Today's movie rec and pic spam of the day is Kal Ho Na Ho. It's a fun, funny, tongue-in-cheek movie that turns melodramatically heart-breaking and which I adore. It's not a masterpiece but a movie I can rewatch ad nauseam. And it's set in New York City.
The story revolves around Naina (Preity Zinta), a twenty-something New Yorker, whose life is rather bleak: her father is dead, her mother and her grand-mother fight continuously, she is afraid of loving and losing, and the restaurant run by her mother is about to fold. The only bright spot in her life comes from her best friend, Rohit (Saif Ali Khan), but her life changes dramtically when a new neightbor, Aman (Shahrukh Khan) moves in and turns Naina's quiet neighborhood and Naina's world itself upside down.
The music is great, the characters are too, the story is witty and funny and angsty. And Saif and Shahrukh have a great chemistry. I love it.

Date: 2006-06-02 02:55 am (UTC)I am on a SRK kick, right now. I was too tired to rewatch KHNH emotional rollecoaster, so am rewatching One Two ka Four. SRK as the sexiest cop ever can arrest me any time :P

Date: 2006-06-02 03:12 am (UTC)It's funny because the first time I saw it I liked it, but wasn't crazy about it. And then every time I saw it I liked it better and better and now I love it and it's infinitely rewatchable.
I didn't understand the love for it the first time at all. Rewatches always get to me! Or maybe it was the Preity-hate mellowing. I don't know why I used to have such a problem with her, but it's become one of my favorites since then. It's funny. I like the music. SRK! Saif! And scenes like the one on the bridge and in the train station. *sniffle*

Date: 2006-06-02 07:02 am (UTC)I actually didn't like this movie all that much just on the grounds that NOBODY would pick Sharukh over Saif. But I am a very loyal Saif fangirl.
The music is good, though.
