I think Before Sunset s the most romantic, beautiful, truthful movie I've ever seen. Even better than Before Sunrise to which it is a follow-up. It's painful and hopeful and so real. I can see myself talking that way, being that way. The story of two people who run into each other eight years after a night in Vienna that neither has been able to let go of, it's just like nothing else. And there is no scene I love as much as Jesse's breakdown in the car.

Jesse: Then I...I have these dreams.
Celine:What dreams?
Jesse: I have these dreams, you know, that...I'm standing on a platform, and... you keep going by on a train, and...you go by, and you go by, and you go by, and I wake up with the fucking sweats, you know? And then I have this other dream, oh... where you're...pregnant, in bed, beside me, naked, and I want so badly to touch you, but you tell me not to, and then you look away. And...and I... I...I touch you anyway, right on your ankle, and your skin is so soft, and I wake up in sobs, all right? And my wife is sitting there, looking at me, and I feel like I'm a million miles from her and I know that there's something...wrong! You know, that I ca...that I can't keep living like this, that there's gotta be something more to love than commitment...But then I think that...I might have given up...on the whole idea of romantic love. That I...I might have put it to bed, that...that day when you weren't there. You know, I think I might have done that.
Celine: Why are you telling me all this?
Jesse: I'm sorry. I don't know, I'm...I should... I...I shouldn't have.

I was just rewatching this movie, and Oh God, how can anything with even no kissing in it be so romantic?

I don't fucking know, but the entire universe is consipiring to remind me that true love exists this week.

And you know what? I kind of had a little crush on Ethan Hawke after Reality Bites. ... hello netflix. :)

Because seriously, I'm enough of a news junkie to know how often the universe conspires to remind us about evil and pain and betrayal and cruelty and the fact that it doesn't care whether we live or die....

Nice to get reminders of the true love as well.

I need to see this movie. Wow.

Okay, unrelated to the movie, but related to your username: Today in some class, we were discussing Dangermouse. I don't remember why, but it was brought up.
Random Guy: I love Dangermouse. It's legit. *does gangsta hand symbols*

So rest easy, [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie, for you are, indeed, Legit.

It is a brilliant movie. I do recommend watching "Before Sunrise" first. You can watch and enjoy "Before Sunset" on your own, but it's so much more resonant with Sunrise as a precursor.

I haven't seen the movie. Does he stay with Celine or go back to his wife???

Yeah, he stays with Celine. The whole movie is them wandering around Paris, talking, before he has to catch his flight home. And at the end, he is sitting in her apartment, and she tells him, imitating Nina Simone, whose CD they are playing "Baby, you are gonna miss your flight" and he smiles this incredible smile and goes "I know" and the movie closes on him sitting on her sofa and her swaying to the music, in the kitchen, a bit. I love this movie.

OK will definitely keep my eye out for it plus the first one since you have tickled my fancy with your post :)

By the way, I haven't kept up with VM but want to download the LoVe heavy eps to watch :) Apart from the finale - what are the other episodes that are good from a LoVe point of view? Yes I'm shallow :P

2.20 is amazing (it has the whole 'epic' speech with Logan, and Veronica crying over Logan), 2.18 has a sexy summer flashback, 2.17 is great with this amazing slow dance (very VL heavy), 2.7 9mmm, bathroom stuff), 2.6 is just an excellent ep (though not too much VM), 2.3

P.S. Oh, and 2.8 has Logan rescuing Veronica and it's very hot.

I have to say I love that last pair of lines. I was going to quote them myself on seeing your post, but here they are in all their simple beauty.

They are so resonant. Makes my heart both soar and ache.

(Of course, it also avoids all the mess and reality that must follow after what with the wife and kids and physical location ... but really, who wants to face that?)

And hey, they don't have to deal with the wife and the mess until what, next day? When he was supposed to arrive back. Guuuuuh. I love that movie so much.
