Am quite sure about what I'll be doing for part of the weekend, as I have just recieved a lovely Nehaflix package containing Rang De Basanti, Humko Tumko Pyaar Hai and Lamhe. Why is it wonderful? Well, I loved RDB when I saw it in a movie theater (I have a long write-up of it somewhere), and it's my favorite BW movie of either this or last year with the exception of Parineeta, or maybe even then. And I've wanted to see HTPH for ages. Its cheesy goodness (and Arjun hotness) becons. A plot about a formerly blind girl, stuck in the Swiss Alps, and romanced by a millionaire, but hiding her heart in the grave of her lover, who she loved but never saw, and who turns up not dead, but not wanting to say anything to ruin her new relationship (phew!), is PERFECT. Especially with the 'will she recognize him or won't she?' being played by Amisha Patel who I liked in Gadar and whose crying amuses me, and with the hunky angsty lover being played by Arjun Rampal, who is inhuman in his good-looks.

Oh, and why Lamhe? I've heard good things about it, as it is one of those Yash Raj classics. Anil Kapoor doesn't do anything for me sex-appeal wise (he is a bit too typical 80s-early 90s hero: beefy and with an ever-present mustache), but I like him as an actor, and I really loved his character in 1942-A Love Story (where he played a clueless rich kid who discovers love and revolution. Though I think Saif or SRK would have been really cool in the role, Anil managed to project all this simplicity. Saif, even when he plays a scatterbrain (e.g. DCH) always plays a sophisticated scatterbrain. And SRK? Well, I'd rather see SRK in most movies :P And this was officially the longest digression ever). But the main reason I got it was for Sridevi, who I've only seen in one movie (the cool Khuda Gawah with Amitabh, where she had a dual role), and I fell madly in girl-crush with her. It's a pity the bulk of her movies came in the 'bad years' of 1980s and early 1990s, and even with that she still managed to rule the screen. If only she came a few years later. The thought of Sridevi and matured SRK or Aamir or Saif is...too delicious for words.

Oh, and just like [livejournal.com profile] fivil, I am psychotically (well, I don't know about her being psychotic but I am) excited about Fanaa, the upcoming (in May), YRF movie starring *deep breaths, deep breaths, don't faint, [livejournal.com profile] drangermousie* Aamir Khan and Kajol. Together. As lovers. Hold me.

Why am I so excited?

1. It's Yash Raj Films. Most of their movies (Neil & Nicki being a notable exception) are quite good and have great production values. It's as upmarket as you can get.

2. Aamir!!! He is not my favorite Khan (SRK!!!! Duh), but I love him. He is a very good actor and he's been picking really interesting projects lately (The Rising, Rang De Basanti). Heck, the fact that he's been projects at all is exciting, as before last year's The Rising, his last film was in 2001.

3. Kunal Kohli, the Director, is the Director of Hum Tum, one of the most delightful and pitch-perfect and romantic and modern and and and Bolly movies of recent years. And his previous effort Mujhe Dosti Karoge? is one of those movies that has people who like it and hate it, but I am on the "like it" side.

4. The story. It sounds romantic, and angsty, and unusual and...But who am I kidding. I'll watch paint dry with this cast.

5. Kajol. Let me reiterate this. KAJOL! My favorite Bollywood actress has not made a movie since 2001, either. In fact, she retired to raise her children (which is admirable and cool and all that, but leaves me as a fan severely deprived). And now she is back. Even if it's a one-movie thing and she doesn't make another one, there will still be three more hours of Kajol to enjoy. The only thing better, is Kajol making another movie with SRK. Please.

6. Kajol and Aamir, together in a movie, playing a romantic couple. I watched the execrable Ishq and, even though they didn't play a couple (Aamir's best frind is in love with Kajol. And Kajol's best friend is in love with Aamir), but instead had a friendship, and the movie itself was awful, I ended up thinking 'whoa, they are hot together. I wish they were the couple of this movie instead.' Their chemistry and interactions were like another movie, one I really wanted to see (after the scene where Aamir is being beaten to death in jail, and Kajol comes to beg the villains for his life, I was all for both of them ditching their OTPs and running away together). Imagine my disappointment when I found out this was the only movie they ever did together. But now they are in another movie. And a couple. And with romance and angst. Wow. Wow.

Oh, and a few people at BollyWHAT saying it looks like DDLJ (hello, any romance does not DDLJ mean? Argh) or that Aamir is trying to be SRK. Why would he? No question SRK is the King of Bollywood, but Aamir is one of the very few people who can genuinely contest the title and the movies he is making have always been very differen from the movies SRK makes. They don't really cross each other's turf that much. I can't imagine SRK as Bhuvan in Lagaan or VJ in RDB any more than I can imagine Aamir as Asoka or Devdas or Veer.

Director: Kunal Kohli
Starring: Aamir Khan, Kajol, Rishi Kapoor
Music: Jatin Lalit
Producer: Aditya Chopra

Yash Raj Films are ready to present one of the most awaited films of the year. Why so much hype? Well this film is directed by Kunal Kohli of Hum Tum fame. It features Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan – who is working with Yash Raj Films for the first time in 13 years! This is also the comeback vehicle of the hugely popular actress Kajol, who turned her back on Bollywood on concentrate on motherhood. Oh wait, this is also the first time the two bigwigs have been romantically paired on the big screen. Unsurprisingly these factors are reason enough to catch the attention of Indian film fans throughout the world!

Choices... to choose between right or wrong is simple, but what defines one’s life is the decision between the greater of two goods or the lesser of two evils. This is the advice that Zooni Ali Beg (Kajol) receives from her father just as she is about to venture out into the world on her own for the very first time. Little does she know that these very words will shape her life.

Zooni, a blind Kashmiri girl, meets Rehan Qadri (Aamir Khan), a local tour guide and an incorrigible flirt, who goes from city to city exploring their architecture and also the women. Zonni’s friends warn her against this good-for-nothing roadside Romeo, but she chooses to ignore them. She is not one to be protected. It is now her time to discover life, and love. Is this really the right choice?

Rehan is fascinated by Zooni. He truly wants her to see life as it should be seen, in its many colours - and as he promises her, the time spent with him will be the most precious in all her life. Zooni sees Delhi, life and love like she never has before, because of Rehan.

What Zooni doesn’t know is that Rehan has another side of his life that he has kept from her - something that can not only change her life, but can also destroy it.

Oh, and I saw the trailer for Krrish. ROFL. So bad, such a tacky Matrix rip-off, though Hrithik looks hot in a long black coat he stole not from Neo but from Trinity. Ah, Rakesh Roshan, you continue to make super-pulpy, super-trashy, super-fun movies.

I LOVE THE KRRISH TRAILER! Lol. I really do. It made me want to see the movie like WHOA!

Heh, I haven't read the preview (since it has spoilers and I'm not QUITE ready for that...yet...) but I'm thinking a lot of Dil Se here. WHICH WAS A GREAAATT MOVIE! ^^

Anyway, I completely disagree with the BWhatters who are bringing up SRK. Kajol CAN do a movie without him. And he doesn't have to be mentioned. :P

(I love ya Rukhie!!! ;))

(I also really love Kaj too! :D)

(Ok, I'll stop now! :P)

But...but...but. Krrish looks so TACKY.

And if it's anything like Dil Se, I would be extatic. I am just extatic anyway. Kajol! With Aamir!

Kajol CAN do a movie without him. And he doesn't have to be mentioned. :P

Exactly. They are my favorite on-screen couple ever, but for goodness' sake, even most of their movies weren't made with each other, and are still good. I'd still love to see them back together in a movie though, and more than a KHNH cameo.

Tacky...or AMAZING?! Lol. I guess I like tacky things then, eh?

Ecstatic abound! :)

I agree. But first we have to all rejoice at the fact that she's back! :D

Hmm... okay.... I've seen it and OH.MY.GOD! I was totally distracted by Hrithik's unearthy muscles and open vest! *rofl*... Anyway... WHAT A shameless RIP-OFF!! LOL

Doesn't it look terrible? In that delicious "so bad it's good" way. And when the camera fixates on the bulging muscles? ROFL. Also, first Indian Superhero? I bet this thing will be a hit and I bet it will suck and I bet I'll have a grea time watching this.

But Carrie Ann Moss still wants her coat back.

I so need to get RDB on DVD as soon as bloody humanly possible (read: when I get the money). It was just really that good. It also feels like a film I could show to anyone, even a non-fan or someone who hasn't seen any Indian films. So a worthy purchase all around.

Yay, more Fanaa excitement. I can hardly contain myself. And yes, SRK-Kajol über alles, but as far as I know, Aamir-Kajol is looking just as fabulous and hot and mesmerizing on-screen.

re: Ishq, I think one of my favourite scenes (out of the ones that are somewhat good and not all that laughable) in the whole film is the one where they've both been given the boot and then Aamir tells Kajol that of course he will not abandon her, why would a brother abandon a sister (or something along these lines). The potential was so there.

They don't really cross each other's turf that much.
So true. They seem quite happy starring in the films offered to them, making each role their own and usually coming out on top. Why one should be compared to the other, I don't understand. No point.

Oh yes. I started (re)watching it yesterday, and Husband actually ended up really enjoying it. It's such a brilliant movie, funny and sad and real all at once.

Aamir-Kajol is looking just as fabulous and hot and mesmerizing on-screen.

Exactly. Can't wait to see them. Eeeeee!

the one where they've both been given the boot and then Aamir tells Kajol that of course he will not abandon her, why would a brother abandon a sister (or something along these lines). The potential was so there.

Oh yes. Actually, their SOs in that movie were so awful, I kept wanting them to ditch them and run off together (especially Juhi. I adore her in every other movie I've ever seen her, but I wanted to strangle her there).

Btw, I wonder if it's true that Fanaa's tag is 'Destroyed by Love?' While I am all for angst, I keep wondering if that means either Kads or Aamir will buy it. I can't see Kads dying (young innocent blind girl caught in the middle of...whatever), but if Aamir buys it, he'd be 3 for 3 in his recent movies. :P

Why one should be compared to the other, I don't understand. No point.

Rabid Fans? Like to think their fave is the tops? No idea.

Juhi was an incredibly spoiled, awful brat in this movie. I liked some of the Juhi/Aamir scenes (those two should make a movie together, even in their 40's they'd be the cutest) but overall her character sucked. And Ajay's character was just ODD.

Yeah, I've been worrying over the "destruction" thing. Because I knew "Fanaa" translated into destruction way early when I found out about the film but back then I just thought, "Ooh, dark." and didn't consider it. Now I'm just running through alternatives in my head (especially trying to think all the people Aamir could kill in the movie). Like holy crap, could it be an unhappy ending? From YRF? I suppose it's perfectly possible. But likely? No.

I saw Rang de Basanti this evening and it was amazing. I was absoltely in love with the film from all angles.

One different thing about seeing this was that several people came up to me and my friends in the interval and asked us what we thought of it and why we'd picked that particular film to see. That's never happened before at that cinema. And it meant I missed the previews after the interval.

Oh, I am so glad you liked it.

The one time people asked me in a BW theater why I picked a particular movie, was "Taj Mahal."
