I definitely have Veronica Mars on the brain, as I dreamt that I was watching the season finale where I found out that Dick was responsible for the crash because he was emotionally disturbed (he could also morph into other life-forms, like a character from X-Men, but we'll ignore that for now). And Logan and Veronica had a huge angsty emo conversation while hunting for him in this huge, dusty abandoned lair. And Troy was back. And the whole vibe was kind of like Buffy. My brain is an odd, odd place.

Also, I am tempted to get my hands on the Taiwanese, live-action adaptation of Peach Girl. Yes, I have no shame. Anyone *cough[livejournal.com profile] catdecembercough* seen it and can tell me if it's any good? At the very least, I find the actor who is playing the Kairi equivalent cute, so it won't be a complete waste:

Kairi and Momo from that version. Or whatever their names are in this adaptation:

You've got to hand it to the Taiwanese and their speed in adapting manga. Why no one has done HanaKimi as either an anime or a live action is BEYOND me.

Momo doesn't look very tan there.

I don't think they went with tan (they probably couldn't anyway, as I am not sure Taiwanese have the same stigma). It's some incident with her first entry to class being some really short dress (which got torn blah blah).

Isn't HanaKimi newer than Peach Girl or Mars or HYD or Marmalade Boy (the ones I know were turned into live action)? Its turn will come. Probably :) I hope, as it would be fun and there are always more boyband members to star and angst oh-so-prettily.

HK has been around for a while. The best friend and I were just talking about how we couldn't figure out why nothing has been done with HK, since it was big in Japan. HanaKimi is just sweet and cute and romantic and I WANT Sano. He's the most perfect guy on the face of the earth on the level with Sousuke, only more functional in society.

Hmmmm. Than that's a mystery. I adore Sousuke, but wouldn't want him in RL as his clueless-in-normal-life thing, combined with the igh risk profession would not make him ideal bf. Also, I like mine more wise-cracking. But in fiction, he is adorable.

I don't mind Sousuke's cluelessness as sheer sweetness wins me over in real life any time. I love the snarky ones in fiction, but I'd never be able to be involved with someone like that. Friend, yes, involved, no. Like I love Saito to death and I could be friends with him, but I'd kill him if I had to live with him.

Saito definitely overdoes it on the snark. But Sousuke is completely serious and I love teasing. I like a happy medium. Someone like Kairi is about the closest to anime eye candy I'd like in real life. Or Tamahome or Hotohori.

But I still hold to the fact that Saito probably isn't quite as bad at home as he is with Kenshin's bunch. My only guess is Tokio doesn't get rattled and if the person doesn't get rattled, there's no fun in trying to mess with them.

Kairi is a bit too much of a goof for me. He's a sweetheart, but I don't particularly like being picked on.

I seem to like the sheer innocence that Sousuke and Tamaki project. Kakashi is so laid back it's hard not to like him. Jin falls into that category because even though he's completely unpredictable there's something about him that seems to need looking after. Sano is just a great guy.

I've realized a lot of the appeal to anime men for me is that they tend to be one woman men. They're either so messed up or emotionally stunted that they just need one particular person. Like Byakuya for instance, who is arrogant and hard to get along with, yet who obviously loved his wife and acted different around her.

Husband and I totally do the teasing back and forth all the time, so I love that particular aspect of any relationship. I would actually like Kairi more as a friend even than as a boyfriend because he reminds me of a male version of a lot of my girlfriends.

Innocence is lovely, but I would like it mixed with some experience in a guy (a la Vash) because otherwise, I think it would annoy me a bit after a while.

Is that one of the guys from Meteor Gardens? Or is the floppy hair confusing me?

Yes, it is. It's one of the secondary ones. Not the one with glasses, but the other one.

P.S.

So, what did you think of the angst 'n' cheese fest that is MG?

I quite liked it and you were right - it is just like Bollywood with angst, cheese, bad outfits and wtf storylines. They need to add dancing to complete the circle.

I still haven't watched Mars - these are serious time committments these shows!

So glad you liked. I am usually nervous when people watch something odd on my rec, because I have no idea whether they'll like it or think it's the most hideous thing they'd ever seen.

And yeah, it's totally Bollywoodish. And I like Mars even better :)

No need to worry on my account, as I enjoy sampling (one of the reasons I love your journal is that you always have something new to read about). Even if something is awful there is always the off switch!

I am looking forward to Mars. Now I am on Spring break I will sit down with a pile of marking and enjoy.

Wow, she looks neither tan nor 16. Heh.

And even if they decided to have her wear a short dress due to lack of tan stigma, it's still kinda weird... because wouldn't people start to realize she isn't like they thought about, say, a week into the semester when she wears normal clothes? At least the tan-skin-bleached-hair thing is something that Momo can't get rid of, and that reinforces the misconception each time people see her. Or will her dress get torn each day? :-P

They moved the story to college (as they did with all the manga adaptations they did). She looks college age.

I am not sure how (or if) her 'fast' reputation keeps up after the initial impression. It doesn't pay a super-huge importance in the story plot, except it's important for her self-image and adequacy etc, so I could see the adaptation dispense with it most most of the story and concentrating on romantic entanglements (as neither of the two boys obviously thinks she is fast, at least not after the very initial impression).

The anime was really true to the manga, so let's see if the live action is.
