I literally took almost a thousand photos in Japan. It's going to take me ages to upload them all. So I am going to do it in small regular batches.

Here are 30 or so random photos. Not so much on temples here (I am going to do a temple-centric batch later because I must have photographed every temple known to man, or at least it felt this way). Mostly people, neighborhoods and random foodstuff. But don't worry, a few historic buildings thrown in.

A street in Shinjuku at night:

People resting by a sculpture in Kyoto train station (one of the most gorgeous modernist structures I've seen):

Temple in Kyoto:

A denizen of Shibuya enjoying his day:

A couple going to the temple in Asakusa in traditional dress, through the busy, thronged with shops, temple precinct grounds:

Close up on a corner in Shinjuku:

Some yummy deserts:

Proof that I am not the only one being a shutter-bug. A tourist/worshipper taking pictures at a famous temple in Kyoto:

A couple reading their fortunes together at that same temple:

Temple grounds of that temple:

Small town near Kyoto through a window of a train:

Traditional Japanese breakfast as served to us in the ryokan (bean looking stuff is the horrific natto, fermented soybeans with raw quail egg. I've tried it and definitely not my thing):

Tiny part of a food area in a department store:

Geishas with elaborate clothes and hairstyles (and their backs):

Same geishas talking:

Part of our room in the ryokan, made up for the night:

A street in Kyoto, near a popular temple:

Cosplayers in Harajuku taking a break:

Geishas walking down the street in Kyoto:

Lanterns in a temple in Kyoto:

A small part of the famous castle in Himeji:

Some denizens of Akihibara:

The ubiquitous drink machines (here, they are on a side street in Ginza):

Takuya Kimura (I think) benevolently presiding over Shinjuku:

Weekend morning train:

One of the many many stalls in the covered street market in Kyoto:

Sign for a host club in Shinjuku:

A pair of geishas in Kyoto:

People crossing the street in front of Shinjuku station during weekday rush hour:

A tiny shoe store off the gigantic temple in Asakusa:

One geisha correcting the other's outfit in Kyoto:

More to come soon...
