Hana Kimi squee

I have finished the first episode of Hana Kimi and it's official.
It's my new favorite.
And if it keeps on going the way it has, it will worm its way into my Top 5 doramas, period.
Even though only the first ep is subbed in dl format, the first four (I think) are subbed on youtube, and I am so besotted, I might risk the teeny screen (which I cannot enlarge), the dreadful video quality and the off-sync sound, just to watch more.
I think this will be a rare drama I am actually crazy anxious for, and watch religiously every week, as opposed to just waiting for the thing to finish so I can watch it all in one fell swoop. Heck, I must just watch raws because I read the manga and this is sticking very close to it.
Hana Kimi=LOVE.
I was a little anxious when I thought they were going to adapt this. Mind you, I find some Taiwanese manga adaptations beyond awesome (Mars which is even better than the manga, Meteor Garden which is just as good, It Started with a Kiss where I haven't read the manga but taken on its own merits, the drama rocked) but then for every Mars there is a Peach Girl (ruined! But the anime is awesome). For every Meteor Garden there is Marmalade Boy. And for every ISWAK? Meteor Garden 2 :P
But no, this? This is perfect. It gets the cracky manga tone just right. It gets the funniness and the weirdness and Nakatsu's (Xiu Yi) awesome drama king ditsiness and Mizuki's (Rui Xi) cheerful naivete and Sano's (Quan) slightly exasperated and bemused warmth. I love this thing.
Also, except for the fact that Mr. Mousie would object, I want to take Quan home.
Any drama that can actually make me laugh out loud repeatedly and also sigh like a giddy girl just as much?
A keeper.
OMG. I love this. Ella's facial expressions are to die for. And the scene where Xiu Yi and Quan and Rui Xi are in the sickbay, because RX fainted is hilarious.
It might be one of my very favorites, as all the undercurrents are priceless. Xiu Yi is being very Tamaki-ish and drama kingish and freaking out over Rui Xi, and he is genuinely concerned but he is crazily carried away, imagining pushing her in a wheel-chair and everything (the girl has a minor scratch). Rui Xi is trying to screen out Xiu Yi as ambient noise and to figure out why Quan is there and if anyone discovered her secret. Quan is sort of bemusedly/in shock processing just finding out that Rui Xi is a girl (heeeee, when he bends to pick her up and touches her chest and you can see it hits him? LOVE) and also trying not to roll his eyes at Xiu Yi's dramatics. And Umeda the Doc (blanking on his Taiwanese name) is taking it all in...
Though I think my very favorite scene is actually after that photo-nut posted tabloid-style pictures of Rui Xi and Quan together, very suggestively, and Rui Xi is staring all shocked and you see Quan come up and tear them down and go in a tearing rage to find the photo guy (this is after he knows Rui Xi is a girl, and I totally bet part of his rage is because he is worried that would get her into trouble and exposed). And while he is threatening photo guy who is quite unruffled, Rui Xi (who barely reaches to Quan's shoulder) comes up and just as photo guy says something to the effect of 'so...just experimenting with guys, change of taste' she punches him. And knocks him down. And stalks off.
I love.
And you see Quan give her this look which is totally surprised and admiring and OMG, he likes spunk!
I also love that the dynamics are already established of her being completely impractical and him being a sort of a common-sense caretaker. OK, that sounds bizarre, but let me explain. Frex they are walking and she is so deep in thought, she is about to walk smack into a telephone pole and he stops her and prevents her and he is so amused and is 'it's common sense to look where you are going, telephone pole is not going to get out of the way.' Or later, when she asks him if he is avoiding her because of the photos and he mutters under his breath 'it's because you are a girl, how do I interact with you?' (and it's such a Sanoish thing to say. Heeeee. Poor guy). And then she is sort of standing in the middle of the road, waiting for an answer and a car appears and she doesn't see it and is almost ran over and he jumps and pulls her away instinctively and he is holding her tightly and they both realize what's going on and pull apart and he continues walking, heeeeeee.
And he is so amused by her, in a good way. Like the scene where she is trying to figure out her dilemma and he comes up to her and asks her why she is walking around muttering to herself and he is grinning.
I love that he decides to keep her secret to figure out why she did that. I think that's why I love Sano so much. He takes everything in stride. Weird girl pretending to be a boy is his new roomie? OK, let's see why.
And Xiu Yi (Nakatsu?) OMG. Love. The scene where he wants her to be his new best friend and offers her good luck charms and writes her name in bf book? Is so funny. He is making me roll on the floor.
The whole thing is made of awesome.
