Title: Perfect, 1/1
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Summary: Kendall Casablancas loves her life.
Disclaimer: Don't own, no profit...
A/N: Kendall and Logan, 401 words. Spoilers for 2.01.
Kendall Casablancas loves her life. She loves the chauffeur, and the parties, and the house big enough to need a map. She loves sitting by the pool, and the taste of margaritas in the morning, and the ritual of her credit card handed across the counter in an expensive shop.
She likes Big Dick, who is certainly nothing if not thorough, in business and in bed. She likes parading in the skimpiest bikini she can find in front of her stepchildren, who are certainly nothing if not friendly. She likes the looks the gardener gives her as she leans down from her window in the morning, only half-dressed.
True, she is slightly bored on weekday afternoons, but hey, happiness comes with a price tag and no happiness is perfect. And she always finds ways to amuse herself, after all.
When she walks down to the pool one random morning, there is no one there but that mouthy friend of her children. With no one around, he is quiet for a change. He stares at the water as if he can uncover something in it, and from the look on his face, whatever he's thinking isn't pleasant. Not that is matters to her, of course. She is not interested in soul-searching or problems, and a strange kid is no exception to the rule.
He's not bad-looking though, and the afternoon is hot and long, and her shopping is done for the day. She decides to take a risk, but it's a small one. Teenage lust is so easy to spot. Besides, better him than Dick.
She walks over to where he is sitting and leans over. He is startled but surprise quickly slides into knowledge as she kisses him, hard. He kisses her back, and she discovers he is more experienced than she would have thought, and she is pleased. When she breaks off the kiss to take off her bikini top, she has a momentary impression that he looks lost. Vulnerable. She shrugs it off. She is hot and he is young. His private concerns are (thankfully) none of hers. Her top is on the ground next to his chair and she kisses him again. Tongue this time. His hands slide on her back (sun lotion, smooth skin, clever fingers) and she is much less bored.
He'll definitely do, she thinks as his hands drift lower. Perfect happiness? Does it matter?

Date: 2005-10-07 03:50 am (UTC)Is it weird that Kendall/Logan doesn't bother me at all, despite the fact that I still love V/L.
I would love to read your hallway fic too, if it ever materializes. I adored that scene.

Date: 2005-10-07 04:33 am (UTC)It doesn't bother me at all either, because there is clearly no feeling at all on either side (the sex scene with the talking? There is ZERO emotion there), and besides, Logan is the one who got dumped. If he was just pining it would be too much of a power imbalance.
The hallway scene was the best part of "Driver's Ed." I just find Logan/Veronica so hard to write because I love them so much.

Date: 2005-10-07 05:02 am (UTC)The one thing I did not want, and thankfully we haven't seen, is Logan pining over Veronica in a morose way. There is definitely emotion there, on both sides, but it's subtle.
Their relationship was imbalanced from the beginning, and Veronica really has screwed him over several times. I wouldn't mind a bit of jealousy on her part, or even an attempt at reconciliation that is rebuffed at first.
Good L/V fanfic must be hard to write. The writers have done such a good job with their relationship on the show that it's hard to top with fic. I tend to like fanfic with relationships that are ignored or poorly done in canon.
I sort of hate that I'm such a shipper. I can't help myself though. Their 10 second scene last night was the best part of the show.

Date: 2005-10-07 05:21 am (UTC)See, me? I am shallow ALL the time :P
I do agree that V/L relationship has been awfully imbalanced. He was almost co-dependent on her and kept running back for more even after she a. stood him up on a date b. accused him or rape he didn't commit c. ran out on him without explanation right after he just stood up for her in front of all 09ers, d. turned him in for the murder he didn't commit.
That's just not healthy. I think it has to do with his self-esteem (or lack thereof) due to Aaron's lovely parenting and his desperation for affection, as he has none so when anyone shows him any, he'll put up with a whole truck-full of bad treatment in order to get more (it's a pattern he was in with Lilly too). The guy is used to being treated like dirt by his nearest and dearest so he has no real notion of how "normal relationships" are supposed to get.
There was one heck of a power imbalance, and I like that while he is still clearly not over her, he is past the grovel mode. He needs that for a relationship to work long-term.
I can't help myself though. Their 10 second scene last night was the best part of the show.
I am a huge shipper too, and yes, that L/V scene? Sigh. The reason I love them is because they can pack so much emotion into such a short space!

Date: 2005-10-07 05:49 am (UTC)I love Veronica, but right now, I'm not feeling the love quite as much. She and Duncan are a snoozefest. But I continue to love the way JD portrays Logan, as well as how the writers write him. I adore that snarky asshole with the cotton-candy soft center.
They really do know how to make their few seconds of screen time together count. That little scene was 10-15 seconds tops, and yet it had more sizzle and tension than all the other romantic scenes combined. You can't buy that kind of chemistry. JD and KB sparkle together, no matter what the scene.

Date: 2005-10-07 01:53 pm (UTC)Exactly. When you "reform for someone else, you will definitely backslide. He really has to do it on his own because that is so much healthier.
He does seem willing to put up with any kind of treatment to keep his girlfriend happy.
You know, I think I am going to do a whole entry on how any girlfriend of his should write a thank-you letter to Aaron and Lynn for fucking him up so badly because it turns him into a perfect doormat when the girls are concerned...

Except for the parts where they make out and I want to bleach my brain :P
I do like the old, bitchy Veronica and want her back.

Heck, yeah. I didn't rewatch it or anything :)
