Behind the cut is the picture summary of Trigun set-up. At least so far (6 episodes in). Because? Why not?

Do check it out.

Trigun is an anime that follows the complicated adventures of someone who is really good at fighting but does not want to kill:

Wait, wrong anime!

There are no schoolgirls out to save the world:

There is also a lack of long flowing hair and flowers:

So, what does it have?

In Trigun, we have Vash the Stampede, known as the Humanoid Typhoon:

Who is a blond, spiky-haired pacifist with a $$60 billion bounty on his head. He also really loooooves his red coat:

He is being followed by Meryl Stryfe and Millie Thompson, two insurance agents from the Berardinelli Insurance Agency, whose instructions are to minimize the Vash-related damage for which the company has to pay out. Also, to be busty:

Meryl is the boss, and she is a bossy older one with quite a temper. Also, she kinda likes Vash:

And Milly is the tall gullible optimist one, with one heck of a huge gun:

While Meryl and Milly find Vash early on, they refuse to believe that it's him because while they are expecting an evil, unbelievable monster of a man:

They are shocked to discover that the Humanoid Typhoon is a laid back goof-ball addicted to donuts:

He is also addicted to busty women, but I have no pictures of that, so here is another picture of Vash instead:

There are various things about Vash's tortured past (and present and future):

And villains:

But I've only started to get to it, so this picture is here solely because it's cool:

They also come across Nicholas Wolfwood:

Who is not only a sharp dresser:

But is also a preacher who lugs around a Via Dolorosa-sized cross:

In which he keeps his guns:

Coolness ensues:

The Cross Punisher is actually a gun in and of itself too. I was personally always a little fond of the portable confessional.

Anyway, they also explain why he wears red all the time. On a completely new subject, I also own a t-shirt of that picture with Vash holding the gun with one eye closed.

The episode "Vash the Stampede", which is a recap episode, also has a great scene where Meryl walks in on Vash after he's gotten out of the shower and she's shocked to realize just how far he goes to keep from hurting people as she sees what he looks like without a shirt on. What I'm saying will make sense after you see it. Trust me.

Guuuuh. *dies from upcoming happiness* Book and Wolfwood could have quite a chat :P

Really? That's neat because I just thought it was a stylistic thing, like Allen's poofy sleeves and hey, red is a pretty distinctive color for anime purposes.

OK, now my brain is running wild. Tattoos of hideously fat people? Secret escape plans for his elder brother Lincoln in Prison Break? A third nipple? :P Don't spoil me though :)

You know, I've often wondered if Whedon, who is an admitted anime fan, created Book with Wolfwood in mind, as they have a lot of the same issues. I've also always wondered if Whendon created the whole Firefly series as a cross between Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. There are some amazing similarities. After you watch "Paradise" you'll know what I mean if you haven't already picked up on them.

LOL. Not quite that dramatic, but you'll know what I mean, and you'll love Vash for it.

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] katranna yesterday and she said when she first saw Firefly, her thought was "this is a live action Cowboy Bebop." And I really did think of Firefly when I started watching Trigun. That actually would be extra neat if Firefly was influenced by anime.

you'll love Vash for it.

Any more love and I'll have to get a t-shirt. Oh well, I have a Farscape t-shirt after all :P

I agree with her as I thought the same thing, only considered some Trigun in there too, especially the Wolfwood/Book connection. The connection gets stronger as you learn more about Wolfwood at the end. Some animes, if done just right, would make great live action movies, but it's a delicate line. Whedon made it work, if that's the case.

They carry them at Hot Topic.

Oh no. I foresee much mockery on the part of Husband but I think I will acquire one (actually, it turns out he loves Trigun so maybe not).

Well, he is Joss :P I do think that he has that same sensibility of fun and funniness covering some really fucked-up internal mess that from my admittedly limited exposure I think some anime really likes to do.

In a tangent that will mean nothing to you but that I can't refrain from sharing... wow, am I slow! I just realized that my kid has been dressing as Vash for the last three months. The spiky hair was nothing new, although he's let it go a lot longer now, but the big clue should have been the glasses. He bought this little pair of granny glasses with yellow lenses that he wears everywhere. (If he tries to pierce his ears, I'll kill him.) The resemblence is really uncanny. I'll have to get a photo.

I really have to watch this series.

OMG! You have got to be kidding me! That is sooooooo adorable. If you don't mind my asking, how old is he?

And yes you should. Trigun is amazingly good.

The resemblence is really uncanny

Be thankful for small mercies. He could have decided to dress like Folken from Escaflowne and that would mean a metal arm and a facial tattoo :P

And a purple mullet, which I consider the worst of the lot.

Yes, but a mullet is removable with bleaching and a hair cut, while a metal arm and a facial tattoo are a bit more permanent.

There IS no excuse for a purple mullet. I don't care who you are. Zechs' platinum blonde mane and Duo's braid down past his waist are tame by comparison.

You know, I wonder how you grow hair that long. Mine has been growing out for years and it's in no danger of going past my waist. Those anime hair care products are really something!

And no split ends either. I've always been jealous of Duo's hair. Hilariously, Duo and Zechs have the deepest voices of the series, I'm suspecting to compensate for the facts that Duo especially would look like a girl otherwise.

With some anime boys, I really wouldn't be able to tell them apart from girls if it wasn't for the outfits.

Either [livejournal.com profile] aliterati or [livejournal.com profile] katranna told me once that Gundam Wing was like an anime boy band. A boy of every flavor :P

From: [identity profile] crumpeteer.livejournal.com
Very true. Gundam Wing, which is probably the best of the Gundam series, though Gundam Seed is way up there, finally got the mecha to emotional angst formula right.

We got your:
tough, slightly suicidal bad boy with homicidal tendencies= Heero
funny, laid back nice guy who can kick your butt three ways to Sunday= Duo
silent, slightly creepy serious guy= Trowa
sweet, boyish noble blond guy= Quatre
woman hating, taciturn Chinese guy= Wuefei
intellectual, slightly bad platinum blond guy= Zechs
for those who like them older and with more oily charm= Treize

There's also enough slash subtext to strangle a llama.

He's thirteen, and a little anime pusherman. He's starting his own LJ to push anime and manga on his classmates.

Be thankful for small mercies.

LOL. I'd say maintaining all the limbs he was born with and refraining from tattooing is more than a small mercy!

Really? *is excited that her promoting has worked*

It's very very good. I am sure it's on netflix (I know you are not in NA but I am sure there must be a UK equivalent), or I bought mine on ebay for $5.50 plus shipping which is very cheap.
