Veronica Mars last night was a solid ep, with a good MotW and some fun character stuff and some more on the season mystery.

But still, I can’t just get into it as much any more. Once I fall out of obsessiveness for something, it’s hard to get back to that baseline again, so it’s taking some time.

First off, Logan, the haircut? Love it. Boys with very short hair are soooo…military? :P I have to say, no fear for Logan/Hannah OTP, as Hannah seems nice but a bit dim. Also, come on. If a guy is that much in control and has lines that ‘smooth’ I’d definitely know to be worried and my radar will go off. But hey, I am not 16, so OK.

I loved the Logan/Veronica snark in the beginning. “We are all out of liquid evil.” Heh. I have largely lost interest in them as a ship (I have no patience for long-drawn-out ‘will they won’t they’ games TV creators like to play, unless the whole show is over and I can marathon it), but it’s fun to see the interactions.

I lurve Jackie. Never thought I’d say this. But she has guts in the face of adversity and it’s hard not to root for the underdog (which is why I am less invested in Veronica this season. She is establishment now). Love that Wallace helped her out and that she bonded with Veronica. Yay.

Mac/Beaver? My new VM ship. So much geek love. Though I am beginning to worry. What was with the Beav’s mention of Suzie that shut Dick right up? Is there something not right with Cassidy? Please don’t make him the bus killer. I like him.

We learned some more of the bus crash mystery during Keith/Terrence scenes but I wasn’t too interested in those myself because boo-hoo, your fave sports star threw a game. I am not a sports lover in any fashion so my knee-jerk reaction was “Umm, he is good at throwing balls. That’s it. Why would it make him any better at anything else, or a role model?”

And Weevil stole the money. And Veronica didn’t turn him in. Yay.

I am also watching Meteor Garden, a live-action Taiwanese adaptation of Hana Yori Dango and having a blast.

In this version, Shan Cai is a ‘poor’ student at a fancy, rich-people-only college, just trying to get by in a snobby school ruled by “F4” the group of 4 sons of the richest families. If you offend them, they put a red tag in your locker and 10 times out of 10 people just quit school, because otherwise the whole school would just gang up on them. Shan Cai, who is being sent to that school because her family wants her to snare a rich guy hates the F4, except those feelings are complicated by the fact that she likes Lei, the quiet, introverted one of the group. Well, one day, Shan Cai’s friend spills paint on Dao Ming Si (the ringleader of the group) and when he is rude to her as she is trying to apologize, Shan Cai finally loses her explosive temper and says quite a few not-so-nice things about Dao Ming Si and F4 to his face. Next day? She gets a red tag, but she just won’t quit, bullying or not (the physical bullying is tamed down here a lot from the anime, understandably so as I don’t think it could work with real people). In fact, she declares war on the F4 which actually leads to Dao Ming Si beginning to admire her for her spirit and, to cut the long story short, he falls in love with her.

Problem. She hates his guts. Problem. He never had to put any efforts into wooing a girl, so he just doesn’t know how to sweet-talk or anything. He is downright rude. Problem. He looks down on poor people. Problem. She likes his best friend. Problem. He has a mother from hell who isn’t keen on his developing a thing for a girl not of his class. Problem. He has a devil of a temper. Problem. So does she. So, do they get together at the end? What do you think?

It’s a bit surreal to see real people act out what I’ve just so recently seen in an anime but some scenes are even funnier because of that. Like the scene where Dao Ming Si visits Shan Cai when she is sick with a cold and her parents don’t know who he is so they are all indignant because why is he here, and what is it with his weird hair, and weird clothes and evil eyes :P And then Shan Cai throws some oil on the fire by saying that he is the one who bullied her and made her sick so the parents get really indignant and are all ‘who do you think you are, what is your father’s name so we can call and complain’ and Dao Ming Si gives them his father’s name and the Dad is all “don’t mumble” and so the guy repeats and then the parents realize just who this is and it’s utterly hilarious as they outdo themselves bowing and scraping and ask him to stay for dinner and basically, it’s worse than Mrs. Bennet squared and he is kinda bemused.

I have also just realized that his and hers ways of paying compliments or expressing concern is scarily similar. He’s come to see her because she is sick, which is sweet, right? Well, it is, except for the fact that the words he uses are “only an idiot would catch cold in summer.” ROFL (of course, this is from the guy who’s had her kidnapped to give her…a spa treatment). And the way he compliments the parents for the food? “Even though your house is smaller than my pond and this table is smaller than my bathtub, the food is very nice.” And the amusing thing is he isn’t being mean or anything, he just doesn’t know how to interact in a proper fashion with ‘poor people’ Of course, this reminds me of Tsukushi’s (in the anime) moment when she thinks he’s died and she is all weepy and “don’t die, I don’t want you to die, even though you are horrible and have an annoying personality and lots of people would be happy if you died.” ROFL. Match made in heaven. Though I do wonder about his obsession with leather pants. The rest of the F4 wear ‘you can’t go wrong’ combo of white shirts/sweaters and some kind of pants, so it's not as if it's a general thing. My shippy radar is getting a bit thrown out of whack by the fact that the girl who plays Shan Cai and the guy who plays Lei were the leads in one of my favorite guilty pleasures, Taiwanese adaptation of Mars so it’s weird to see them not a couple.

I am also continuing in my watch of Fushigi Yuugi, and actually, it’s giving me some kind of cognitive dissonance to marathon two things at once, so I’ll need to stick to one or the other. I am on ep 11 now, and I like the show quite a lot. I like Miaka (and don’t care who knows it! :P) and I totally want to take Tamahome home. So much pretty angst.

oh i love Meteor Garden. that started my whole asian obsession (japanese, chinese, korean) for me. hehe. one of my fave MG scenes is when Dao Ming Si does his "new york turn around" and he finally rids himself of that pineapple hair. :D

their clothes in MG were horrible, but the production company said they were in a very low budget, and they didnt expect that it would be a hit. XD

Oh, of course. I'll add you right back.

The clothes don't bother me as much as they could have because I am a long-time watcher of Indian (Bollywood) movies and the clothes there have to be seen to be believed.

Meteor Garden is sooooo addictive.

Btw, have you seen Mars? That's what started my interest in those lovely Taiwanese live-action adaptations/soaps. I really recommend it (I went nutty for it a few weeks back and wrote reams and reams of stuff on it (it's tagged under "mars"). So good, so angsty. And it stars two of the people from Meteor Garden.

Relevant, for once!

Eh, I kind of don't like the haircut. I really liked Hannah, she was sweet and normal. And I would totally have fallen for Logan. I was kind of falling for him last night.
I love any Logan/Veronica scene, really. "They make fifties now?" "Had them made special". It normally bugs me to hell when people use adjectives instead of adverbs, but it's just adorable on him.
I've been really liking Jackie these past two episodes. That dunk tank thing with Wallace was so...Wallace, you know? I still love Veronica as much as ever, though.
Beaver/Mac is my favorite fictional couple ever. (Just check my entry if you need proof). When we first saw them holding hands, I literally jumped off the couch and squealed. I love them!
I can personally identify with loving something random for no reason, so I was almost crying when Keith found out about the thrown game. Do you know that feeling, where you know that it isn't your fault, but your gut or whatever is telling you that it really is? When you finally come to terms with the whole "not being your fault" thing, the strongest emotion is betrayal. Poor Keith. He's just such a dorky father figure, with the foam finger and such, and I hate thinking of anything letting him down.

Hannah was OK but not very interesting. Normal, well-adjusted 16 year olds don't make for fun watching.

And I would totally have fallen for Logan. I was kind of falling for him last night.

Really? If a guy used lines like that on me, I'd think he was too smooth and leave.

When we first saw them holding hands, I literally jumped off the couch and squealed.

Ohhh, I love them too.

I don't think I really cared that he was using lines. I mean, I'm amused, he's cute, what's not to like?
Also, that's just how people I know talk. I didn't even realize they were lines.

I love that scene when he goes to meet her parents - they're so appallingly obsequious and when Shan Cai's s mother hits her with the fry pan. I ordinarily don't laugh at slapstick but the frypan to the head was just so unexpected that I started howling :D Also in the outtakes on my dvd, they show how the actress missed her queue the first time and then got the giggles, then the second time she basically says: "I can't hit her - she's so cute" :D Because the actress who plays Shan Cai really is very doll-like :)

Their compliments are very funny and it takes Shan Cai a long time to figure out she likes Dao Ming Si although he figures it out much earlier. As to the actor who plays Lei - well they are sort of together for a little bit and go out so you do see them together but they're not quite 'right' for each other although Lei goes thorugh a really strange attitude shift during the series.

Also his outtakes and bloopers are the most hilarious because he was a first time actor - I think he was originally an engineer or something so had no clue about acting. :)

When they do that little song and dance number to 'greet' him? I couldn't stop giggling in horrified glee.

Shan Cai's s mother hits her with the fry pan. I ordinarily don't laugh at slapstick but the frypan to the head was just so unexpected that I started howling

And when Shan Cai, incredulously goes "did you hit me with a frypan?" and Mom replies "what else should I hit you with?" and Shan Cai replies "it's greasy" and Mom? She says "well, it can be conditioner." I died.

As to the actor who plays Lei - well they are sort of together for a little bit and go out so you do see them together but they're not quite 'right' for each other although Lei goes thorugh a really strange attitude shift during the series

Hmmmm, interesting. In the anime they go on a date or two but it never works out because they just aren't compatible. He does have a gradual character change which I liked. He gets a bit more involved with the world and willing to deal with his feelings but he is still pretty reserved and spaced-out and odd. Which is cool. And I am so happy he gets his OTP at the end of the anime.

I think he was originally an engineer or something so had no clue about acting.

Heeee. But he is so pretty, I don't care :P

Now I have visions of you being like Brain in Dark Angel - watching 10 television sets at the same time :) You are pretty amazing with all the viewing you get through plus holding down a job! I'm starting work again in March and don't have much faith in my ability to continue to glom!

Also if you haven't seen it yet - the new Dr Who should be added to your list :D I was sceptical but there is much angst and love in that series. :)

I haven't seen Dr. Who. I've heard great things about it, but those low-budget trashcan villains I've seen on late night on PBS are kinda an inhibitor.

You are pretty amazing with all the viewing you get through plus holding down a job!

Well, going to bed late and having to go through the day zonked will do wonders for you.

*laugh* I'd skip the old series and just jump straight to series 27 with Christopher Eccleston and then David Tennant - the production values are higher and there are no rubbish bin villains :D Ordinarily I wouldn't keep recommending shows to someone who already has so much on her plate but well ... it's you.... :D I used to think I was eclectic but now I know I am but a padawan ;)

Heh, a couple of the comments I've read about this ep have been all about Logan's hair. :P Some thought he shouldn't have cut it, some thought it looked good. I have to confess that I didn't notice anything different on first watch, but I like it.

I wouldn't say I love Jackie...yet. I like her more than I did a few episodes ago, but she was still mean to Veronica and I tend to hold a grudge.

(which is why I am less invested in Veronica this season. She is establishment now)
Hmmm, I hadn't thought of it like that. Interesting observation.

Is there something not right with Cassidy? Please don’t make him the bus killer. I like him.
I like him too. I don't think you have to worry, I can't imagine him doing it.

The best line for me was "What's your poison?" "Emotionally unavailable women." Hee.
