beating hearts being ripped out of chests getting a PG rating singlehandedly created the PG-13 rating.
The Beastmaster: decapitation, rotting corpses hung out on wheels, trees of corpses, A soup of human body parts. And PG rating
By my standards, LotR did not need a PG-13, even RotK. I doubt RotS will either, but everyone is erring on the side of safe.

Haven't seen Beastmaster though...

Date: 2005-04-12 05:00 pm (UTC)As for Raiders in today's climate, it would ahve to cut a bunch of stuff to get a PG-13. It is FAR more graphic than RotK. There is a LOT more blood in Raiders. (Go watch the end bit again) In RotK, we got the quick stab and move on school of fighting.
Of course, I remembered naked!Danae in Clash of the Titans and Perseus decapitating Medusa so her headless, naked corpse falls over, very slowly, and the blood pools like tomato sauce out of her truncated neck. Yep, PG.

Date: 2005-04-12 11:59 pm (UTC)That's too cute! I hope when (a long time from now...hehe) I get married, my husband and I can do that, too! Whee!
And I completely agree - I don't think that the film would have been done effectively without the intensity that obviously led to the PG13 rating. It doesn't bother me at all. The LOTR films were beautifully done and not overly graphic, but the stories necessitated a stronger rating and I think this last SW film does, too. (Actually, I kind of wish GL had developed the first two episodes more, even if it had meant PG13 for them, too. He edited down AOTC to avoid that.)
I'm so glad to know I'm not the only girl (and a real girly-girl, no less!) that also loves Sci-fi. That makes me smile!

I am about halfway through RotS and I want to smack Anakin (and then give him a hug) and decapitate Palpatine...
