I am continuing my Veronica Mars rewatch. The latest ep is the fifth one of the series. YTYKS is a good ep whose biggest flaw is that it's sandwiched between two amazing ones (I can't wait to watch RotK, though I have to say the ending still freaks me out no matter how many times I've seen the ep).

This is the ep where Veronica finds out Troy is not her Prince Charming after all. I do say I don't blame her for looking at the folder (it says volumes that she didn't do a search on him like she did for Ms. James), for how many of us would be able to resist? And of course Troy, scumbag or not, has (ironically) a good point about trust. Of course, the fact that she opens up to Troy and he turns out unworthy is yet another scar for Veronica and makes her more reluctant to trust in the future. And of course, this continues a trend of V suspecting Logan just as a habit (this is going to be a huge thing later, of course). Even V doesn't entertain the notion seriously though, which is progress of sorts, partially because of their recent detente. The scene by Logan's locker is...while still not friendly, is not filled with venom, and partially because why on earth would Logan need to steal a car?

The scene where she revs her engine and he smacks the hood with his coat is adorable of course, but I love his crack about her getting her car out of a cereal box even better. Yay. Playful.

Also, V is an understanding gf. Troy just went off whoring to TJ and she doesn't chew him out. That whole thing makes me think of two things:

One, it's a clear hint that Troy is not who he seems. I get the feeling he likes hanging out with V but he is not invested in any of this: V, finding the car, etc. He is out of there soon. After all, what normal guy wouldn't be worried about his gf being annoyed about TJ. But Troy never seems worried. (Though his plan is dumb for someone as clever as he. Those steroids and car won't get him far with Shauna, so what's the point? No long term, is it?)

And two, V has a very certain high breaking point about people she likes/trusts, but once you are out, you are out. She will tolerate things a lot of 'regular' people won't: she takes her Mom back after she runs out, she is OK with Troy being in TJ, she takes Duncan back after his ignoring her and the drugged sex (I don't blame D for sex, though morning after is another matter, but V being able to take him back is another matter), she tells Logan she thinks of the salt lick as 'one of those not real things.' But once the invisible line (whatever it happens to be) is crossed, that's it. You are out.

And I loved all the Keith and Veronica scenes. Her tearful comment to him that he can find anybody but not Mom and he upsetness about Ms James remind me that, no matter how outwardly tough, she is still a young girl with a burden no girl should bear, and she is not Ok no matter how much she pretends she is. And of course Keith is the perfect Dad, isn't he? That scene with him, V and the cake near the end? Wonderful.

Next up: the brilliant twistedness that is "Return of the Kane."
