Finished Escaflowne and thought it was amazing. I have a long post I want to make about it, mainly about the losing v. letting go and the idea that all things should be in their proper place but I am tired, so later. But yes, it was good and now I am interested in seeing other anime. Any recs?

Also, finally saw BSG ep and it's one of my favorites. I have long thoughts about it, but once again, a post on it later. I especially loved how the alienness of Sharon has been maintained.

Gankutsuou, which I've been raving about in my LJ, is WONDERFUL. If you can get your hands on the first volume, I'd highly recommend it. Completely captures the spirit of Count of Monte Cristo.

Is this completely over though? The thought of being left in the middle of the cliffhanger because there aren't more eps yet is scaaaaary.

The series itself is completely over, but it just got licensed here in America so they're releasing one volume of the anime every month or two. Considering there's only 24 episodes, that means about 5 volumes.

Good ones that ARE completely released include Last Exile (space action!) and Magic Knights Rayearth. I also think you'd really like Peacemaker.

Ooh, so glad you liked it! Though of course it is incredible, so it's only to be expected. ;P

Recommendations? Utena. Utena all the way. (Katrine will back me up on this one.)

She did mention something about it. Hmmm....

But does it have hot angsty blond-haired Legolas look-a-likes? :P

No blondes with flowing hair, but it does have a red head and a green head (yes, I meant to type green) with some flowing locks. It also has an abundance of girl on girl...uh, symbolism.

I would, but... I think it requires a bit more background knowledge of anime and the magical girl genre, to understand what Utena's getting at/commenting on.

Otherwise one might just take the transformations and the repetitive nature of the duels, etc, at face value, and that would reduce Utena to precisely what it's not. (Or rather, taking it at face value would take away what's most wonderful about it.)

I'd just like to say that along with all the staid practicality of losing vs. letting go, and things being in their place, it does have the rather optimistic and ambitious message that your life is determined by your own expectations and wishes. :-)
