I am feeling a bit under the weather today, so as a cure, I decided to have a little Bollywood fest. Specifially, a Hrithik Roshan fest, as ogling him always makes me feel better.

I am actually skipping his best and best acted (IMO) movie, Fiza because there is nothing as depressing as that flick. It's all about a Muslim family destroyed by riots. When he is begging his sister to shoot him at the end as the best possible ending for him, and she does, and she is right? Not what you need to cheer you up when you are sick. I am also skipping Kabhi Khushi Kabie Gham which is fun and a huge hit because I've seen it way too many times and it's also 700 hours long.

But some of the other ones are just what the doctor ordered. I own every Hrithik movie except Lakshya and Misson Kashmir (the latter of which I do want to get sometime), which, if you've seen Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon and Na Tum Jaano Na Hum and AMALL, you'd realize the full extent of how embarassing that is. Yes. Ahem.

So, my movie choice? Mujhe Dosti Karoge? I know some people don't care for it, but I adore it. It's got killer music, melodrama, angst, love triangles, happy ending, and 360 degree spinning shots.

The plot is simple: Tina (Kareena Kapoor) and Pooja (Rani Mukherjee) are bestest bestest friends. When they were kids, they were also friends with Raj (Hrithik) who moved away with his parents to London. He wanted Tina to write to him but Tina had no interest after a bit so Pooja continued the correspondence in her name (yeah, yeah, it's Bollywood). Well, now they are all grown-up and Raj is coming back in part to meet the Tina he adores from the letters. Tina agrees to help Pooja out of this embarassing predicament by saying she did write all the stuff and Raj embarks on a fun flirtation with her. Problems? Pooja is in love with Raj herself, and Raj fnds himself irresistably drawn to her as well. They finally straighten everything out and go back home to tell their families only to find out that Tina's Dad died and Raj's family has arranged for Tina and Raj to get married. Raj wants to tell the families the true state of affairs, but Pooja being a dysfunctional weirdo a good and guilty friend wants Raj to marry Tina anyway: she has no one left, and families promised after all. Raj, who is understandably enraged by this, promises Pooja that he will only marry Tina on the day she marries someone else. A lot of fun angst follows. Fave scene? Knock on the door of Pooja's room and she calls out happily "Rohan!" (the alternative guy she takes up with after Raj), and it's Raj bringing her back her sweater and he just stares at her and goes "Raj." And then there is angsty staring and he repeats it. Heee. What with the angst and jealousy, yeah baby!

Actually, the favorite thing in the whole movie is the 7 minute long medley, where (during an engagement party) the characters perform some bits from very appropriate and very famous songs. The most surreal and brilliant moment comes when Hrithik bursts into "Kaho Naa Pyar Hai," the title song from the movie that catapulted him to stardom and started a mad Hrithik frenzy. Hrithik imitating himself. Surreal.

I must say, much as I enjoy the HEA, I would have loved to see a movie where they married their respective forced choices and then inevitably succumbed to their passion and had a secret, family-destroying, messed-up affair. Oh well.
