Conmen conned by love. Yay!
Jul. 9th, 2007 11:14 amYes, I promise to reply to every reply left in lj by the end of today. But first things first ;)
My impulse buy, the mysterious Taiwanese drama with Dylan Kuo, turned out to be a good thing, like impulse buys sometimes are. I ended up watching first episode on the train ride home last night and eeeeee! LOVE. I am not having too much trouble following the plot despite the lack of subs, either, because I found a synopsis ;)

I found out that it is called Coming Lies or Stealing Day and also stars Sammo Hung and Terri Kwan. And the plot? Is so one of my total kinks. Think Kurosagi/Liar Game only as light and romantic. A con-man being romantically conned by his own heart is about the best thing there is :)
Our protagonist, played by Dylan Kuo, has been trained to be professional high-stakes swindler since he was first found wondering the streets without name or family at the age of six by the renown older swindler played by Sammo Hung. Now, twenty years later, Cash (as he is known) is very very good indeed at his job, working with a steady team consisting of himself, his ‘Dad,’ a spunky female character whose name I am not clear on but who will have an OTP with the fourth member of the team, their tech support guy.
He can trick men and women (especially women :P) who have too much anyway quite easily, his lifestyle is quite nice, and the team comprises a family, however odd. However, one evening, while going home, he meets the adorable, spunky, poor, and oh-so-utterly-uninterested-in-his-killer-looks heroine, played by Terri Kwan. Tarri is the illegimate daughter of a rich man who refuses to acknowledge her, so she spends her life doing millions of odd jobs. Cash (who is always just a little too naïve for the game, despite his technical proficiency) is not only smitten at first sight, he is also touched, and decides to help her out.
Little does he know that this is actually a trap, and he is actually the mark. Can love make a crook go straight? Can two con-artists genuinely fall for each other? Seeing that this is a fluffy, delicious Taiwanese drama, I am betting the answer is yes.
There are gorgeous men and women, dressed to the nines. There is secret family history, and fighting, and heists, and kissing in the rain. There is the girl faltering in her plan as she falls for the guy she is supposed to trick. There is the trickster guy giving up all his secrets for the girl he loves. There is fun, and cool design, and to top it off, a smidgeon of angst. And a happy ending. Seriously, it was already worth the money: I actually found a story where Dylan Kuo doesn’t die or angst horribly throughout.
I love my new GOMplayer as it allows much better, quicker screencaps. Here are caps from ep 1:
