Anime Mania
Feb. 2nd, 2006 06:53 pmAfter a recent buying spree, I am currently a happy owner of the following anime, even if not all of them have arrived:
Escaflowne: seen already
Trigun: seen already
Hana Yori Dango: just started
Ruruoni Kenshin
Fushigi Yuugi (shudup, I wanna see it)
Twelve Kingdoms
Cowboy Beebop
Last Exile
Peacemaker Kurogane
RahXephon
Marmalade Boy
Basically, a mix of recommended anime and some I found randomly through sellers' stores.
and the friendslist collectively hits the unfriend button, realizing that there is a good chance anime is this year's Bollywood for the dimwitted, obsessive
dangermousie But I ran out of Hollywood and Bollywood backlog and now need new stuff to while away time between new releases!

Date: 2006-02-03 12:09 am (UTC)Cowboy Beebop is a show where I've seen enough random eps to actually get curious about the whole. Plus, my husband likes it, so I can always get him to watch it with me.
Ghost in the shell sounds interesting if a bit trippy. As to Evangelion, I've heard it's horribly depressing. Is it?
I've heard good things about Samurai Champloo (I know
Btw, have you seen Trigun? It's mt new little obsession and is cyber punk influenced and really really good.

Date: 2006-02-03 12:20 am (UTC)Evangelion is great, and YES totally depressing... including the ending. But if you are really going to get into anime, you can't miss it!
Oh! And Full Metal Alchemist is fantastic! A friend of mine downloaded the whole series with Spanish subtitles (I hope it gets a proper release here one day)and I loved it from beginning to end! And Naruto is like really big here at the moment, the show is kind of fun with hilarious moments, and lots of action.
And I also loved the animes from Rumiko Takahashi's mangas, especially Ranma 1/2 (totally zany and hilarious) and Inu Yasha. And X based in the manga X by CLAMP is also one of my favorites!

I know... poor darling, but anyway the show is still fantastic. And that kid is really sweet and lovable.

Date: 2006-02-03 12:46 am (UTC)Kakashi is just levels of cool I've never seen before. He's so sweet and laid back, yet his past is just awful. I also love how long suffering he is with the kids, especially Naruto. And the fact that one of his abilities is calling up dogs, so cool.

Date: 2006-02-03 12:31 am (UTC)PK is one of the best new anime I've seen. It makes you laugh and cry and wonder if the whole samurai thing is all it's cracked up to be. Suzumu ended up being my favorite because he's just. so. messed. up. Kid broke my heart a couple times. Also the relationship between Tatsu and the little mute girl is just adorable.
LE, another one of the must see anime. Studio Gonzo, who did PK too, is a MASTER. That's why I look forward to Trinity Blood, Basilisk and Speedgrapher, all Studio Gonzo releases for this summer.
SC is by the same guy who did CB. It's weird sometimes as it's deliberately anachronistic sometimes, but it's poignient too.
Another great anime, which I thought I'd hate as I'm not a horror fan, is Hellsing. If you get adventurous you might want to try it. Also, if you like Hana Nori and Marmalade Boy, you might like His and Her Circumstances and Fruits Basket. If you like RahXephon you might like Neon Genesis Evangelion (which I HATE with a violent passion), Gundam Seed, or Fafner. There's also Melody of Oblivion, which, while not fitting into any of those categories, has me hooked as does Get Backers. If you like suspense, Witch Hunter Robin is wonderful and Full Metal Alchemist is the hit of the year. If you like RK, you might want to try Samurai Deeper Kyo, a really interesting spin on the split personality thing with an ending that just *got* me.

Welcome to my world. I always see the majority of my FList glaze over when I start going on about an anime. The other half glazes over when I go on a Supernatural tangent. I'm there for you!

Fruits Basket
FB sounds really really odd (people being turned into pets). Hmmmm.
Melody of Oblivion, Get Backers, Samurai Deeper Kyo
What are they about? I foresee you becoming a much-pestered-by-me anime source :)
Full Metal Alchemist is the hit of the year
Husband really likes it but I find it too unbearably sad (with the little child trapped in that suit of armor).

:P I am tempted to go back and read all your older anime posts now, which I used to skip over (ahhh, irony!)

Date: 2006-02-03 01:36 am (UTC)Melody of Oblivion is about a sort of post apocalyptic world in which a boy becomes their world's equivalent of a "knight". Any synopsis I'd give would sound weird, because it is a little, but it works so wonderfully well.
Get Backers is about two guys who run a business where they say they can get back anything you've lost. Ginji can control electricity though and Ban has a crush grip and a thing called Jagen that he can do with his eyes that causes people to have waking nightmares. Things get complicated though when they get tangled up in a place called The Limitless Fortress, which is where Ginji came from and the source of their powers. The dynamic between Ginji and Ban is is funny, sweet and poignient, as they're really what saves each other.
Samurai Deeper Kyo is about a samurai who has a split personality locked inside of him named Kyo who gets loose and takes him over. Kyo wants his body back and goes to take down the powers that be to get it back. In the process he takes a pretty bounty hunter hostage, who eventually ends up sort of befriending the surly alter ego. At the same time she sort of has feelings for the kinder samurai too. Kyo still wants his body back, but he starts to mellow out too so you end with the bounty hunter having to make a choice since both alter egos can't survive in the world at the same time.
A lot of my friends are into FB. It's a little too cutesy for me, but this is from the person who started anime with Vampire Hunter D.

Date: 2006-02-03 02:34 am (UTC)Tell me how Last Exile is, I am quite curious. And if you see Rurouni Kenshin, it's how Evangelion is to RahXephon for Samurai Deeper Kyo, there are parallels...so I don't know how you'll feel about SDK after seeing it...
