dangermousieI hate Mu Tou, the guy with glasses who has a thing for Feng. I think we are supposed to find him sad or something but he makes me thing of people who keep heads in freezers. I just want him to die.
But the OTP, oh the OTP, makes up for it.
It does seem that Ken displaces his issues (and he has plenty, he was yelling at his Mom that even if Dad came back, he wouldn't let him across the threshold) into the club and perfectionism. He is such a control freak because his life is not in control (with his father leaving).
And he said just the right thing to Feng when he told her when he fell for someone it was for their inside qualities (and then she brought up her scar but he didn't realize she was doing that). I love that she is helping him out with getting people for the swim team (and stayed up all night compiling lists, awwww) but what I ove even more is the scene where she goes to apoligize for leaving with the group during training and they end up on the beach and they just have a crazy amount of fun playing around and mock-fighting and it's the most gorgeous thing and they are both laughing and breathless and just fun. It's an incredible scene. I love how she tells him as an apology for her club members he can hit her. And he raises his backpack and asks her 'are your eyes closed?' and she tells him he is suspicious but as he is prepared to hit she starts hitting him first all indignant that he was going to take her at her word and then, did I mention the water fight? Did I? Did I? Because...God.
I also love the scene where they are walking to a concert and he takes her hand and she jerks it away and then later grabs it herslef because they are running and then sheepishly tells him 'Only I am allowed to hold your hand, you can't hold mine.' And in response, he takes her hand. And she lets him!
And then she gets all jealous (groundlessly) about Doris the bar-owner (the girl really doesn't trust easily, but hey, she is messed up enough to want to keep her scar as a reminder to her family so they stick together) but then they make up in the acquarium in an adorable scene where he is mimicking her and comparing her to one of the sharks and they are laughing and I love it. They really are most human and vulnerable with each other.
And she buys him dessert and goes places with him, but insists they are just friends and it's clearly driving him nuts. But I love how she is opening up more and more.
Of course, horrid Mu Tou is all about exposing that initial silly love contract (if you love her, don't you want her to be happy?) and it's going to screw it all up...
And I am up through ep 10 of Tokyo Juliet and so much love!
I love the bit where Sui and Liang are vacation planning and descussing whether it's too expensive. They really come across as a real couple. Sui is being kind to Li Sha the rival, but that just reenforces how secure she is in Liang's feelings for her.
My favorite scene in the whole ep is a morning scene, with her pushing him out the door, and him telling her to be at the train station (for weekend trip) at 6 because he doesn't want to wait for her. And she snarks back "guys should wait for girls." And then he leans in to kiss her and she mock pulls away and they almost topple over and they are giggling. OMG adorableness.
But of course, never smooth sailing for long. You can tell it's an OTP of mine, when I am all 'oh no, liang and sui's weekend trip will be ruined' more than any other consideration. Because Li Sha's mom and Liang's dad arrange for a public announcement of their engagement and trick Liang into going there. Which, as far as evil plans go, sucks rather. Liang never listened to his Dad in his life (and is likely to do precisely the opposite of what he is told), and he is strong-willed and Sui is everything to him. So good luck trying!
Evil dad likes messing with Liang. Part of his schemes isn't just to hurt Sui, but to exert control over his wayward son, to show him who is boss. If I may be permitted to have a bunch of meta for a sweet, fluffy, not too deep a show, he wants Liang to become like himself as a justification for his own life. And to see Liang so different, so caring and deeply devoted, placing love and friendship above everything (and still getting ahead in life) rubs him the wrong way. He wants Liang a clone of self otherwise it's a condemnation.
As for Liang, it really goes back to that childhood thing, his memory of Sui as a child. It's the one lovely and unspoiled thing he had back then so it bacame a fixation. Sui is his type anyway for a lot of reasons (not the least of which is crackling sexual chemistry) but because she is also someone he fixated on so much when a kid, nothing can dislodge her. Ironically, it's his Dad's fault. If Liang had a more love-filled childhood, he wouldn't have fixated so much on Sui.
But as it is, when the public announcement is made, I love that Liang straightforwardly and without any drama just as publically says no and that he views Li Sha as a sister. I just love that they don't drag out those things.
And I love that he finds Sui at night (because she went on ahead to their hotel for the trip and got lost) and he is mad because her cell is off (it got stolen) and she is mad because she is so scared by herself in the dark woods and he just hugs her and she tells him 'go to your Li Sha' but they both know she doesn't mean it and he tells her it's OK, he's here now.
And I also love that he tells her he loves her more every time he sees her confident in her work.
Basically, of all the doramas, they are the most functional and happy couple.

hope_fuleigh's list of Top 10 OTPs and people should check it out because it's the coolest thing ever, and not just because so many of the ships are the same as mine (Veronica/Logan, Ling/Qi-Luo, Domyouji/Makino, Xiang Qin/Zhi Shu.) I also think she just sold me on watching Kurosagi.
