Largely BSG-centric
Mar. 13th, 2006 11:55 amDoes anyone else have it as a criteria for a purse you are going to take anywhere for a length of time that a book must fit into it? And you know that certain of your purses will fit small paperbacks and the other larger books. No? Just me then? Move along, nothing to see here...
Shantaram continues to be unputdownable. I am addicted to that book. I don't know if I like the characters, but they are fascinating.
Everyone simply must head over to
queenofthorns's lj and read the Lee/Noodles fic located here. It's the best thing ever.
Re: Season Finale. I know some people have been complaining about the time jump. But as for me, it doesn't bother me at all.
Because, otherwise the alternatives are:
a. They never settle. They just keep on travelling. This is a format with no variation that will get dull. Also, they set up all their ducks towards the settlement.
b. They settle and we see this year during a season. A whole season in the wetness of Vancouver? No way. Those Caprica segments were my least favorites.
c. They settle and then Cylons attack really quickly. Well, no Vancouver much, but also the fleet will be all in readiness etc etc. Situation won't be as dire.
So the time jump works for me. I guess I am easy. Plus, I don't have to see a year of Anders. Or Lee steadily getting fatter.

Date: 2006-03-13 05:02 pm (UTC)Haha! When I buy purses, unless they have to be fashionably small for some fancy-dress reason, I almost always calculate what will fit inside - a book is requisite. :) If I'm traveling, my bag must always be able to fit a book, water bottle, iPod and other small necessaries. I normally only make certain it will fit a paperback, but I do have bags designated as the "hardcover carriers." ;) I rarely go anywhere without a book & iPod.

Date: 2006-03-13 05:21 pm (UTC)I have a number of nice, small purses which I use if I go for a walk with someone (ergo no books) or if I have a backpack or whatever. But generally, at least a small paperback must fit.
This week's purse must hold "Shantaram" however, which is an iffier proposition as it's a monster of a book...

Date: 2006-03-13 05:09 pm (UTC)LOL! Not before, but yes, any purse I buy in the future is going to have to meet that standard. My current everyday purse will just barely squeeze in a moderate-sized paperback (in addition to the other crap in there, which is not a lot), and it's just not cutting it; half the time the purse won't close. From now on at the very least any bag I carry is going to have to be able to comfortably hold a moderate-size paperback in addition to all the other junk I need. ;)

I am so glad to know I am not the only one...
All those midget-sized purses are pretty but kinda useless...

Date: 2006-03-13 06:27 pm (UTC)... I try not to carry hardcovers because my back does not appreciate it ;) but if I have to carry a hard cover book I have this huge hobo bag so I can carry the book, my ipod, ma chapstick, a little notepad & ballpoing, lipgloss, ... well, it's more like a truck with and adjustable strap than a purse :P

Date: 2006-03-13 06:28 pm (UTC)LOL.
It's quite tragic really, that the really usable purses and the small elegant ones are kinda mutually exclusive. I think someone should create some time/space continuum rip to fix this.

And I loved the BSG final. Change is good, and I don't think they'll be stuck on that planet for long. Plus I like Anders :-P~~~ (but you'll probably win, because I imagine he's going to die :-().

Date: 2006-03-13 08:19 pm (UTC)Re: BSG. Agreed. And I hope off the planet they go. Anders is someone I'd like fine in RL but in BSG I can't wait for him to keel over...

Date: 2006-03-13 06:55 pm (UTC)Definitely agree on book-fitting thing. You know, i don't even have much time to read when i go on a train (15 minutes max) but i often carry a book, WHY? because i feel better this way ;)

Date: 2006-03-13 08:18 pm (UTC)Me too. It's this deep-seated "but you never know when you might want one" thing.

Date: 2006-03-13 09:23 pm (UTC)Um, are their people for whom the above ISN'T a significant criterion when it comes to purse-buying? Good heavens. What on earth do they do when they get bored if they don't have a book in their purse?
Re: the time jump, agreed. Also, I've heard that there will be flashbacks to important things that occurred during the missing year, so we'll get the highlights.

Date: 2006-03-13 09:33 pm (UTC)I've heard that also and I am very excited about it. A few flashbacks are pretty necessary, I'd imagine.
Re: purses. I own a number of pretty, useless purses that I almost never take out because books won't fit :)

Date: 2006-03-13 11:01 pm (UTC)Oh yes, that a major deciding factor when I buy a new purse. My current purse is of a really really good size, since it can hold a normal-sized hardcover (not one of the fantasy doorstoppers) and still doesn't look at all bulky.

Date: 2006-03-14 03:29 am (UTC)The problem with my book-purse combo is that most books I have and read are bigger than that small paperbag size with always makes it a bit odd.

Date: 2006-03-14 03:19 am (UTC)This is mandatory for me--trade paperback is as small as I'll go. You never know when you'll have a reading emergency.

Date: 2006-03-14 07:57 am (UTC)I do sometimes have to borrow my mother's smaller bags for something that doens't look like a massive sack in case of formal occasions.
I liked the time jump in BSG. I mean, at first I was all, WTF??? but it was a good device and I think the writers got away with it. Also, I've got mad Chief love now. :D
