Trigun in Pictures
Jan. 30th, 2006 12:24 pmBehind the cut is the picture summary of Trigun set-up. At least so far (6 episodes in). Because? Why not?
Do check it out.
Trigun is an anime that follows the complicated adventures of someone who is really good at fighting but does not want to kill:

Wait, wrong anime!
There are no schoolgirls out to save the world:

There is also a lack of long flowing hair and flowers:

So, what does it have?
In Trigun, we have Vash the Stampede, known as the Humanoid Typhoon:

Who is a blond, spiky-haired pacifist with a $$60 billion bounty on his head. He also really loooooves his red coat:

He is being followed by Meryl Stryfe and Millie Thompson, two insurance agents from the Berardinelli Insurance Agency, whose instructions are to minimize the Vash-related damage for which the company has to pay out. Also, to be busty:

Meryl is the boss, and she is a bossy older one with quite a temper. Also, she kinda likes Vash:

And Milly is the tall gullible optimist one, with one heck of a huge gun:

While Meryl and Milly find Vash early on, they refuse to believe that it's him because while they are expecting an evil, unbelievable monster of a man:

They are shocked to discover that the Humanoid Typhoon is a laid back goof-ball addicted to donuts:

He is also addicted to busty women, but I have no pictures of that, so here is another picture of Vash instead:

There are various things about Vash's tortured past (and present and future):

And villains:

But I've only started to get to it, so this picture is here solely because it's cool:

They also come across Nicholas Wolfwood:

Who is not only a sharp dresser:

But is also a preacher who lugs around a Via Dolorosa-sized cross:

In which he keeps his guns:

Coolness ensues:

Do check it out.

The episode "Vash the Stampede", which is a recap episode, also has a great scene where Meryl walks in on Vash after he's gotten out of the shower and she's shocked to realize just how far he goes to keep from hurting people as she sees what he looks like without a shirt on. What I'm saying will make sense after you see it. Trust me.

Really? That's neat because I just thought it was a stylistic thing, like Allen's poofy sleeves and hey, red is a pretty distinctive color for anime purposes.

OK, now my brain is running wild. Tattoos of hideously fat people? Secret escape plans for his elder brother Lincoln in Prison Break? A third nipple? :P Don't spoil me though :)

Date: 2006-01-30 05:51 pm (UTC)You know, I've often wondered if Whedon, who is an admitted anime fan, created Book with Wolfwood in mind, as they have a lot of the same issues. I've also always wondered if Whendon created the whole Firefly series as a cross between Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. There are some amazing similarities. After you watch "Paradise" you'll know what I mean if you haven't already picked up on them.

LOL. Not quite that dramatic, but you'll know what I mean, and you'll love Vash for it.

Any more love and I'll have to get a t-shirt. Oh well, I have a Farscape t-shirt after all :P

Date: 2006-01-30 06:07 pm (UTC)I agree with her as I thought the same thing, only considered some Trigun in there too, especially the Wolfwood/Book connection. The connection gets stronger as you learn more about Wolfwood at the end. Some animes, if done just right, would make great live action movies, but it's a delicate line. Whedon made it work, if that's the case.

They carry them at Hot Topic.

Date: 2006-01-30 06:12 pm (UTC)Oh no. I foresee much mockery on the part of Husband but I think I will acquire one (actually, it turns out he loves Trigun so maybe not).

Well, he is Joss :P I do think that he has that same sensibility of fun and funniness covering some really fucked-up internal mess that from my admittedly limited exposure I think some anime really likes to do.

Date: 2006-01-30 05:43 pm (UTC)And yes you should. Trigun is amazingly good.
The resemblence is really uncanny
Be thankful for small mercies. He could have decided to dress like Folken from Escaflowne and that would mean a metal arm and a facial tattoo :P

Date: 2006-01-30 05:56 pm (UTC)You know, I wonder how you grow hair that long. Mine has been growing out for years and it's in no danger of going past my waist. Those anime hair care products are really something!

LOL. I'd say maintaining all the limbs he was born with and refraining from tattooing is more than a small mercy!

Date: 2006-01-30 09:14 pm (UTC)It's very very good. I am sure it's on netflix (I know you are not in NA but I am sure there must be a UK equivalent), or I bought mine on ebay for $5.50 plus shipping which is very cheap.
