You have NO idea how much I love that they have their main characters wear a helmet. One thing that bugged me about LotR was that Aragorn's helmet was conspicuously missing. That's like painting your forehead with a "shoot me" sign:

I think directors have a thing about their good looking stars having their head all covered up, historical accuracy or no. I appreciate Ridley Scott on that count. He's more than willing to make his good looking stars look bad or cover them up at certain points. In Black Hawk Down it was hard to tell one actor from another under all the grim and buzz cuts, but the movie notably had Orlando, Eric Bana, Ewan, and Hugh Dancy all in it. I understand that Edward Norton is in this movie somewhere under the silver mask and Orlando is fairly consistant with his helmet wearing.

He generally likes his women stunning though, with Lucilla in Gladiator, the girl in Legend, Eva Green in all her finery looking more than the part of queens most of the time.

According to what I've heard, though, Edward Norton's character has leprosy...so we probably want under the silver mask. Ridley does seem to favour helmets and armour, though, no matter what era he's covering.

I think worse than a mullet is the pothead look the majority of boys I know are sporting.
The guy with dreads was also a total jerk, so I didn't feel bad about hating him for his hair. :)
