Whoa, so good

Bought Serenity DVD. I've forgotten how brilliantly good it is. And worth $$$ just for the deleted scenes and outtakes alone.

The outtakes are hilarious. I especially loved Wash's "back seat driving" comments. And I think I have a bit of a crush on Nathan Fillion now, after his little riff on finding Haven destroyed scene, e.g. "Kaylee, find that kid who's taking a dirt nap with Baby Jesus. We are going to need a hood ornament." And dancing with Morena.

I also loved the deleted scenes. The "pirate" one cracked me up. Mainly because I was trying to imagine Mal and Inara getting it on in a burning temple and nope, not working. I also loved seeing Inara reflected in The Operator's eye glasses because it was such a cool shot. And Book's prayer for the dead. But my two favorite deleted scenes were Mal and Inara after Mal transforms Serenity into a reaver ship and Mal and The Operative at the end. I loved that when TO asked him how Mal survived losing everything instead of so faux-profund statement we got Mal basically tellin TO to fuck off and muttering TO was a whiner. So in character. Mal wouldn't tell TO even if he knew how, which I don't think he does. He hates TO after all and is not the guy to pointificate.

The fave deleted scene though was Mal and Inara after stripping of serenity. When I first saw the movie I wanted to see her with him after that scene and they did shoot it! Glle has no bounds. And she does ease his burden a bit as he was falling apart. I loved the bit about Simon preparing ODs of morphine and I loved M/I's quiet conversation, the only one they really have. When he finally asks her why she left, as if the words are torn from him and she replies "Why didn't you ask me not to?" I about died. (Of course, woman, he was going to tell you he loved you in HoG until you had a fit of "attachments are evil" so hmmm...) It's about a billion steps forward, for them.

Oh, I'm dying now. I haven't seen them yet, but I couldn't resist the potential spoilage. I have to run right home and watch those! There's M/I stuff? How am I going to make it through the workday?

Yup, there is a lot of M/I stuff. In addition to the two scenes I mentioned, there are at least two more. Ahhh...goodness.

See, all those scenes were in the book I read because I missed the movie in theaters, so I'm going to be more surprised by those scenes NOT being the movie than by them being in the deleted scenes.

Icon!!! Heeee.

But yeah, I haven't read the book so it was a pleasant surprise.

GAH!!

May I cry now, considering the movie isn't released out here until February? *weeps*

I may have to cave and just order it from Amazon or another overseas supplier... even if the postage will end up being twice as much as the DVD itself. *pout*

I loved the dancing. Could you hear what he said before he started to dance? I also loved that scene with Summer Glau and Nathan Fillion in the pilot's area, throwing stuff at each other.
"What a whinner" was such a great line, I wish they'd kept it in. It really is very in character.
Also, the thing with the grenade when they're running back to the shuttle. I loved that, and found it hilarious.
Another thing I love about the movie is that my whole family enjoyed it, which happens very rarely. I think I'm the only one that watched the outtakes three times in a row, though.

They all have such foul mouths. hehe The bit about putting Book upfront on the ship cracked me to bits. I missed the Baby Jesus comment, I'll have to rewatch them. :)
