Some more thoughts on last night's stellar, stellar ep!
I find it interesting how Veronica and Logan form their own "group" without Duncan. If you think about it, they could easily have their interactions in the hotel suite. I mean, Logan lives there, with Duncan. Nothing prevents Logan from catching V when she is over at the suite and asking her (in front of D) for help. But instead he "lures" her to the bathroom, the same one they made out in. And Veronica could just as easily give him the info next time she is in the hotel room, as opposed to having him come over when she is babysitting (how tellling. Meg has a boy over for necking, and Veronica for sleuthing), and not telling Duncan about it, either. (Though she did try to tell D about the bathroom). Veronica and Logan are building their own Duncanless space.
And of course, a good chunk of the reason V is mad at Logan at the start of the bathroom scene is because she is jeaaaaaalous of Kendall. And Logan, while trying to ask for help, of course does it all wrong. But the thought of him actually designing and printing that Out of Order sign and lurking in the bathroom, waiting for V to notice is beyond cute. Just as cute as the fact that V can't but help him, and the Logan's hurt at her initial rejection shows through. I love my ship.
Also, a thought on Meg's abused sister. I don't think Meg or Lizzie were subjected to this: after all, Meg was a saintly happy girl and Lizzy a wild child. I think this is a recent "improvement" of the Mannings. Maybe they got extra religious, maybe after seeing one of their daughters (Lizzie) becoming wild and another (Meg) have a potentially inappropriate relationship with a boy, they decided to tighten the screws. That would also give Meg an additional reason to turn from sweetness and light into snarky, bitter thing of "Normal is the Watchword." And I think, indication that Meg and Duncan used to make out during her babysitting sessions (as I thought even before the Fullers' commments, because Duncan rattled off those babysitting assignments really quickly) is really significant: Duncan doesn't seem to have much interest in pawing Veronica, but he obviously had no such problems with Meg, so I guess his lack of interest isn't a Duncan thing, it's the fact that he is not so much into V and is just trying to recreate the past. Hmmmmm...And I think V is realizing this, just as she is discovering Duncan likes keeping secrets. She is seeing cracks in her fake plaster paradise.
Maybe Duncan just has a thing for unavailable women. He didn't have too much interest in V in S1 except when she was dating others (Troy, Logan). He chased her when she was Logan's gf. Now he has her and seems not clear on what to do with her. The same with Meg. He chased her and then he left her for V, but now she is in a coma and he is always at the hospital because I'd imagine that's poster book unavailable. Duncan is a messed up boy. I kept wondering why the turtleneck (to hide the hickeys Kendall gave him?). My husband's response? "To hide the barcode." Heeee.
On the babysat families: I think the Fullers were interesting. It's pretty clear only Mom is the anal neat-freak. Dad likes his joints and the kid obviously has some isssues but learned to obey. And the scene at the Goodmans? Assuming the mother didn't just take Rodney for some quiet time, we have a mirror situation of the one Logan grew up in. One abusive parent and one parent who completely non-interferes and stands by. And we also have only the boy being abused, while the older daughter is completely unscathed (else how to interpret Gia's clueless comments about Rodney spilling water).

Oh, the Fullers creeped me out. I think the Dad was coming on to Veronica. Wants to have her out to the boat to "fool around." I think the whole family has become expert at pretending to be what they are not.
As for the Goodmans, I was wondering if what Dad was reporting to Mom was not the spilling of the water but the freaking out about it. I felt traces of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in the family. Another possible parallel with a family we know, i.e. the son has a disorder that the family is trying to hide.
I am glad you think Logan made himself a new sign. For a moment I thought he might have saved the old one.

Oh, that's a great observation (and he did have those envelopes really neatly lined up). That would make a lot of sense...

I'm not sure that there was abuse going on in the Goodman household. I got the impression it was supposed to be a red herring and that there is something else going on there. I could be wrong though...

Date: 2005-11-17 11:56 pm (UTC)I think this is a reasonable assumption. It's hard to picture Meg coming out of a situation like was happening with her younger sister as well-adjusted as she seemed to be. It's possible that Lizzie's acting out and Meg's accident have driven the parents to extremes, and that may explain why they were so hostile to Duncan--if they felt like Meg's accident was some kind of punishment for sin, Duncan could be wrapped up in that feeling. This episode was also a really solid indication--to us and to Veronica--that Duncan was far more involved with Meg than he's let on up to now.
