Thoughts on Veronica Mars, 2.04
Oct. 19th, 2005 10:58 pmDidn't think it was as good as last week's but still fun.
The stuff I found by far the most interesting in this ep was the Duncan-Veronica interactions. Because in a way, Veronica is reaping karma for first season: she did seem to be very unforthright with either Leo or Logan in S1. She'd not explain until pushed and tended to bail and cover up. Well, now she is with a guy who's perfected this to an art. Duncan has a wall, and it's not one she can scale. Every time she tries to talk at all, he shuts down. He won't let her in at all.
That relationship is severely doomed in the long run if they don't discuss anything of importance: she has no idea Duncan's been visiting Meg. Every freaking day. And that Meg's sister feels close enough to him to come for help. And when she does try to talk to him, he completely evades. A relationship where one of the parties is completely unwilling to get emotionally close and to share? Forget it. When he blows up at her about not knowing Meg was important to him? Shut up, Duncan. How could she, when you spend all your time pretending to her you didn't care.
And forget the part about wanting her to hide in the bedroom as if he is ashamed of her (after they seem to have failed to have sex. He is asleep, she is wearing an unsexy tee, typing. People who are married for 30 years have more passion). I really wonder what's on Meg's computer that's shocking enough to have her parents want to pull the plug if they found out. Damn Veronica's moral scruples. :)
I loved the scene with Logan and the progress of the mystery (everyone and their brother was at the party, so it could have been anyone who called, Yay!). I just realized that if Veronica realizes she wants him in the future, she will really have to work for it. He has managed to detach and she largely can't get to him any more (though you do see cracks in the flip facade a bit). He has distanced himself, and really got a spine, and won't let her close enough to hurt him again. Well, I hope he will, eventually, as that scene had more chemistry than all of Duncan/Veronica's frustrating, everything-is-facade interactions.
MotW: quite funny, but Julie really got on my nerves. That Scottish guy had a lucky escape from the psycho.
So, Alicia's "mystery" involved Wallace's father. No surprise. And she lied to Keith. Bad, bad, bad. Poor Keith's luck isn't any better than it was with Lianne, it appears.
They seem to be setting up a Veronica-Jackie confrontation. Whatever. Yawn.
And Weevil is back. Yay!
